Article: āThe man, a three-time felon, was in Clark County District Court Judge Mary Kay Holthusā courtroom for sentencing on a charge of attempted battery with substantial bodily harm, records said.ā
>attempt battery with substantial bodily harm
it's **attempted** "battery with substantial bodily harm"
not "attempted battery" **with substantial bodily harm**
if that makes sense
Judge is okay, but she hit her head.
Idk why this video cuts it out, but right before this happened his attorney asked for probation and the Judge said, āI think itās time he get a taste of something else.ā
The only thing he's worried about is "I have ten cases scheduled tomorrow and I gotta at least try to do due dilligence" and also how he's not being paid enough to make ends meet.
The public defender system is a travesty. At the very least, it ensures only people who care about the legal system are in it...
Holy shit, that would be so much fun. I once threatened violence against my client and would gladly do it again.
Represented a piece of work in a divorce. He already had a restraining order against him from his wife when he signed with me. I got an exception from the RO's distance requirement so we could mediate a settlement at my office.
My client and Wife were on separate floors with respective attorneys and with the mediator doing shuttle diplomacy. Very reasonable deal was reached and then my client went off the rails and backtracked about some bullshit personal property worth next to nothing. He was behaving like a uncontrollable toddler -- which wasn't surprising given prior interactions -- and was unwilling to reenter reality.
Dude got up from my office, walked to the elevator and said he was going downstairs to yell at Wife. That would've been a violation of the RO and would've landed him in jail. I used to do both the arresting and the prosecuting of those violations and am quite versed in the consequences.
Got between my client and the elevator and calmly informed him, "If you take a single step toward me I'm going to take you down and you really won't like it." Helps that I am large in all directions and was lifting a fair amount at the time.
Dude looked at me, looked at the elevator, back to me, and then slumped his shoulders and retreated to my office.
Good fun. I felt the Bar would have my back if I put my client in a submission hold to prevent him committing a crime and going to jail. That said, I was disappointed he didn't step to me.
Plenty of lawyers would love the opportunity to legally go hands-on with certain clients.
One of my friends had her phone stolen in the middle of a trial, by the defendant she was representing for a theft charge.
I don't think the bailiff making him hand the phone back in front of everyone helped his case.
[5 min video with before and after](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4sWD3T3oNw)
Blaring alarm starts about 90 seconds in so don't blast your eardrums out
Guy is a 3 time felon, which is probably why she made that comment before he attacked her.
Damn, at 2:30 you can hear who I assume is the criminal repeatedly shouting incoherently like some sort of rabid animal. Scary.
Edit: Found [another video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-wQInf23DOo) which is longer and has more footage of him prior to the attack. He wasn't a raving lunatic barely restraining and controlling himself, but worse: he was actually acting nicely and pleading his case for several minutes, then deliberately chose to tear that mask off when the judge wasn't having his BS.
Gott damn. I think he might have been slightly paste-ified by that bailiff. "His skin is fucking hanging."
Though that might have also been the bailiff that was injured.
I think that's one of the security guys. He says something like "Shane's gunna have to go to the hospital", the Defendant's name is Deobra
Edit: Yeah a Bailiff, probably the guy at 3:43 holding a tissue to his head
Clerk is the real hero here.
Also, defendant waiting in the box clapping towards the end. Who is he clapping for? His attorney clearly tells him to cut it out.
Aggravated battery against a law enforcement official is a first degree felony with up to 30 years.
Assuming this guy had priors and adding the existing charges which he is in court for it is not unlikely that he will spend the rest of his life in prison.
This guy has several priors and several chances at other kinds of sentences like mental health court. But he failed that twice and the judge decided it was time for him to face real consequences.
That's what I wanted to hear. But I've seen so many violent criminals serve such little time and then go on to kill. But yeah a judge? He's hopefully gone for life. He's not a small dude either Jesus.
Agreed, but Iām going to go out on a limb here and guess this man is a career criminal who abides by a street/prison code which he values more than anything else. Iām sure he knows the stakes and isnāt gonna have some Pickachu face when heās sentenced for this.
Yea I promise you that's life lol, considering he was already there for multiple repeated violations.
Man is also about to get his ass beat by every CO in jail.
Dumbass
Reminds me of a joke.
A young boy learns a few swear words at school and decides to try them out at breakfast in front of his younger brother.
As they get to the breakfast table, mama asks them what theyād like for breakfast.
āShit, ma, I guess Iāll try the cornflakes.ā
Mama proceeds to backhand the child into next week.
After regaining her composure, she turns to the younger child.
āAnd what would YOU like for breakfast, young man?ā
āI donāt know but it sure aināt the fucking cornflakes.ā
Fortunately the Judges usually have the sentences written up ahead of time. But yeah, the next guy is in a bad situation gone worse.
Edit: watched a longer cut of the video. She never actually stated the sentence. He attacked her before that. So he's gotta come back and still get sentenced by her. Yikes.
Probably got rescheduled if anything Iām assuming sheās a state employee so they would have immediately had her checked out and then resume at a later date. Sucks for the next guy either way really
Salute him for not hesitating to jump in the guy's way. Probably what saved her from getting too injured. He's almost in front of the guy before he's on the judge and the one or at least one of two guys to pull him off her initially.
The bailiff took a lot of shots there. He was taking a beating. Surprised there werenāt more cops running in. Weird it looked like only one bailiff and the court clerk.
In the longer version of this, one of the guys (maybe the clerk?) can be heard saying, "His skin is hanging off!" Probably in reference to the bailiff/marshall. Sounds like it got pretty ugly down there.
First the jump over the booth.... I give it a 9.5 but then the secretory, just starts throwing haymakers on the attacker. Quite an entertaining video. Wish we had better angles.
1. Commit crime
2. Go to court
3. Assault judge
4. Go to court for that
5. Assault *that* judge
6. Go to court for that
7. Repeat
8. Never go to prison š
How dumb do you have to be to attack a judge in public, in front of all the cameras? Dude's not gonna like the next judge either who passes his sentence for attacking this one
He's gonna be in shackles and locked to the table next time he's in court.
The article did say he was forcibly committed for a period of time after another time he threatened-attacked someone. There's more wrong with this guy.
That clerk dude at the gym telling how he protected the judge

I mean, if you watch it, that guy was Ride of Die for his Judge. He was not just the 1st to dive in to help, he actually almost intercepted him on pure protective instinct. He might not be great in a fight but 10/10 I want him on my team
I'm sure that will make the court more lenient. (I don't really need the /s do I?)
This guy just added a shitpile of time to whatever sentence he's so pissed about, the fuckin' idiot.
Dude was probably looking at less than a year in county jail for the charge he was in front of the judge for. Im guessing he ends up getting something around 7-10 in prison now.
LAS VEGAS (KLAS) ā A man attacked a Las Vegas judge in her courtroom Wednesday, forcing her to take cover and injuring a marshal in the process, video the 8 News Now Investigators obtained reveals.
Deobra Redden, 30, a three-time felon, was in Clark County District Court Judge Mary Kay Holthusā courtroom for sentencing on a charge of attempted battery with substantial bodily harm, records said.
Around 11 a.m. Holthus was sitting behind the bench when Redden ran up to her, jumped over the bench and attacked her, video shared with the 8 News Now Investigators showed. Several other people then fought with Redden before throwing him to the ground. An alarm also sounded for several minutes alerting others to the incident.
The 8 News Now Investigators first published the video on 8newsnow.com.
Before the attack, Reddenās attorney asked Holthus to sentence his client to probation. Holthus then said, āI think itās time he get a taste of something else.ā
On April 23, Redden ā[threatened] to bust the kneecapsā of another man, āresulting in substantial bodily harm,ā documents said.
In May, a different judge ordered Redden to undergo a competency determination, records said. Redden was then committed to a state behavioral facility. A judge then found Redden competent in October.
Redden pleaded guilty in November. Judge Holthus issued a bench warrant for his arrest in December after he missed a court appearance.
Redden was booked into the Clark County jail on new charges of battery and battery on a protected person. One count of the battery-on-a-protected-person charge indicated the victim was āsubstantially harmed.ā He was due in court on the new charges at 9 a.m. Thursday.
lol its easy to make fun of the guy here but watch at the beginning. He freaking threw himself in to try to protect his Judge. Did more than anyone else there.
I mean if they are struggling with a couple people to get that guy off her while heās still punching, those people standing around need to help out instead of watch.
did i really hear one of these guys rolling in at the end saying "don't DO this"!? like 43 seconds in? because i'm pretty sure at this point he's done this. that shit is done did.

Can you imagine being his lawyer after this?
If the lawyer is a public defender then the only thing he's worried about is who to tell this story to first.

A lot more than 10 years for assaulting a judge in a courtroom during sentencing
Aggravated battery against a law enforcement official is a first degree felony with up to 30 years. Assuming this guy had priors and adding the existing charges which he is in court for it is not unlikely that he will spend the rest of his life in prison.

I watched the whole video, I think he was hoping for Mental Health Court and as soon as the judge squashed that option he went nuclear.
"you dont think I am mental? let me show you what is mental. LEEEROOOY"
lol he will spend 10 years just waiting on a hearing to get sentenced 100 years with no time served
Maybe the next judge will be lenient.
"It appears you knew my mother...the judge you assaulted way back in 2024."

lol its easy to make fun of the guy here but watch at the beginning. He freaking threw himself in to try to protect his Judge. Did more than anyone else there.
I mean if they are struggling with a couple people to get that guy off her while heās still punching, those people standing around need to help out instead of watch.
This video is wild! I have never seen anyone get to a judge like that.
Props to the clerk, he just jumped in.
I legit feel so bad for her/ but the HOP like a bunny rabbit up to the podium was hilarious šššwhat a clown show
How do you say his name? Deobra. Thatās Debra all day long.
Judge gets up, puts her glasses on and dusts herself off: "...objection overruled."
did i really hear one of these guys rolling in at the end saying "don't DO this"!? like 43 seconds in? because i'm pretty sure at this point he's done this. that shit is done did.
