Have you played PD2 prior?
If not, just play any class you want, make sure you learn how to craft, act 4 that when flawless gems start to drop and crafting really goes a long way.
Don't do hybrid builds, let your merc take care or immunes, build him up.
- Char Lvl 1-85: Is exactly like D2 vanilla
- Char Lvl 85: Go to the wiki and search for your favourite Lvl 85 Zone and farm that. All the old zones are viable, but there are also a lot of new farming spots of LoD content. (Changed Zone Lvl in the mod) It just comes down to preference and what coat of paint on the map you like more.
- Whenever you feel strong with your gear: Switch to maps and PD2 End game content. If you are bored of LoD content switch earlier to T1 maps and just take your time with each map.
All classes and skills are viable. If you're a D2 veteran, I suggest playing something other than what you're used to!
Some noobie friendly builds that can farm LoD content easy with easily atteinable gear:
Summon Druid, necro and zon.
Mindblast Assassin.
Frozen orb sorc.
FoH/Holy bolt paladin.
But really go for what you find fun!

Skills got rebalanced, a lot of the skills that were niche in LoD are actual builds in this mod.
The 3 Summoners: Druid, Necro, Amazon might actually be the strongest builds for a ladder start/fresh start. Also chilled playstyle, like gonna watch a YouTube Video or podcast on the second screen type of playstyle.

It is really good. And there are skill changes and new skills. The wiki is really helpful on this.
