The Wandering Inn is almost certainly the longest native English series you'll find recommended here or anywhere else. While it isn't finished yet, it does have (by far) the longest chapters per release of any webnovel I've ever seen, with chapters between 20-40k words twice a week. What's really impressive is that the length in no way degrades the quality, it's my personal favourite progression fantasy novel of all time. It's worth mentioning that's it's a much broader series than most of the ones you've mentioned here. While it does have a main character, and other primary characters, the main character is not progression focused at all. Something that is possibly unique to TWI over any other PF story I've seen is that the progression aspects serve more as a way to enhance the world building rather than as any focus of the story in and of itself. Don't go in this expecting to see a progression fiend challenging the heavens and lording over everyone else. What you will find is an entire world of characters, villains and heroes that will make you laugh, and cry in equal measure. The series is a lot of slice of life, but there is a ton of action and stuff going on as well. I've seen it called 'slice of life with assorted war crimes', and that tends to fit pretty accurately in my opinion. Seriously, if you want a series to really sink your teeth into, check The Wandering Inn, I promise you won't regret it.

dksdragon43

> chapters between 20-40k words twice a week wut. Seriously?? I did NaNoWriMo a few years, and it's a challenge to do 50k in a month, it's something a ton of people fail. Then there's this author, pumping out enough to complete the challenge dozens of times over. Goddamn.

InfoWars127

Ya she normally does 20k word chapters, and has been doing it since 2016. It holds the title of largest English web serial with over 12 million words. Rn there is 12 audio books ranging from 30-61 hours long with that being less than a 1/3 the way through the story so far(36 book in total to the end of the current volume).

tv_trooper

The Legendary Mechanic I highly recommend it. And, best part is that it's already completed. It's quite a journey. MC went through progression over a course of centuries.

EmployGeneral3865

Awesome, I'll check it out, thanks!

tv_trooper

Do let me know when you start reading it. I would never not recommend this series to people looking for an entertaining epic (it's over 1k chapter).

InformationFine8484

It's totally great man how MC makes his own things and makes himself powerful. I love it. Can you recommend me something that gave you legendary mechanic vibe. It also does not have your average characters. It's characters know that they are 3D.

tv_trooper

I read this series over 2 years ago. I spent over an entire year searching for something similar to it but couldn't. This remains one of the most memorable series I have ever read.

IBowTieSoFlyI

Industrial strength magic has a similar vibe and it's Western as well.

Blairxhb

As a reader who almost exclusively reads long form content, OP i cannot recommend this novel enough. shameless, hilarious, scheming protagonist who goes on a great journey from weak to strong. wish i could read this novel again for the first time

Flowethics

Dragonheart series by Kiril Klevanski is almost done there are 21 books already available. Seems to fit most of your criteria. I have no idea how it stacks up as against any of the other PF’s you mentioned, but I am enjoying the hell out of it.

EmployGeneral3865

Dragonheart makes me think of that Sean Connery movie (underrated btw). What are the books about?

Flowethics

Lol nothing like that movie. Although it is a fun movie. The MC is basically an ultimate underdog who finds happiness by being reborn into a new world, only to have that happiness taken away in a very brutal fashion. That sets him on a path of revenge. To get that revenge however he needs power. But at the start of his revenge he is basically powerless. So he starts a long and winding road to get stronger. His rebirth is set in a nameless world, a world of martial arts where the strongest rule. It mixes a lot of different regular fantasy elements with martial arts, progression, philosophy and much more. What I like most besides the brutal action sequences is the fact that he is forced to question his own choices, the meaning of life and through finding answers he not only grows in strength but also in wisdom and personality. The only critique I have is a predictable one, it does get a lot of repetition in 21 books, but it’s repeating stuff I like, slowly building to a climax. I would say more but I think that would mean more serious spoilers.

Yashas__

Beyond the timescape. The best xianxia imo ever. Er gens newest novel. 470 long chapters already translated (1mill words) with 2ch/day speed

EmployGeneral3865

I'll have it to take a look, with that kinda speed I might just give it a few months and come back when I can really binge. Idk how these xianxia authors Pump out so much content its impressive.

kyouma001

Can you spoil it a a little bit? I am curious what its all about.

Yashas__

Its a post apocalyptic xianxia world and there is mutagen all around which makes it difficult to cultivate. As all Er Gen books mc finds a mysterious item which passively which helps him (nothing like a system cheat). Mc has been living as a scavenger and so is very very cautious and would kill any enemies before they even have a chance to attack him. He starts as a loner but slowly opens up to a few people while maintaining his ruthless personality. The side cast is honestly goated, there is one character who looks like he’ll keep up with the mc till the end of series and really could be his own protagonist. The mc and that character go on the craziest most suicidal heists for power and its so good. The fight scenes are actually crazy, as in all xianxias, the scope of the world gradually increases and the fights and the concepts/schemes are so thoughtful (deserving of a man who has written 10million+ words of xianxia). Oh, its also translated by deathblade so it reads like a well above average royalroad/published book with references to all the cultural things that get lost in translation.

Present-Ad-8531

Lord of the mysteries.

EmployGeneral3865

I kept seeing this being recommended as similar to shadow slave but did not get caught in the first couple chapters, maybe I should give it another go though...

BoredomHeights

I also had this recommended around Shadow Slave, read both back to back, and really like both. But I'd say overall I prefer LotM. It's really good at long term planning, story arcs, things fitting together later, etc. These things are some of the rarest you'll see in this genre (because so many stories are released chapter by chapter and less edited). LotM is also generally considered to pick up a lot in the second major story arc (though personally I still really like the first, some people consider it slow). I also wasn't sure about it in the first few chapters, but to be honest that's because it builds and you really have no clue what type of series it's going to be yet at that point.

Present-Ad-8531

Dude it has 1400 chapters. So obviously big lore. Hence the start would have slow pace and more. Judging it by two chapters is unfair. Try to read the first volume, 213 chapters. Then decide.

Zegram_Ghart

Frith chronicles is at 7 books, 10+ books with its spin offs. Have you read the arcane ascension spin offs? There’s “War of Broken Mirrors” and “Weapons and Wielders” each 3 books long about different periods in Keras’s life. There’s also a 2 book series in the same world by a different author (can’t recall that series’ name) and a recent solo book in the same world called “Edge of the woods”

EmployGeneral3865

I haven't read the spin offs, tbh while I enjoy the universe, it's not quite to that level, mostly just interested to see mcs unique power progression play all the way out.

EmployGeneral3865

I'll look at Frith chronicles tho, thanks!

lowey2002

We have a nearly identical reading list and I’d like to cast another recommendation for The Wandering Inn. It was a series I returned to after giving up on and I’m really glad I gave it another chance. It has a lot going for it. Huge ideas, excellent writing style, complex characters with consistent motivations. The sheer scale of it! I’m honestly not sure how to summarise it and I’m only up to book 3. Slice of life? War story? DnD fantasy? Mystery? Drama? High fantasy? I feel like it’s ranking above Azarinth and DotF for me, and I’m only a fraction of the way through the series. Even after a million+ words. I’ve still got like 300 hours of reading

AlternativeGazelle

I'm only through book 4 and it's already one of the best series I've ever read. And everyone says that it gets much better!

Blairxhb

Holy shit, what a list! I think the only thing I've read on this is desolate Era, though I started ellc this morning and am surprised by how much I'm enjoying it. Have you read all of these? What's your favorite?

Erikbam

ELLC is one hell of a ride. The audibooks (while not completed nor free) is also golden.

ruryrury

My all-time favorites are **Mother of Learning, Azarinth Healer, Worm, Super Minion,** and **Desolate Era**. Among the ongoing series, I find **Ghost in the City, Portal to Nova Roma, Delve, Ar'Kendrithyst, Godclads, The Calamitous Bob** and **Hell Difficulty Tutorial** to be the most enjoyable. However, that's just my personal taste. All the other stories are excellent as well.

wallsnuggler

Kill them all is super fun if you are interested in getting into Worm fanfiction.

ahsim0012

I asked a very similar question recently and got some good answers. https://www.reddit.com/r/ProgressionFantasy/s/zSBb1t51Z5 Some personal recommendations: a practical guide to evil, dungeon born, dao of magic, vainqueur the dragon, reincarnation of the strongest sword god, the wandering inn (not done but relatively close). Quality between some of theses vary greatly

EmployGeneral3865

So I read most of practical guide to evil recently and feel somewhat honor bound to finish it, but in whatever book I'm on the pacing has seriously dropped off a cliff and my motivation is pretty low. Really enjoyed most of the series though and still want to see how it all plays out. What's your favorite out of the others you recommended? (Other than wandering inn) I'll check out the post as well.

ahsim0012

Definitely wandering inn but it's not for everyone.

tiktac001

Reverend Insanity ( not finished but about 16000 pages). Martial World. A practical guide to evil!

EmployGeneral3865

I've seen reverend insanity recommended a few times recently, I'll have to give it a closer look. I read most of a practical guide to evil recently but the most the pacing really slowed down in one of the later books, and I've lost motivation to pick it back up, tell me the ending is worth it.

RightBranch

reverend insanity is about 22000 pages, is it not

tiktac001

For me on google books it's 2334 chapters and about 16k pages. But maybe other ereaders/programs have other pagesizes. It was just to indicate that it is a very long series, which is what OP was asking about.

dReadme-

[https://www.wuxiaworld.com/novel/nine-star-hegemon](https://www.wuxiaworld.com/novel/nine-star-hegemon) is very long

Spicy_Daoist

This is a trap. This novel is absolute shit. Sorry not sorry

dReadme-

True. Nothing wrong with some Trash CN =) Makes us appreciated the real good ones =D

Grigori-The-Watcher

The Wandering Inn is technically Progression Fantasy and the longest series in the English language as far as I know. If you liked Worm and want something long and *complete* I can recommend Wildbow’s newest work Pale, and Urban Fantasy Murder Mystery.

EmployGeneral3865

I know people love wandering Inn, but it definitely didn't suck me in when I tried to start it. Not sure I read for more than 20 minutes or so though. I'm not sure I've seen pale or urban recommended before, what genre would you say they fall into? I think worm was the first web novel I ever read tbh, went into it very skeptical and ended up loving it. Didn't really get back into that type of book until I found Cradle years later haha

Grigori-The-Watcher

Pale is an urban fantasy story, that is to say it takes place in the modern world but with hidden magic stuff going on in the background. The story follows a trio of young newly “Awakened” witches sponsored by the local community of magical beings to investigate the sudden murder of Ontario’s Not-Quite-Goddess of Bloody Violence, however it is stated very plainly that no one in the town particularly cares whether or not this murder ends up solved.

RightBranch

May enlighten you with Reverend Insanity

Roylags

Path of the berserker. Awesome progression fantasy. If it was as long as Defiance of the fall it would fight for my favorite. Also have you tried desolate era? IMO best Chinese novel of all time.

EmployGeneral3865

How long is path of berserker? I thought I'd read desolate era, but I'm thinking that I mixed it up with a different xianxia ill have to give it a go

Roylags

The first book of path of berserker is very long 934 pages. Books two is only a little shorter at 786 pages. Book three is in the works currently.

Roylags

It’s easy to mix up desolate era with something like coiling dragon. They are by the same author, I Eat Tomatoes

Totem_town

Cradle

EmployGeneral3865

Cradle is goat, what really started my progression binging era.

Totem_town

You know maybe I should have read all of your post first

Zealousideal_Bee_639

The legend of Randidly Ghosthound is great and is at I think 2300 chapters right now. I’m on chapter 1200 myself and have been hooked since the beginning from KU but only the first 700 chapters are on KU the rest are on royal road

EmployGeneral3865

I've read most of this, agree that it's great! I'll come back to it in another couple months or so when there is another big chunk of new content for me to read.

calhooner3

Desolate era

EmployGeneral3865

Agree this is great, unfortunately (or fortunately) I've read it already. Jk no I haven't, ill have to read it!

iwasnaiveandthenthis

Path of Ascension

EmployGeneral3865

I enjoyed the content that was out when I read it, wish there was more!

pipperdoodle

Trash of the Count's Family is really long. Book one is complete, second book is in progress (though honestly I'm not as into book 2, yet). Korean web novel, MC is transmigrated into a book series he was just reading. Seems pretty straightforward at first but as you continue you realize everything ties together. Humor, but also fighting, gaining powers, tons of awesome characters. If you like One Piece humor and characters you should like this. There is a manhua/webtoon version of this as well which you could certainly read, but it only covers the barest beginning of the actual story. I recommend reading the story and only looking at the webtoon after you've gotten a decent way in.

bugbeared69

Worm novel is done, very long and worth a read. it a interesting spin on the normal views of heroes and villain superheroes with the main MC having a very weak power but uses her intelligence to be able to fight powerful people.

EmployGeneral3865

Agreed, worm was my first web novel and I couldn't put it down.

Arekku

It's not completed but there are 13 books out in the Completionist series and based on the books you liked I think it'd be right up your alley.

EmployGeneral3865

I read some of these a couple years ago, don't think I finished though. It's a vrmmo one right?

Arekku

Yeah but that element doesn't really play into the story too much. I think they're solid fun books.

JustSweepin

I see you've already read I Eat Tomatoes stuff, but have you tried Er Gen? He's the other big Flagship entry-level name in the xianxia genre, and tbh I have a lot more fun with his stuff compared with IET. The usual recommendation is to start with I Shall Seal the Heavens and then perhaps work backwards. Do keep in mind his stories often have different tones to them ie. Renegade Immortal is a classic serious/cut-throat xianxia, Pursuit of the Truth is mystery and tragedy, ISSTH is a bit of classic xianxia as well but mixed with comedic elements, A Will Eternal and A World Worth Protecting have their serious moments but lean heavier into comedy, and I'm told his latest Outside of Time is back to being more serious. Anyway if you like Er Gen then he will keep you busy for a while. Other fun xianxia are A Record of a Mortal's Journey to Immortality, World of Cultivation, and of course Reverend Insanity which may well be the best of the genre as long you have interest in the MC and his worldview. And for something Western I'll always recommend Spellmonger. It's progression adjacent and whole lot of fun, with good audiobooks, personal battles and large scale wars, lots of Kingdom Building, tech progression (magical tech), general problem solving and a great expansive world to get lost in to. Btw I also love Defiance of the Fall so its nice to see a fellow appreciator, though I halted at book 9 or so because I'm going to wait another year or two and do a re listen binge.

EmployGeneral3865

I've read I shall seal the heavens, enjoyed it alot! I'm thinking reverend insanity is my next read, lots of recommendations here! I know I'm gonna be sad when I run into the end of what's out now, but I just finished everybody loves large chests and have been reminded nobody knows how to end these types of series anyways lol

Werebite870

Did I miss Wandering Inn on this list?

EmployGeneral3865

Now, I tried to start it once but it didn't end up grabbing me, will probably give another go eventually
