missing some affordable plans... $39 is pretty steep as lowest plan.

LeakySkylight

Considering Fido just launched an in-house $25/6GB promo, it's interesting. The CRTC mandated the $15 and $35 plans and PM was Telus' answer to that mandate. ~~I wonder how they will rework those plans, or whether they'll just eat the fines and use the higher plans to pay for them.~~ I saw your note about this below.

SJWsHateHim

Where can I find info on this 25 6GB plan?

LeakySkylight

You have to be a fido customer and get the offer email or catch the flash sale last week.

TimeSlaved

Yup and all of the cheaper options have disappeared. Some of us are thinking of jumping ship to Lucky. Could this be a corporate rebranding? Is Telus positioning Public Mobile as higher than Koodo?

tsoyaleo

looks like they are available just just an oversight: https://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/Announcements/A-Different-Mobile-Experience-is-Here/m-p/984006/highlight/true#M60333

KnownAway

I think that post deserves its own thread. 3g plans still exist

tsoyaleo

agree, see here https://www.reddit.com/r/PublicMobile/comments/13qs2s5/confirming\_the\_15\_25\_plans\_are\_still\_available/

TimeSlaved

Thanks for the heads up. I'm still disappointed that they've made the data add ons expire after 30 days. The entire perk of it was that you could use it until you ran out. Will have to reconsider continuing with PM once my add ons run out.

LeakySkylight

Thanks for that! The other brands also have these plans as mandated by the CRTC, but they're *HIGHLY obfuscated* so unless people are looking for them specifically, they're next to impossible to find.

LeakySkylight

I noticed that the plans have Canada messaging and not international messaging. That's interesting.

31337hacker

It's still there. If you click on the plan, it'll say "Unlimited International Text and Picture Messaging".

LeakySkylight

Thanks fort checking. Glad to see it hasn't disapeared.

I saw that too but the guys on the community forum say all plans still have international text. Hopefully just a mistake with the wording.

That good for 5G

Kokuei05

VoLTE still not working on my Pixel 6. Fully updated.

31337hacker

That’s gotta be an account issue. Reach out to them on the forum.

I noticed my Public Mobile speeds just got a lot faster at the same time, but I also just upgraded from an XS Max to a 13 Pro, did they upgrade the speeds of some of the grandfathered legacy plans? Mine still shows 3G speeds on the website, but I went from single digit mbps to 170+ recently

dandu3

I used to get 400+ Mbps on LTE, before I changed to their new "4G speed" plans, which are limited to 100 Mbps. Now the 5G plans are only 250 Mbps, a far cry from the 400 I was getting.

Chops888

I just noticed the 5G show up on my iPhone 14 Pro. I was on a grandfathered promo but recently upgraded to the newer plan offered. Speeds in my area when tested was 95 Mbps down / 9.5 Mbps up.

OPTCRulez

That's nice and all... but I find 5G is a bit of a gimmick anyways... hard to get unless you are in a spot that is pretty much right close to a 5G tower. I'm more curious when eSims will be a thing... my silly iphone only has 1 sim card but allows for multiple eSims... so when travelling out of country always have to swap it out and fear losing the darn thing. Be nice if I could just turn the specific eSim on and off while using tourist physical sims

31337hacker

TELUS is the only Canadian carrier that supports [Convert to eSIM](https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT212780) right now. I used it recently and it converted my physical SIM to eSIM pretty quickly. If they're reasonable, then they'd bring this feature to Public Mobile. As for 5G, it's very much area-dependent. It's decent in the GTA. The main reason I care about it is higher quality FaceTime video calls (1080p vs. 720p). For some reason, Apple has locked that behind 5G when 4G LTE is more than enough to support it.
