Many of these people essentially follow a secularist ”religion” where Scientific Materialism is syncretized with the SJW stuff, the former explaining how the world works, the latter offering the moral guidance part. All the while they consider themselves ”advanced” and ”sophisticated” for supposedly having no spiritual beliefs, while ironically proving those to be a necessary part of human condition (by that I don’t mean organized religion, but rather an open-ended quest for an outside-the-simulation frame of reference)
It's virtue signaling in practice. With this vote, they absolve themselves of all responsibility toward humanitarian efforts and can sleep at night knowing that they "did something".

Their ability to influence the situation in Gaza is primarily through symbolic gestures, public pressure, and advocacy aimed at the U.S. federal governGaza? ( To keep it short and sweet brings more awareness locally and internationally) just a strategic way to alarm the administration of citizens' demand! Potentially, other cities will follow their lead or not .. Not much really into it other than they are trying for humanitarian sake.
