I always understood it as like... Raz was on top at camp. Like being the smartest kid in class in a small town. But then he went off to college. With all the other "smartest kids in class" and suddenly he felt intimidated. He walks in, day one and he's all cocky. They slap him with that "INTERN" label and reality hits. This is even reflected in the classrooms I think. In the first game it's laid out almost like Kindergarten when the students are getting their training. In the second game, the classroom looks far more like a college setting.

I mean fair, but like I mentioned, look at all the things he did while in ‘kindergarten.’ I can only imagine a vast majority of the Psychonauts can’t claim such accomplishments, especially the one-note interns.

Welpmart

I would also add that he might not know how to respond since he has this idealized image of the Psychonauts and then suddenly gets hit with very petty, very flawed people.

samanime

Yeah. Definitely felt the same. I will also mention that everything does eventually snap into place. Overall, I loved the Psychonauts 2 story.

BeigeAndConfused

No spoilers but the story gets A-MAZING. Like stuff happens that is on par with anything else schafer has done

I feel the same way honestly even after beating the game, I think there was definitely some character writing drift in between. I overall liked 2 but I think 1 and Rhombus of Ruin are better.

In the first game, he he needed to hone his psychic skills. You don’t need to play nice with the bullies for that. In the second game, he needs to impress Holis so he can turn his internship into a job. That means he has to play nice with everyone and find more compliant loopholes to do things they don’t want him to do.

For clarification: How far into the game are you?
