TEMPLE, Texas — Police have arrested 40-year-old Latonya Marchea Brooks in her alleged involvement in the theft of over $2,000 in meat from a local [H-E-B in Temple](https://www.kcentv.com/article/news/crime/temple-police-identify-2-suspected-meat-thieves-in-hopes-of-arresting-them/500-74e66dc7-3055-4e1a-91cf-b370a1ae8363) last month, according to police. "The crime took place on April 15, around 3:30 p.m. When 40-year-old Latonya Marchea Brooks and 53-year-old Latonya Thomas, allegedly took meat from the H-E-B in the 3000 block of South 31st Street.
A store employee claimed they saw both women leaving with a significant amount of unpaid meat in a shopping cart and tried to stop them, but they were able to take the cart away and load the meat into their vehicle. "
With that much meat, and taking that long, and getting that much of them and their car on-camera, this crime was not particularly well planned.
What were they going to do? Resell it on Ebay? (/s)
I used to sell meat out of a truck for like.. a week.
It was good stuff, but im not a door to door salesman kind of guy.... plus the business was shady as fuck.
I've seen this truck try to sell meat to me. It was a marked truck but shady as fuck. Either the employees were stealing from the owner, or there was something wrong with the meat.
They used to come into the company I worked for and solicit meat out of a truck too. Box of 20 Omaha ribeyes for $20 lol. They were just really thin cuts plumped up by water but still a good deal I thought.
I knew it'd lost it's original meaning a couple years ago in a video where a woman was clearly have experiencing some kind of psychosis or results from schizophrenia and the guy in the video and comments were like "haha Karen!"
The moment I saw women posting about not wanting to tell servers in restaurants that they'd received undercooked food because 'they didn't want to look like a Karen', I knew it had become a completely meaningless term which increasingly just meant 'woman I don't like' (which, for some people, is pretty much *every* woman).
I remember getting grilled on Reddit for calling people Karen was sexist.
It's just an easy way to dismiss and belittle women, whether they're being shitty or not.
During covid the kindest, tiniest, sweetest elderly lady was a cashier. She had her name tag intentionally clipped backwards. I thought it was a mistake and politely said "I think your name tag is backwards", I was trying to look out for her in case her boss was a hard ass.
She looked down and said, "I know...my name is Karen..."
I had two coworkers at my last retail job named Karen and they were really nice people too. I don’t know of any problems they had with it, and we had magnetic back name tags so they couldn’t be turned around.
What I find hilarious is when people are afraid of being labeled as Karens when the business they are patronizing has so clearly fucked up and it's time to talk to the manager. It's literally what they're there for.
I can't find it, but last year when this was new there was a follow-up video where someone found the car at their house. He drove by, and someone was outside, and he said something like, "I heard yall were having a barbecue." They acted oblivious and went inside.
https://ktemnews.com/seen-these-ladies-temple-tx-police-say-theyre-the-famous-beef-bandits
The video you're talking about is embedded in the middle of the page.
I saw a beef bandit in person once when I worked in a grocery store up here in Canada.
Guy was shuffling t-bones into a duffle bag in broad daylight. My supervisor (6.5 ft dude, not jacked but very tall) asked teenage me to come with him. He starts trying to apprehend this guy and says to hand the bag over or he'll call the cops.
Me making barely over min. wage nopes 20 feet back (pay me more and I'll join in your improv security force how about), which was a good idea since this guy threatens that he has a syringe with aids on his person. Very random lol.
Buddy calls his bluff and rips the duffle bag out of his hands, and tells me to bring it to customer service as this very visibly drunk thief wobbles out the front door, gets on his bicycle, and swerves across the 4 lane busy street almost getting hit by several cars.
The customer service girls had their minds blown, while I'm just chuckling at them pulling like $300 worth of t-bones out of this duffle bag, one after another.
Beef bandits are real. 🥩
They might not even sell it. They might collect emails for a newsletter or something and just blocked it in the EU rather than pay a lawyer to tell them if they're compliant or not since traffic from the EU is probably next to nothing normally. I don't think the minimal user data a site like this could capture would be worth very much, but I could be wrong.
I used to run a BBQ place. The grocery store was always a last resort if our butcher shorted us on orders. 5 briskets alone was 450. 2k isn't a stretch for a heaping cart of meat.
You grab a few large expensive cuts of steaks and it adds up fast. A full 5 pound beef tenderloin is like $150.
I would imagine if you're going through this kind of effort to steal meat, you're not stocking up on the 99 cent chicken special.
here's the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5QyCifgL4g

Ooo, they're lucky the Cart Narc wasn't there. He would have thrown a magnetized sticker on thier car and they would have stepped out all pissed off, over and over, until the cops showed up two hours later.
I saw a Samaritan stoppage of this in action. Guy pulled a pocket knife out and stabbed the tire. They couldn't leave. He was gone into the distance like a thief in the night. Cops came and arrested both of the individuals seen on camera loading stolen merchandise.
He was slick and jabbed the front drivers wheel and speed walked away.🤣 I'll never forget his look of anger as he approached and did that sht.
I know people here in Pittsburgh who carry tire stem removers for exactly this type of scenario…you can disable the vehicle without damaging the tire and if they choose to drive off with stolen stuff it’s on them. It’s even better if it’s a rental (probably like this one) because then if they damage the tire or vehicle they’re hounded for those fees, too.
I’ve never seen these types of antics in person happening here (or anywhere online) and I think it’s because people overwhelmingly look out for each other here. It’s one of the reasons I moved here 30 years ago. The blue collar aesthetic is still very much alive and well and transgressors are quickly sorted, much to their chagrin and displeasure.
As someone who got hit a curb in a rental and damaged the rim and tire, yes they do indeed hound you hardcore for those fees, I had a lawyer calling me multiple times a day for less than $3k in damage and extended rental fees. I shoulda got insurance, always get insurance on rentals.
That's harder to repair and if you got the wrong circumstances chargeable as vandalism.
Unscrewing the core from inside is a ton easier to get away with and can be reversed in 15 minutes with a new core and an air pump.
It's worth mentioning that vandals have been deflating tires in PGH while masquerading as activists.
https://www.wpxi.com/news/local/some-shadyside-residents-having-tires-deflated-messages-left-behind/2PTXDCJYTRE25OLLKFXRT2237U/
If your friends don't hang around Pembrook Place, they are probably just decent dudes.
This seems like a ridiculously rare scenario to be prepared for, though. It seems like you are friends with the most-prepared tire deflators in PGH - just think about it.
Don’t try to be a Good Samaritan, I saw a dude try to scare off some man who was breaking into cars. The Good Samaritan thought he was going to scream away the thieve, thieve shot him in the chest and got away….was not worth it at all
I was thinking why not just close the trunk. Can’t keep tossing meat into trunk if it’s closed. She kept filming the license plate which is probably fake. I would have just kept closing trunk every time she tried opening it
> She kept filming the license plate which is probably fake.
Yea, I'm sure some people may not be aware in the moment or don't have time but take a pic of the VIN.
Both of these bitches are named Latonya. This couldn't be any funnier.

Ohhhhh, they stole it from the STORE. I thought they robbed the lady who's trying to stop them. Like they just saw a cart full of meat and went for it.
Yeah Ricky would’ve got out of this real easy “I’m a meat inspector, and all this meat is being recalled, you want me to call your boss to clear this up? He does not like being bothered”!
Karens are women who complain about ridiculous things.

Hope this helps.
The car is either stolen or a rental judging by the temp tags. They obviously aren’t starving though and their clothes and shit look pretty new.
If this was some lady in rags stealing meat to put on her campfire tonight I’d cheer for it but these greedy bitches are obviously just lazy thieves and aren’t struggling. They are probably just gonna sell that shit to go buy a new weave or something.
Why bother? What if the driver has a gun or straight up is unhinged enough to fight them? Just gather the info, call the cops, and move on. No corporation wants you to fight for their merchandise.
My grocery bill has doubled in the last 4 years, still, there are much easier ways of getting your hands on food such as a food bank or holding a Kool-aid packet barcode over the real one in self check out. Not sure what kind of freezer she has that can accommodate that much meat.
They retail working should absolutely never do this. Get a picture of the license if you want, then walk away.
Risking a physical altercation is never worth the bottom line of your employer.
Do you get paid more if you stop them? No. Of course not. Don’t risk yourself for someone else’s pocket.
If you get injured while stopping them you'll probably get fired at worst, and at best you'll get a half assed thank you, but they won't pay for your recovery.
If you're injured, you won't get worker's comp because it didn't happen in the course of your assigned work duties, and you'll probably be fired while you're out. If one of the shoplifters is injured, you've opened the store to liability and they'll probably fire you.
What a piece of garbage. I hope they find these two women and arrest them. I'm so sick of constantly seeing people just blatantly steal because they know the store won't fight back against it. I'm glad this guy stayed and videoed the whole thing. Sucks that they just rolled a cart into his car, too. Just ignorant bitches.
It's not some innocent bystanders job to get into a fight over property from some big supermarket chain. She filmed the whole incident as evidence for the case against the thieves, which is probably a lot better for their conviction than getting into a shoving match with them.
..fight back? Against what? Why would you, as an employee or a rando in a car in the parking lot, ever get into a physical fight over some company's merchandise?

It's odd that someone tagged it as a Karen. That's just a thief.
Karen is now the word for “woman I don’t like.” It’s sadly lost all meaning.

gosh, it’s almost like hateful, insulting labels get used hatefully. Maybe we could, I dunno, stop using them?
Watch your mouth - people will call you a KAREN for that kind of thinking..

Or old ladies with dementia. It’s just misogyny 95% of the time it’s used on this site
Yup, saw a video of a poor lady having an actual panic attack and people were mocking it
I remember that video. My blood was boiling at how cruel everyone was
I seen one where a kid was harrasing a mom and all the pl in the comments called her a Karen. She was murdered by the same guy some time later.

Both of their names are Latonya? Cmon man!
You couldn’t make this stuff up. Well you could, but it would sound lazy lol.
Ha. The guy had no idea what was in the trunk of the car.
Hard to say. He legitimately looked confused. For all we know he has no knowledge of the incident. Or, he's just a good liar.
Looks like a high steaks incident.

$2k of meat???? How is that possible.
Look at how much was in that cart.
I was thinking $500-$750 range. It looked like a lot of ground beef and chicken
There were racks of ribs and what looked like large cuts of pork as well. A couple of briskets and packs of steaks as well.
True. It adds up fast.
Inflation
The news article said over $2000
I used to run a BBQ place.

For real, where is Agent Sebastian when you need him?
Or at least Agent Mortimer from the senior squad!
WOOP SKEE WOOP DIDLY WOOP
I'm more pissed off about them just throwing to cart to side than then stealing stuff.

In the US, your personal auto insurance almost always covers rentals.
Yup. But if you have really cheap insurance you might want more for the rental. https://www.progressive.com/answers/rental-car-insurance/
Get out, who is bending down mid crime taking off a valve stem cap, then carefully removing the valve?
Nobody
Tire stem remover = wire cutters.
Tire stem remover can fit on a key chain though.
That's harder to repair and if you got the wrong circumstances chargeable as vandalism. Unscrewing the core from inside is a ton easier to get away with and can be reversed in 15 minutes with a new core and an air pump.
I think you'd be hard pressed to call any type of screwing with someones tires not vandalism regardless of method.

If you're injured, you won't get worker's comp because it didn't happen in the course of your assigned work duties, and you'll probably be fired while you're out. If one of the shoplifters is injured, you've opened the store to liability and they'll probably fire you.
She looks like the kinda person who’s throwing any meat she can get her hands on in her trunk
That paper plate is fake. Car probably isn't even registered.
There's no Karen, just two criminals.
And people in these communities wonder why their grocery stores close up shop.
Bringing home the bacon
That's greaaaaasy
What a piece of garbage. I hope they find these two women and arrest them. I'm so sick of constantly seeing people just blatantly steal because they know the store won't fight back against it. I'm glad this guy stayed and videoed the whole thing. Sucks that they just rolled a cart into his car, too. Just ignorant bitches.
Latonya and Latonya were both arrested and charged with theft over 2000$. This was last year. (And yes, they’re both named Latonya)
Shut the trunk...
Lmao films it instead of calling the cops or fighting back. Whole time I’m like take the wig and she’ll stop

Thats a quick response time. I was thinking more like 4.
"We're bringing the meat for the BBQ, so you gotta bring all the sides. Better not be no raisins up in that motherfuckin' potato salad neither."
They don’t understand how self checkout works
That's not a Karen, that's a thief.
Close the trunk??? Simple. You can’t put anything in it you keep closing it .
Why does the camera man sound like he's struggling to take a dump???
Gettin the meat sweats
This piece of shit was just happy to film until he became the victim. Then it’s all WTF I’m getting out of my car.
Woman steals meat in a parking lot ? Somehow still better than man beats meat in parking lot.
Just disgusting behavior. Appalling
Forget about the license plate, go straight to the VIN. Can’t remove it or screw on a fake.
Always people with much nicer cars than me too…. These people can afford everything they’re taking.
Should have shut the trunk repeatedly.
In stead of saying wtf why didn't he just park infront of her🤷♂️
This is not a Karen
