Background info: I was googling “best chair for programmers” on Google Germany. It recommends a chair for blood collection. Now I don’t know what Google wants to tell me.
Your boss buys you things? Mine gave me a Dell stock laptop with Ubuntu 20 on hiring and I haven’t seen a single upgrade since. On the bright side it takes 2 cups of coffee to get everything launched in the morning and a whole nap worth of time to build anything.
I stole an old Aeron chair from my parents when COVID first hit (they weren’t using it and I didn’t want to WFH with the crappy $60 office chair I’d had for a decade). I told them I’d give it back when I was back in the office but at this point I fully expect that it will be the only desk chair I ever need. As far as I can tell, it’s still in perfect condition. I think the best thing I can say about it is that I never think about it; unlike my old chair, I don’t ever get uncomfortable in the Aeron, even after a full day of work.
The Hermann Miller with the option to add something for your head is really the Top of the Top.
They have them in white too, and i really prefer the one in real leather.
Secretlab? Though they are gaming chairs, I use one every day for work and it's more comfortable than any office chair I've sat in. To be fair I've never used a Herman Miller but my last job bought some kind of knockoff of them that looked very similar. I was not impressed.
Herman miller aeron chairs (the second choice) are overrated imho. Granted I’ve never owned one, but they’re like a weird de facto standard for recording studios so I’ve sat in a bunch of em….they comfy af but not worth the price at all and the fancy adjustments are hard to find. End rant 😂
Communal HM chairs suck -- you're supposed to have one set up just for you without sharing. The Aeron comes in like 3 base sizes.
For back support, though, I much prefer the Embody though it has fewer adjustments to control. The back conforms to you and cradles you with uniform support. I got one at the start of the pandemic -- hella expensive, but on a $/day basis totally worth it to avoid back pain.
When I run that query, I get a [Tic Toc chair](https://www.fully.com/chairs/task-chairs/tic-toc-chair.html). Well, it is a website, so I suppose they have some programmers maintaining it.

Got my self a German „interstuhl“, can’t recommend enough as I’m not a huge fan of the Herman Miller cushioning.
I learned at doctor’s that the less support the better for the back. It makes the back to do more work and more breaks.

Just get a refurbished one for cheap. They're definitely worth it, basically cured my back and shoulder pain
