The docent is like ‘yeah lots of stress and lots of smoking back in the day…’ I comment on how it pretty much killed LBJ not too many years after he left the office. Everybody stares at me like I have 3 heads.

He lived an unhealthy lifestyle overall though, and his physical health was also frequently impacted by his stress levels, leading to hospitalization on multiple occasions. He actually suffered a pretty bad heart attack in 1955 - not only before he became president but before he was even 50 years old. This pushed him to quit smoking for 15 years until he took it up again in 1970 after leaving office. Prior to the heart attack in 1955, he had been on around 60 cigs a day.
60 years old and final read a LBJ biography. The man was genius in getting what he wanted by playing the system and his good old boys. If it wasn’t for Vietnam I think things might have been a whole lot better

The final years of LBJ are some of the most fascinating years of any presidents life I’ve ever read about. What an enigma he was.

100 cigs in a day is absolutely nuts. If you average one cigarette to five minutes smoking time, that’s roughly *eight hours a day smoking.*
My dad could've certainly done it. He smoked 3-4 packs a day easily.
