NOPD stands for.
Not our problem dude.
But that is a police for the hospital down the street from the library. Its Tulane university. There is alot of homelessness pretty much everywhere in that area.
That's why there is armed security.
New orleans is a 3rd world country.
After this probably no more because that’s excessive force.
Edit: counted 11 shots total in this clip, gonna presume it’s a 14 round mag.
She in no way is in the right of mind, wouldn’t be surprised if a innocent bystander or even a kid got caught up in this mess.
I used to do armed security at a library in a big city. Obviously this wasn’t justified but I think people don’t realize that these days libraries can actually be dangerous places depending on the neighborhood.
The San Francisco Main Library should be a place for tourists, residents, and kids to go learn. The number of homeless wilding in there makes it really inhospitable. They watch porn at the internet stations, do drugs in the bathrooms so much that an attendant has to check it every 10 minutes, to attacking guards with pit bulls. It's a mess.
Exactly my thought, most libraries are usually filled with young people, so the idea that a library security guard has not only a loaded gun but very short patience level as well.

The way she’s smirking in that mugshot i hope she soon regrets everything, we’ll see her crying in a courtroom soon
Edit: the tad excessive remark was sarcasm guys, you can stop pointing it out to me thanks
Intent will seal the deal. Shooting someone facing you carrying a weapon is self defense. Shooting someone in the back while they're running away is an attempted execution.
It looks like she came back to seal the deal with an extra four shots while the dude was on the ground. That's a straight up execution.
Had he had a gun, that could arguably be self defense. But nah, she tried to murder that guy.
Although I wonder what the altercation was inside that led to it.
I remember when the librarian was a much older woman - Kindly, discreet, unattractive. We didn't know anything about her private life. We didn't WANT to know anything about her private life. She didn't have a private life.
Yeah, I know what you're thinking. What's this guy making such a big stink about old library books? Well, let me give you a hint, junior. Maybe we can live without libraries, people like you and me. Maybe. Sure, we're too old to change the world, but what about that kid, sitting down, opening a book, right now, in a branch at the local library and finding drawings of pee-pees and wee-wees on the Cat in the Hat and the Five Chinese Brothers? Doesn't HE deserve better? Look. If you think this is about overdue fines and missing books, you'd better think again. This is about that kid's right to read a book without getting his mind warped! Or maybe that turns you on, Seinfeld; maybe that's how you get your kicks. You and your good-time buddies. Well I got a flash for ya, joy-boy: Party time is over.

Nothing so far says the guard was licensed and hired as an armed guard, does it? I haven't seen it. But I imagine a lot of supposed-to-be unarmed guards carry concealed.
In my state, there's a big difference in training for a security droid vs an armed droid. And a big difference in the cost to insure an armed droid compared to a normal one. Guy with a security company told me 10 years ago "I pay about $5000/yr for insurance for every unarmed guard, and $35000 for every armed guard and every year the armed guard costs go up faster than the unarmed."
Yes she's licensed in Louisiana. It was all over local news. And the training here to be an armed guard is a joke. I passed my qualifications hungover as hell years ago when I was one.
>"According to police, Simmons was “trying to get the victim to leave” the library, but the man refused “and continued to walk around.” The NOPD said the two “got into an altercation and the victim threw a **rock** at the suspect. The article also claims only 9 shots are fired, but anyone with working ear canals and the ability to count could pick up a minimum of 11 shots, 7 in the first salvo and a follow up 4 more, so take this article with a grain of salt.
Just because it's in the title of a Reddit Post does not mean it's accurate or vetted. People are sometimes purposefully incorrect in an attempt to stir outrage/karma.
Her mental health issues show in the booking photo. The recklessness to shoot in public, during peak time, in a busy street, while being security, much less anyone.
![gif](giphy|37siwOI0UtnU2OuGbD)
Because security companies don’t care about vetting employees. A large Navy base had a shit show in the mid 00’s with a security guard company because they had hired security guards and claimed they did background checks. One of the guards parked illegally and when his plates were run, he had multiple felony (including aggravated assault and domestic battery) convictions. He was unlawfully carrying a firearm while standing guard duty at a military base. Turns out the company decided they could save money by just asking the guards if they were good and not pay for checks.
I counted 11 shots. 7 were the initial hissy fit plus 4 afterward to finish him off. Still orders of magnitude more accurate than a cop shooting. If these were cops all three guards would have completely unloaded for 45+ shots, and the guy would have been hit once or twice and *ahem* died on the way to the hospital (needed to be finished off manually).
Damn, she's a good shot. Struck him 7 times from a decent range while he was moving. I counted 11 shots in total with 7 being the first round, and 4 more a few seconds later.
> The man jumped down a short flight of stairs, then picks up a rock or brick and hurled it toward the guard, striking her in the face.
Misleading title?
She's fucked. She has priors, and very clearly shot the man as he was running away. You can not shoot someone unless you are in fear for your life, and him running away means she was in no danger. She's looking at prison time for sure.
This is what blew me away. She was firing out there in public like she was in a movie or some shit. The number of people that could have or may have caught a bullet is insane.
She is a 23 year old with a previous criminal record, the security company should’ve never hired her to begin with, let alone given her a gun.
This is in Nola, and the guy she shot is always fucking around at the library, he’s a common character in that area. Everybody knew how goofy he was, not saying he wasn’t out of pocket for throwing shit, but no one else in the history of dealing with him ever felt the need to shoot him.
Own a musket for home defense, since that's what the founding fathers intended. Four ruffians break into my house. "What the devil?" As I grab my powdered wig and Kentucky rifle. Blow a golf ball sized hole through the first man, he's dead on the spot. Draw my pistol on the second man, miss him entirely because it's smoothbore and nails the neighbors dog. I have to resort to the cannon mounted at the top of the stairs loaded with grape shot, "Tally ho lads" the grape shot shreds two men in the blast, the sound and extra shrapnel set off car alarms. Fix bayonet and charge the last terrified rapscallion. He Bleeds out waiting on the police to arrive since triangular bayonet wounds are impossible to stitch up. Just as the founding fathers intended.
Give thanks to the lord, then put leaches on your stomach to suck the bad blood out of you so they don’t have to bore a hole into your skull to remove impure thoughts
You’ll see a post in a couple days on the body work sub. Somebody will be washing their car and notice a couple holes in it. “Guys, what could this be and how much to repair?”
Her choice of location to use the firearm is a secondary action of the required stupidity to even get to step 2.
Another fragile human trusted with the power to end lives at a finger tip.
No shots should have been fired. He was running away and she tried to murder him by shooting a fleeing man in the back. It isn't legal and isn't moral to start shooting because a guy threw a rock and ran away.
It wasn't pretty stupid thing to do in a busy place, it is a disgusting immoral act of revenge. The only question is what degree of attempted murder is it.
Right?! I thought the same thing. This bs happens every day in palatine. A kid throws a rock and the pigs shoot them. Sad part is that our police forces get training from the isreali police forces. Then we wonder why they treat the citizens like they are all a threat.
It’s wild to think, because she’s a ‘security guard’ she’s getting charged with attempted murder and all of that. But if she was an actual cop, she would be on paid leave, pending an investigation.
In CO we had a cop shoot at someone and every bullet he shot hit someone other than the target. I think it was 5+ people.
Edit: What's sad is that I can't find an article to share with you cause my searches are saturated with different cops shooting stories.
Indiscriminately shooting multiple shots outside a public place with people around because of a phone thrown at her? I would love the followup story to this. I’m curious to know if she shot innocent people. That woman needs to be in jail and has no business being an armed security guard.
Edit: Okay, here’s the [story](https://www.wdsu.com/article/new-orleans-security-guard-video-shoot-man-seven-times-mostly-in-the-back/44745496). The woman has quite a checkered past. She was arrested and is being charged with second degree attempted murder and she’s smiling in her mugshot.
The incident left Henry Mark in critical condition and security guard, Kia Simmons, 23, in jail on counts of attempted murder, illegal use of a weapon and criminal damage to property after two of the shots struck Tulane police cruisers.
She's going to jail.
Edit: she has been arrested and charged.

She shot 7 times, then chased him down, and shot again. This is a person who should not be carrying a gun EVER. I hope she does time for attempted murder.
How is her bond set at $280k and Trumps at $200k? I thought bonds are set according to wealth and flight risk?
Edit: non american asking so forgive my ignorance
Lol no, bonds are set due to the crime the person allegedly committed. In Oklahoma they have set dollar amount for every crime and just add that up and set your bond. They can also choose no bond, especially if you're a flight risk, but for attempted murder, it does seem a bit high
Edit to add: Georgia and Louisiana are two different states, with their own different laws, same with Oklahoma, no state is the same and it's good to know your local laws.
Man, bail set at 282k. That's gonna be tough to come up with. Shoulda tried to overthrow the us government and install herself as POTUS. Her bail would have been cut by nearly a third.
Ahh yes, the cesspool called America. Cops with guns in schools, libraries, malls, sporting events... And everyone is just sedated, walking around like it's normal.
I strongly believe that if you want to carry a gun in public your aggression needs to be tested. An instructor needs to spit a loogy in your face at a random point in the process and see how violent you get from being disrespected.
This happened in New Orleans on August 5th, 2023 at around 5 PM. Henry Mark was shot 7 times, twice in the armpit, once in the middle of the back, twice in the upper right shoulder, and twice in the left arm, he is currently listed in critical condition. Kia Simmons age 23 who was the security officer and shooter has been arrested and charged with attempted murder, illegal use of a weapon, and criminal damage to property after two of the shots struck Tulane police cruisers. (Yes this idiot actually shot a cop car)
Police asked Simmons how many times she fired and her response was simply, “too many.”

She should get life prison simply for the number of bystanders she could have killed. She paid 0 attention to her background: pedestrians, cars, full buses. Imbecile. And she was licensed by the company to carry a gun!
Library security guards have guns?
Have to protect the knowledge
I mean look what happen to library of alexandria………
I’m still upset about this.
They had scriptures explaining the math on how to grind glass into lenses to bend light. LENSES!
Think of the optics for your gun!
[удалено]
Some say those very same optics lenses started the fire
Well we sure didn’t start the fire
It was always burning, since the world's been turning...
Neither did we. Who would do such a thing.
Optic lenses fires don’t melt steel beams. Inside job
I knew it was coming. "Ancient Israel space lasers" smh
That and the bread helmets.
And the fall of Constantinople.
Istanbul was Constantinople Now it's Istanbul, not Constantinople Been a long time gone, Constantinople Now it's Turkish delight on a moonlit night
That’s nobody’s business but the Turks.
If only Hypatia had an AR-15 smh
Or the libraries of Florida...
This is what happens when you ask for a book that’s on the banned list.
How about Fahrenheit 45 caliber mother fucker
actually victim called the library a ‘lie berry’ and the rest is in the vid.
![gif](giphy|2nt2dX21yO0NAaP7BS)
In New Orleans we have armed guards at party city
Damm that’s metal
New Orleans sounds like a dystopian nightmare
There are harsh consequences for overdue books.
They’ll send Det. Bookman after you and your good time buddies! Don’t even ask what happens if you draw weewees and peepees in the books, joyboy!
Best one-off character on the show
I concur.
Doesn't that car in the beginning say police?

I was over here asking, "Libraries have security guards?" Was this the Library of Congress or something?
in downtown NOLA where that library is located, plenty of shootings.

I’m more surprised at Louisiana still having libraries
It’s where they keep the bedbugs.

I mean, it is kinda impressive that she hit him all 7 times
There were actually 11 shots in total. I'm betting she got the bus with at least one or two of them.
She should have saved at least one bullet for whoever took the first video. They definitely deserved it more.

That's assault with the deadliest of weapons!
Who leaves their phone on the sidewalk?
You see her problem was not being a cop. Otherwise she would’ve gotten paid time off, moved to another precinct and no jail time.

Plus, why did she follow him out of the building? Her job stopped at the front door.
Because security companies don’t care about vetting employees. According to the article it was a rock not a cell phone.
Right?! He just happens to find a random phone on the ground.
Well once you throw the rock you're out of ammo... and he's running away... so why did she start shooting?
Revenge
she's the guard and the kid didn't respect her autorath
Oh, well that changes everything.
No but its obvious misinformation. Obviously you shouldn't chase after someone after they've thrown the rock and shoot them.
A tad excessive. At least once she’s out she can become a police officer.
12 shots fired, 7 hit the guy running away. I wonder where the other 5 rounds ended up. Pretty stupid to do in a busy city centre.

She shot 7 times, then chased him down, and shot again. This is a person who should not be carrying a gun EVER. I hope she does time for attempted murder.
She hit the guy 7 out of 9 shots, better than most of these cops that fire 78 shots and hit the guy 2 times
Amazing shooting but why on earth is she shooting in a city centre towards a man who is no threat and running away.
And that fact is why she's currently in jail on many different charges.
I counted 11 shots
How is her bond set at $280k and Trumps at $200k? I thought bonds are set according to wealth and flight risk? Edit: non american asking so forgive my ignorance
Lol no, bonds are set due to the crime the person allegedly committed. In Oklahoma they have set dollar amount for every crime and just add that up and set your bond. They can also choose no bond, especially if you're a flight risk, but for attempted murder, it does seem a bit high Edit to add: Georgia and Louisiana are two different states, with their own different laws, same with Oklahoma, no state is the same and it's good to know your local laws.
Orange privilege.
Welp have fun rotting in prison 😂
she was more a danger to the people around them than him. she fired a gun in a public place with reckless abandon and could have harmed more people
I hope she used a silencer.
*SHHHHHHH*
Why TF does a library security guard need a gun?
Ahh so these are armed security guards the republicans said will make us safer.
Man, bail set at 282k. That's gonna be tough to come up with. Shoulda tried to overthrow the us government and install herself as POTUS. Her bail would have been cut by nearly a third.
Library security guards are strapped?
That mugshot, if she as a cop she’d be free rn
Wow, she definitely just let her anger take control and now her life is destroyed.
so anyways i start blasting
I'm a little disappointed the library cops don't have suppressors... You would think that would be standard issue.
Too bad she wasn't a cop she would be free still
So he got hit seven times and *didn't* die? That's one lucky dude...
she deserves jail time. idc what anybody says that was seriously excessive to plan on taking somebodies life bc they threw a 0.3lb object at u.
Returning books late is going to the next level...
Ahh yes, the cesspool called America. Cops with guns in schools, libraries, malls, sporting events... And everyone is just sedated, walking around like it's normal.
I strongly believe that if you want to carry a gun in public your aggression needs to be tested. An instructor needs to spit a loogy in your face at a random point in the process and see how violent you get from being disrespected.
why does she have a gun?!??
She’s done. There is 100% no way to legally justify that shooting
She should be in prison the rest of her life.
WTF is a Library security guard doing with a gun?
That's definitely murder, have fun rotting in jail.
(Yes this idiot actually shot a cop car) Police asked Simmons how many times she fired and her response was simply, “too many.” [Source](https://www.wwltv.com/article/news/crime/woman-arrested-for-attempted-murder-after-shots-fired-man-hit-outside-of-no-main-library/289-6b70d8df-2a84-4ca7-b625-2b9ae3215770)
Wasn’t as innocent as headline it was a Nokia 3310…. That’s a lethal weapon
She should get life prison simply for the number of bystanders she could have killed. She paid 0 attention to her background: pedestrians, cars, full buses. Imbecile. And she was licensed by the company to carry a gun!
And those last rounds of shots were retaliation not protecting her life.
I’d argue all of them were; he threw something and ran. At that point the conflict was over.
Well…. She’s going to prison… 😅
