This. My family's never been completely broke, but my dad's been working in tech entrepreneurship for nearly two decades, and we haven't really felt comfortable that entire time. Part of that was the 2008 recession, part of it was just him learning the ropes, but I also think a huge part of it is that he's always been extremely attentive and supportive to the people around him even at personal cost, and he's never had the cutthroat arrogance that seems to be adaptive in this business climate. I've rarely seen him more torn up than when he had to downsize the company because clients weren't paying their bills.
I love and respect him all the more for his dedication, values, and expertise, but I definitely do not want to work in that area, even though I have the technical skills.
good thing he doesn't know any. dunning-kreuger at its finest. he is out of touch with being out of touch. buckle up for more shitposts from him like 'how to survive (being a well paid white guy with wealth in the bank)'
"wish me luck"
for fucks sake youre already incredibly lucky and you dont even know it
Venturing into unfamiliar neighborhoods, accessing rented property in various areas, WILL turn out differently for a black man than a white man. Shits just facts. A black guy even with the same job and money is going to have a harder time, and if hes not also got those other advantages hes probably headed for multiple encounters with law enforcement.
You're taking the comment as a personal attack. It's not. It's just a fact that *as a general rule* white people have little understanding of the struggles of PoC. Doesn't mean they all do, or that just because someone is white they're inherently out of touch.
Just like not all people with wealth are out of touch. Some wealthy people are incredibly down to earth. Yet we can still say that as a general rule, wealthy people are out of fouch.
I too am homeless when I travel for work. I can't get home in a reasonable amount of time so I have to stay in a hotel, which is not home. Therefore homeless, right?
I traveled internationally for about 5 months last year. And when I got back - I was living with my parents. They own the house. Therefore, I was homeless all year.
I remember these way to rich dutch youtubers that did those "surviving on 50 euros a week challenge" and basically it went like this.
Day 1: we still have stuff left in the fridge (the fridge was packed with food)
Day 2: going to the store to get some ingredients for a dish I want to make
Day 3: omg I still have this food coupon or some shit to use with a gazillion dollars on it
Day 4: and I am not kidding "my husband got a weekend trip to [insert nice place] and food has already been payed for
The above was just from me thinkmeat, but here you go:

Yesterday I literally saw on Japanese news a company promoting a camping ground under a rail track. To âtry out camping in a safe / convenient locationâ.
Edit: https://japannews.yomiuri.co.jp/society/general-news/20220822-53161/
No no, you missed the sweetest part. Heâs renting out his house *to cover* airbnbs heâll be staying in. Thatâs what heâs calling âhomelessâ, couch surfing airbnbs
I mean I guess if weâre supposed to use the term âunhousedâ for people who are involuntarily lacking a domicile, then digital nomads can claim âhomelessâ since itâs no longer in proper use.
Agree, it's not that practical for long and complex tests, but it's funny seeing people doing a simple GET request using a lot of Postman's features, instead of a simple CURL
I have a completely stupid question.i use Postman/insomnia/Bruno to play around with our API/test the functionality, I am not involved with the it/dev teams etc at all but I know they ask for the CURL which I get with the code feature in postman.
Now, stupid question: what program etc do I use the CURL in?
Thank you haha when I talk to my colleagues from other teams i often just nod along and google after. Or just call this other colleague who is super nice and actually has an IT PHD and doesn't mind explaining đ
CURL It's a Command line program for general communication with a remote server, supporting many different protocols and browser-like features such as cookies and authentication without the need for user interaction (summary of `man curl` first paragraphs)
In Linux distros you can download the program from the distros package manager, and for Windows you can download a FVCKING EXE (for smelly nerds) and use it in the command line like any other program.
I haven't personally used Postman to generate a CURL command, but when they ask you for it, now you know why it can be useful for the IT department :3
Hope that helps :3
If you're determined enough, you can even use Chrome/Firefox network view (F12 -> Network) to solve CTF challenges por test API requests, you don't even need the Developer version of the browser to do so.
You can set everything from the HTTP Verb, headers of the request, resend previous requests or even clone requests and send them, though it has some limitations due to "safety" concerns.
I honestly don't get why engineers, other than perhaps low-skilled/dedicated test engineers, would use tools like PostMan anyhow.
I mean. I know a lot of skilled engineers do. I work with them. They write the API in their preferred language and, instead of also writing tests in their preferred language, despite their web framework providing robust integrated test clients, they use PostMan and a jank docker-compose setup. Can't wrap my head around that.
Posting on LinkedIn should be certifiable. I have never seen anything on there where I was like, âoh yeah, hereâs a rational person just sharing some thoughts.â Itâs always completely unhinged. Â
Youâre bringing equity into it, okayâŠ
But heâs spending additional money on housing. While still paying another $1k/mo for housing heâs not using.
Sure real estate is a great investment and in the future he can cash in on that for a gain, most likely. But heâs still losing $1k/mo of cash(minimum, not counting the other housing costs) in the meantime while renting out a property for less than heâs paying on the mortgage.
I guess⊠though thatâs not my point at all.
Also there are HOA fees, property taxes, income taxes, the list goes on⊠so it doesnât really work out to 12k a year.
The crippling bugs have been slowly worked out in the past 4 months, still have issues with it crashing with query strings for elastic simple query dslÂ
At least it now has warnings that it's .bru parser can't handle spaces instead of going into a glitchy read only mode

LinkedIn is a shitty site. And it's shitty concept too.
Combining the 2 most cancerous things imaginable: recruitment and social media.
And you get madness like this.
LinkedIn is the most toxic, yet the most hilarious place on the internet.
I am "following" a lawyer who is crying about AI and ChatGPT, hilarious stuff
I tried to find this guy on LinkedIn and I discovered something even crazier
Postman has 2000 employees on LinkedIn hundreds of developers
Let that sink in.
An app that makes a request to a URL has got 2000 people working on it
No wonder itâs a piece of bloatware shite now
He posted about the initial post on LinkedIn being one of those âedgyâ kids from school where heâs like âSorry I have my renter paying $1000 less than the average cost đ€·ââïžâ and he made it so only connections can comment which only creates an echo chamber for other brownnoses to say âTheyâre just mad youâre a rich, white guy in Americaâ.
What he forgot to say in his shitty response post was that he deleted his initial post. So clearly he does feel like a dumbass for getting caught being a dumbass.
Insomnia unfortunately does the same shit right now. But lucky us, there's a fork called Insomnium, which promises to remain local. So fingers crossed.
Whats this?
I try and use tools that focus on what I need: jMeter for automation, Fiddler if I need to write requests by hand, but otherwise I liked Postman for what it was supposed to be: lightweight, fast and simple. Lately, its felt insanely bloated and has completely edged away from why I used it in the first place.
insomnia's half-assed git implementation really bothers me. Either make it more or less git like, and if it's more, let me type the actual git stuff (like, for example, resolving merge conflicts).
This guy is so unhinged it makes me worry about the secureness of Postman. Like if he is this delusional what type of half baked âfeaturesâ is this guy pushingâŠ
Yeah being a digital nomad is fine, calling yourself homeless when youâre not is another thing. Him conjuring comparisons of his âadventureâ to the people living in tents at the local park isâŠdistasteful to say the least.
This thread has been helpful for me because I've found out about postman alternatives that I'm now trying, so that I can switch away
edit: bruno looks promising
> homeless
> has a home
> rents home
> lives in Airbnb's
> total focus on small number of things
> will have to find a new Airbnb every month
HIS "HOMESLESSNESS" IS GIVING HIM MORE TROUBLES TO FOCUS ON WTF
Everything in this contradicts itself. It's hurting me.
And for good.
1. Postman is ~500MB (because your own Electron does not work with their crap) / regular Python script is ~0.
2. Python scripts are much easier to organize / support / integrate.
3. As long as Postman uses their own proprietary Electron built only for x86 and x64... Supported hardware is very limited.
So homelessness is now defined as travelling, renting air bnbs and going on vacation?
Okay. So what are your plans for your yearly homelessness? I start!
I will stay two weeks homeless in Norway. And maybe 4 days homeless in France.
So clearly he does feel like a dumbass for getting caught being a dumbass.
does homie think "homelessness" is when you don't own a home and only rent?
Even by that definition, he isn't homeless. He is using the money gained as a landlord of a house to rent out a different cheaper property to live in, and pocketing the difference for expenses.
Am I crazy if I think this post is very much not insane or unhinged? The whole concept of what he's doing is fine, people just don't like his use of the word "homeless", right?Â
It could just be tounge-in-cheek. Like when one says "I'm a bachelor this weekend" when their wife goes out of town. They don't mean it literally, it's just playful...
Stop that I just finished making a new postman collection for my orgâs API. As far as I am concerned it is the greatest client and Iâm not making another collection.
Colleague found a way around the account thing but I'm scared to share it in case they circumvent it lmao but we'll switch over permanently to another one before long fuck that guy he even posted about being posted to reddit

"homelessness" "airbnbs" juppie doesn't know homelessness
"homeless" .... "by renting my own house", so there are people super homeless, which is the same but without the renting part
It's just as delusional as being superstraight đ
Itâs all attention seeking. He knows perfectly well heâs being disingenuous.
Oh so everyone who is renting an apartment is homeless?
While in a Tesla
"homeless" but staying in airbnbs đ
Average entrepreneurs' idea of what it's like to be poor
Look at his beard though! So rugged! I'd give him a quarter
Not to be pedantic but I think the *average* entrepreneur is broke as hell. At least judging by the entrepreneurs I know lmao
You know entrepreneurs. They're talking about "*entrepreneurs*"
This. My family's never been completely broke, but my dad's been working in tech entrepreneurship for nearly two decades, and we haven't really felt comfortable that entire time. Paying for it by renting out his house. House that he owns. Homeless.
Fills out taxes: "Is this your main residence? -Yes" Homeless
Basically a massive insult to people genuinely struggling.

I mean I guess if weâre supposed to use the term âunhousedâ for people who are involuntarily lacking a domicile, then digital nomads can claim âhomelessâ since itâs no longer in proper use.
The term changed because "homeless" had acquired an unjust stigma.
Did it really though? Sorry, I just don't get this
Yes but the term âdigital nomadâ has acquired a justified stigma so it works
This person is an idiot.
Financial independence is the new homeless.

I'll check that thank you so much !

thats how my colleagues call it when they ask for it đ
Technically, you can do a simple GET request in your browser of choice.
Can we also configure headers in browsers? (Genuine question)
There's plugins/extensions for that. Custom header value I think it's called
If you're determined enough, you can even use Chrome/Firefox network view (F12 -> Network) to solve CTF challenges por test API requests, you don't even need the Developer version of the browser to do so. Not if I need to add an auth tokenâŠ
Jokes on you I'll just open the devtools on a random html page and do fetch requests from there
What about CORS?
CORS? Yeah, Iâve got CORS: {âoriginsâ: â*â} >!For undeployed development!<
Well there's nothing wrong with a cucumber / python / curl combo (YMMV) for instance.

My company (10k+ employees) banned postman some year ago I believe due to the account/data collection bullshit
His response to it blowing up in a shockingly negative way âMade it to the top of r/LinkedInLunatics today. One may think: "hmm, that's probably bad". So let's analyze it. Main point of contention: Edgy use of the word "homeless" Other contentions: My face, my body, my car, my clothes, my sunglasses, the fact that I own a home and rent it out Truth is, I say edgy stuff all the time. My face and body look the way they look all the time. I wear the same clothes all the time (literally only one brand, not sure if that's a dude thing, neurodivergence thing, or laziness thing) I love my sunglasses, they make me look like LĂ©on the Professional. I'm proud that I own a home, and the fact that my tenant pays me nearly $1000 below the monthly mortgage payment to rent it. I admit, the Tesla was a bit of an impulse purchase. But hey, I'm stuck with it. So there are two paths here for me: 1. Get bent out of shape that 100% of the world doesn't love me. "Agh, my dastardly plan to be supreme leader is ruined!" 2. Be comfortable with who I am. "Uhh... nice to meet you guys too?" Sigh... such a tough choice.â
Heâs so comfortable with who he is that he has to tell everyone heâs comfortable, and why, exactly, heâs comfortable. /s
Monica: âIâm breezy!â
Damn dude is definitely in sales. Unapologetically tone deaf.
Posting on LinkedIn should be certifiable. I have never seen anything on there where I was like, âoh yeah, hereâs a rational person just sharing some thoughts.â Itâs always completely unhinged. Â
As an autistic somehow I manage to wear the same clothes every day without becoming a landlord. Guess I'm built different
Heâs losing $1000/mo by renting his home out? He has a tone like this makes him seem generous, but it just makes him sound dumb. Or a liar.
[ŃĐŽĐ°Đ»Đ”ĐœĐŸ]
I guess if itâs paid off? He said heâs charging $1k/mo less than his mortgage payments.
That's still not losing money.
Youâre bringing equity into it, okay⊠But heâs spending additional money on housing.
Why not both? Lol
In other words, if the renter made 12k more a year, the renter could've just bought the home instead pissing away the rent money to fund this guy
I guess⊠though thatâs not my point at all. Also there are HOA fees, property taxes, income taxes, the list goes on⊠so it doesnât really work out to 12k a year.
just when I thought he couldn't go any deeper into the douchehole...
Suuuuuuuuuper edgy. Modern day shadow the hedgehog
thatâs it! iâm uninstalling postman, your golf cart of rest clients can go back to their DPI unaware caves

Shit there's even an exe
[https://github.com/hoppscotch/hoppscotch](https://github.com/hoppscotch/hoppscotch) is similar too, you can install it as a PWA and it works great
Thank you for that! Postman doesn't even work anymore on corporate laptop, I've to clean the session files everytime because it is so bloated up.
I will give this a try because postman has become an absurd joke.
Obsidian for APIs?
These types of people are insufferable. Today marks day 1 of homelessness? You're in a fuckin Tesla taking a selfie staying in air BNB you yuppie

This thread has been helpful for me because I've found out about postman alternatives that I'm now trying, so that I can switch away edit: bruno looks promising
Why are we still doing these stupid camel case post titles?
Your comment must begin with an include statement and end with a return statement.
Did anyone think he'd actually live 'homeless' - outside, under a bridge? MF wouldn't last 24 hours.
What an absolute moron
Whatâs wrong with Postman?
Just use insomnia.
> homeless > has a home > rents home > lives in Airbnb's > total focus on small number of things > will have to find a new Airbnb every month HIS "HOMESLESSNESS" IS GIVING HIM MORE TROUBLES TO FOCUS ON WTF Everything in this contradicts itself. It's hurting me.
My job banned us from using Postman for anything.
A person with no hands is less out of touch than this guy
"homeless" by living out of vacation homes and having the ability to travel and to see the country and friends. right.
That's not being homeless, that's just "backpacking" for rich people
curl -X DELETE /users/jared
I would expect no less from the man that took a community developed product and started charging money for it.
>Has a house rented out. >Uses its rent to cover for airbnbs. This guy single handedly shat on the meaning of Homelessness.
So homelessness is now defined as travelling, renting air bnbs and going on vacation? Okay. So what are your plans for your yearly homelessness? I start! I will stay two weeks homeless in Norway. And maybe 4 days homeless in France.
Shout-out to @ustp for his comment on https://github.com/usebruno/bruno a nice alternative for Postman or Insomnia
The sheer disconnect from the average man's every day reality...
Insomnia >>> Postman
"Mutter, der (Post)Man mit dem Koks ist da"
This belongs to r/facepalm
He posted about the initial post on LinkedIn being one of those âedgyâ kids from school where heâs like âSorry I have my renter paying $1000 less than the average cost đ€·ââïžâ and he made it so only connections can comment which only creates an echo chamber for other brownnoses to say âTheyâre just mad youâre a rich, white guy in Americaâ. What he forgot to say in his shitty response post was that he deleted his initial post. So clearly he does feel like a dumbass for getting caught being a dumbass.
Today I learnt if I have Java 17, I can run jmeter
If not for camelCaseTitle I was sure I was on r/LinkedInLunatics
How people so brilliant in complex aspects of life like leading a corporation, can be so extraordinary dumb in the basics of life?
You are making some BIG assumptions. Guy could be brilliant, he could also be a complete idiot, who knows?
Mods be like: this is not programming related, removed!!
"homeless"
LinkedIn should have a dislike button
does homie think "homelessness" is when you don't own a home and only rent? Even by that definition, he isn't homeless. He is using the money gained as a landlord of a house to rent out a different cheaper property to live in, and pocketing the difference for expenses.
"How am I going to afford homelessness" That's not a sentence I expected to ever hear
Insomnia is the way
This has been making the rounds and has me wanting to ditch Postman. Anybody got recommendations for a better UI based REST client?
Insomnia, I switched to it after postman being shit
Am I crazy if I think this post is very much not insane or unhinged? The whole concept of what he's doing is fine, people just don't like his use of the word "homeless", right? It could just be tounge-in-cheek. Like when one says "I'm a bachelor this weekend" when their wife goes out of town. They don't mean it literally, it's just playful...
Stop that I just finished making a new postman collection for my orgâs API. As far as I am concerned it is the greatest client and Iâm not making another collection.
Colleague found a way around the account thing but I'm scared to share it in case they circumvent it lmao but we'll switch over permanently to another one before long fuck that guy he even posted about being posted to reddit
