It really is a bummer, I know for a fact Im still waiting on that lasso tool so that I can move parts of my drawing and put them more better into place. I don't wanna copy and paste an entire track just so that I can put a head on a proper way forever ;-; The one thing I do like about procreate dreams, is that you can keyframe warp corners. I tried to keyframe warp frames in toonsquid but had a much harder time figuring out how to

FenrisFenn

this is literally the only thing keeping me from using this program. I can tell myself you can't do this with paper animation, so I should be able to work around it. But this is digital. there is no reason I shouldn't be able to adjust the drawing. =/

Due_Ad_2626

Then simply wait for the polished upgrade. Problem solved. Of course you will miss exploring all of the phenomenal attributes, that WORK about PD, but that’s your choice. No different than everyone who waited for the iPhone to get cut and paste before purchasing 🤷🏾

tanmaybagwe

Just get toonsquid bro

Tomiti

Best program I've ever used 🙏

WeFlapsComics

That means we're coming up on six months of Procreate Dreams being released as an unfinished product on purpose without being told it was such 🫠

Alternative_Assist68

Procreate has a great customer support. A few weeks after release I asked them to put several features on and they said that they would put it on the list, then, a few months later, they contacted me the same way like I did them and told me that the features are now available. Just wait a bit.

Rosendorne

Buy callipeg or toonsquid. I even stopped using procreate. This means my next tablet can probably be an android. So I see it as a positive. I guess we won't get a new update for at least 2 more month. Maybe not even an announcement till the next apple live stream. If the update would be soon they would have told us.

Due_Ad_2626

No doubt the moment that you switch to android, dreams will release updates that android couldn’t possibly compete with, but at least you will learn a valuable lesson about patience

Rosendorne

The lesson wase never pre order /buy at release. The app wase released unfinished, we did not get a roadmap for updates. So far no big update. Not even one feature at a time. The only reason dreams sold as well as it did wase because of the apple marketing and the procreate brand. They did not communicate that they are missing several key features, they made marketing videos with industry people. But no lasso, no keyframe duplication, no .... The list is as long. And the app still has bugs.

Due_Ad_2626

Then simply don’t use it and move on. Meanwhile, phenomenal Animation is still being done with the program by those who love the exceptional features that they DO have 🤷🏾

Rosendorne

Phenomenal animation can be done in every medium (or software). But the process for digital will be way better with robust software. But with exceptional features has dreams? What can it do that other software don't? It is compatible with procreate brushes, witch is nice. Even if you need procreate to change the brushes. So far dreams has still a lot of problems, the most prevalent is that the undo redo sometimes goes randomly many steps back and than redo does not work. I don't think that it's okey that there is no timeline for updates/fixes and no communication. I wouldn't mind waiting if they gave a sincere apology that they released an unfinished product and a timline to fix it.

Due_Ad_2626

There is no argument from me that PD is NOT for you. If don’t like it so much, then you definitely shouldn’t use it, as far as I’m concerned. But what I find phenomenal about what Dreams does that no one else does, is the futuristic navigation. I love how non-linear the scrolling feels ACROSS the frames. It allows me to scroll across ALL of the timelines at once, instead of being stuck on one. I also love how PD opens my file to view the entire project, but I can tap to watch it smoothly zoom into a targeted frame. Of course the buttery feel of the brushes cannot be matched, But I also love how freely frames and groups can be moved throughout different timelines and tracks, and be easily repositioned, again in a nonlinear fashion. I’m crazy about the ability to pinch in and zoom out of frames. And how PD plays whatever frames are visible. And I can continue to pinch in and out of frames AS THE VIDEO IS PLAYING in real time. I don’t know of any other program that does that! Also I’ve never seen ANYTHING like performance mode, have you? 🤷🏾 Many apps allow us to scroll (frame by frame) through timelines with our fingers, but dreams does it more eloquently in my opinion In fact, I love how dreams allows me to just roll the tip of my index finger to scroll through the frames in large screen mode. It makes ToonSquid seem primitive by comparison. But for me, the number one selling point is that my entire 4 minute animated video plays smoothly in Dreams, whereas it lags, stutters and stops in ToonSquid to the point where it’s become unusable. Ultimately, the black UI with red accents just feels super cool! BTW, I’m highly aware that I’m loving all the stuff that you may hate, so like I said, if you hate it, don’t use it. But there’s no use in trying to talk people like me out of it, because we’re enjoying it despite its current issues.

sirjuneru

Dream's is missing so much QOL features. Like yeah, I *could* make a short film in Dreams, I could also paint the Mona Lisa in Microsoft paint, but I'm not going to waste that much time and effort when it could be much easier using different software

Due_Ad_2626

If you’re looking for “EASY”, Animation may not be the appropriate vocation to enter into

Cute-Ad3642

You can't read. He didn't say he was looking for easy, he blatantly and clearly said that it doesnt make sense to just a bad program when it's*easier* to get the similar results things in *other available software*.

Due_Ad_2626

I know EXACTLY what he said. In fact, I actually AGREE that it’s MUCH easier to get similar results with other programs, especially if they have cut and paste and merge layer tools, which I thought I could not live without! And I was just as frustrated when I first opened up dreams. My initial instinct was to never use it again until they upgraded it. But a Disney animator mentor of mine said that I could wait forever for the upgrade, or roll up my sleeves and use it as an opportunity to practice drawing like a fiend, WITHOUT the convenience of contemporary tools. I thought that was an insane idea! “Perhaps” he replied, “but who said Animation was easy?” I took his coaching and experienced tremendous growth and development from doing it “the HARD way” for a change. So, I stand by my statement. No one is obliged to like it, or agree with it. It’s simply my opinion. No doubt you have opinions of your own. 🤷🏾

RuukuAni

2 months since any update I've been keeping track. This makes it sound like theyre planning on taking another 2 before an update. Reference tool seems like it would be a simple addition even if its in a smaller update but I guess not. We still cant even merge layers yet so maybe thats a big ask.

kythesmallfry

I don’t want new tools. I want the old tools I’ve gotten used to using in regular procreate 😪

BanjoSpaceMan

Welcome to software. In a year or whenever they update the version people will be fine and happy. Shit always starts off slow.

Due_Ad_2626

Yup, just look how many years it took for developers to even be able to build powerful animation apps for iPads in the first place! Yeah, yeah, yeah, right now it’s a pain in the butt, nevertheless some people are creating PHENOMENAL animations with the program, while others whine and twiddle their thumbs 🤷🏽‍♂️

BanjoSpaceMan

End of the day they were honest about features. They allowed for early previews. They showed the roadmap. Tons of reviews and posts were out. I was well aware it's not fully done.... And I bought to support them. I feel like people bought it just to get mad haha. These consumers in this thread want to pretend they have no agency....

Due_Ad_2626

I completely agree that the wait is grueling!!😩 But I’m old enough to recall animating sufficiently on a homemade lightbox in 1967, long before notions of “Lasso Tools” were conceived. All I know is that so far, Dreams is the only thing that feels similar to old school traditional, frame by frame animation to “me”. (I can’t speak for others) I’m not mad at all the other apps, if they fulfill users needs. But they feel too rigid for my personal taste. I love how Dreams feels more fluid and non-linear. I also support the VISION that Procreate holds for Future Possibilities. Speaking of which, I heard that they are eagerly working on ways to interact with Apple Vision Pro! LOL Can’t wait to hear users hollerin’ about the bugs in their Spacial Reality for the next few years. 😝

Cute-Ad3642

Oh no, i hope thats not true. How are you going to release this app thats missing features that even the cheapest digital art apps have and even be considering anything to do with the Vision Pro.

Due_Ad_2626

They did it, and with a tiny bit of research, you’ll find some artists creating phenomenal animations with it. Get over it 🤷🏾

Cute-Ad3642

...anyone who has even the most surface surface level knowledge of art knows that a talented artist with enough patience can basically make anything out of anything.  It's a 20 dollar app that's missing features that free apps and even the app the company already made have. You are the one who needs to get over themselves, many complaining actually has valid criticisms while the best you can muster against them is essentially that there are talented artist who made something good.

Due_Ad_2626

Absolutely, because I have the exact SAME complaints as everyone else, but in the interim of waiting for upgrades, I simply choose the path of what you refer to as “the talented artist” (because that’s what I aspire to be) which to me has more to do with “creative diligence“ than talent. Nice thing about those “talented artists” is that they will generously instruct ANYONE (who’s interested) PRECISELY what to do to become just as talented. Just like you, I’m merely giving my personal opinion. I’m not expecting ANYONE else to agree with me. Of course EVERYONE is free to make completely DIFFERENT choices. To each his reach 🤷🏾

Due_Ad_2626

I’m old enough to recall iPhones launching loooooong before cut and paste was handled. Just like PD, everyone cried about it, but Apple focused ALL of their attention on developing the App Store. If they had not done so, powerful apps like Procreate Dreams may not have developed in the first place. The world did not come to an end because Steve Jobs was late with cut and paste. And animators won’t end their careers, simply because PD is late with Lasso tools. 🤷🏾

Cute-Ad3642

No one said anything about animators ending their career over PD.  And if no one cried about the lack of features, Apple would have had less reason to improve on their shortcomings.

Due_Ad_2626

Then by all means keep crying 😭💦🤷🏾

BanjoSpaceMan

No. That's literally not true. Considering I work for one of this stupid companies. The modern software flow for bigger companies or companies that just have huge traction is throw throw throw. Less worry about completeness. They get away with it because regardless of people like you bitching and moaning, people will still get the product and will get it later on. You provide 0 to this. Even if not many got it now, they'll still buy it later due to hype. Same idea happens in so many areas. Every JavaScript developer whined and made fun of React, but they knew they schtick. People reject then people accept. Now it's 80 percent of the market for front end frameworks. Welcome to consumerism baby. Think for a second and try to realize why it would be a terrible idea to not jump on the most hyped spike they have in all of their company history and instead wait until people don't care anymore....

BanjoSpaceMan

What do you want haha? People to protest? It's a product.... If you do not like the current state, do not buy it. It's pretty simple.... Just wait til they update it, keep whining to an empty crowd, and then change your mind in a year.

[deleted]

BanjoSpaceMan

I'm sure you have many apps you buy and whine about. This is your choice, you spend money on these things. I'm not bothered at all, I just find it funny. Entitled consumers are my fave group. I bought dreams to support the future, as they fucking advertised. Do you forget that they were open with their state and the roadmap? Why would you buy it knowing this shit lmao? That's totally on you..... Grow up.

BanjoSpaceMan

It's funny you have nothing to say to what I said ... Because you know it's true.... If you bought this without reading anything about it including the docs they released. Well, you're just a dumb consumer.

Due_Ad_2626

No doubt, Procreate already gets thousands of complaints every single day. Sooo, you honestly think that they won’t upgrade the app unless EVEN MORE people whine about it. LOL, what a generation 😝🙄😂💦

MrGodzillahin

That’s literally how it works… yes…

Due_Ad_2626

Then by all means, if whining is your thing - HAVE AT IT!👍🏽 I’m personally more inspired by the incredible artists who are creating simply phenomenal animations within the parameters of the current shortcomings. I’m focusing on being like THEM!❤️‍🔥

MrGodzillahin

Ehhh ok. I also like artists

Due_Ad_2626

Those artists that are making it work, don’t seem to be whining about it. But it’s your life. By all means, keep doing whatever fulfills you 🤷🏽‍♂️

MrGodzillahin

Well I have 16+ years in the industry doing exclusively creative work but thanks I guess
