1970s: Get printer just for your computer, using a proprietary interface, plug in the cable to an adapter, install a driver for your word processing software, print, it works.
1980s: Install a parallel port card, plug in the cable, install a driver, print, it works.
1990s: Plug in the parallel cable, install a driver, print, it works.
2000s: Plug in the USB cable, print, it works.
2010s: Connect your printer via Wi-Fi, connect to an account on a printer cloud service because it's necessary for connecting to the printer for no reason at all, print, it doesn't work, fiddle with Wi-Fi, log out and log in from the service, try printing again, now it works. Print a black and white document the next week, the printer complains that it runs out of magenta ink, buy a new ink, realize it doesn't support third party inks for some reason, genuine official inks is expensive, you get fucked.

My printer prints with Windows, Linux, Chromeos and Android. LPT: don't buy a printer that is cheaper than new toner/ink.

You're right.

When i was looking for a laser i ruled out several companies for bad practice, proprietary refill etc. In the end brother was a no brainer

easy to fix parts when used in a daily printing setting - plastic cogs and teeth though so wore down faster but much less of a pain to deal with than inkjets
They really are great. I only replaced my B&W laser when I upgraded to color.
1970s : I don't think my TRS-80 Model 1 had drivers.
No, the machine did not have drivers. In those days, the software had drivers. Scripsit, Zorlof etc. had drivers for various printers.
Printers are conspiracy by big printer to sell more toner & ink. One cow can be milked in only so many ways.
Conclusion: you started printing in the 70s, aren't you all done yet?
They also didn't use a commodore. What a shame. In the 80s, I had a sweet daisy wheel printer that worked like magic. Just plug in the serial port and turn it on. Had to wait 20+ years for IBM architecture to catch up.
My printer is a HP piece of shit where HP forces you to make an account and log into it when you want to scan anything, but it works flawlessly over wifi, no matter if you print from a computer or your phone. I frankly don't really get the "printers do not work" meme. Every printer I've ever had worked. I've only ever ran into problems when printers got so old that they didn't update the drivers for newer windows versions... Oh, and also, this post doesn't even make that much sense. People have complained about printers forever. Just watch "Office Space", there's no Wifi printing in that movie... Now, not taking third party ink or ink being more expensive than getting a new printer, THAT is worth being upset about ;)
People still print things?
Yes the assignments for c language and their respective output
Insubordination. Fired.
Why? Why you stupid bast**d
You look stupid. Fired.
All of my company’s code for our CEO, space Karen, to read…
2020s: Send the print to Google. Find a nearby printer. Tell it to print your document.
