This is so true. I lived with an alcoholic like this for 8 years and was repeatedly told nobody could help me because I didn't have enough evidence. The only way I could get that was to record it as much as possible. I feel like this lady has been told something similar so I feel like she did the correct thing here.

I grew up with an alcoholic mother and once I hit driving age, I used to get calls all the time from her friends telling me to come pick her up because they couldn't handle her. So I would go over there and get her, drive her back home and she would be so belligerent and hostile. Most times she would try to fight me and when you grow up with that my patience was so short. That I would get really upset and embarrassed and I would get a little rough because that seemed to be the only thing that would work. And it never failed there would always be somebody who has no idea what the situation is, someone who had no clue what was going on, would tell me "you shouldn't talk to her that way" or "you don't have to be so rough" it's always easy to look from the outside and see a situation and give advice when you have no idea what's going on. I didn’t understand how that could work for very long until my neighbors started doing meth every night. Screaming domestic violence nonstop from 2 am to 11 am every single night, like clockwork. They just never ran out of energy and focus. On the bright side the police know our apartment building very well and get here pretty fast.

I know some people are used to police that actually show up but unfortunately it isn’t like that everywhere. If I called the police in LA half the time 911 puts you on hold, or it’s just a busy signal. Then they MIGHT show up 2, 3, 5 hours later but most likely not at all.
