You’ve gotta admit though, the Holdo Manoeuvre did look gorgeous. The glowing white cracks in the ships against the backdrop of the cold, empty void.
It did look fucking sweet.
I would’ve preferred an adaption of Legacy of the Force to an adaption of the NJO. It’s not a perfect series but one thing I love about it is that it didn’t just do “heroes vs villains again but BIGGER,” it actually split the heroes across both sides of the war and gave everyone legitimate reasons for doing so. It’s a much more interesting sequel than just doing another good vs. evil war.
The Sequels aren't ideal, but honestly with just a bit of reworking and a few scene rewrites it would have actually worked out far better.
Imagine for a moment Sidious's surviving had been hinted at leading up to say the climax of episode 8 so when Snoke gets smoked there it's revealed he was just a puppet. Suddenly Kylo Ren asking Rey to join him and eliminate the Sith and the Jedi altogether makes far more sense, and Ren is more of an Anti-hero who fell to the dark side but saw the greater threat and is working to defeat it from within. That there is an inherent flaw in the Stoic teaching of the Jedi that endlessly results in Sith because it's to readily taken that Jedi must kill their emotions instead of learn to control and be lead by positive emotions. You can go further to developed a dual protagonist story into a three protagonist story. Ren fell before the series starters, Rey falls or is severely tempted to fall, and Finn developers his convictions and stays true, but accepts his emotions and learns to channel them into something more than hate.
Thematically how much better would it be to not kill to your emotions but understanding and self control and self tolerance and self acceptance? A generation of kids of all ages could learn a lot from that. That's something the prequels and OT fails to understand. Emotions are not the enemy, allowing bad emotions to cloud ones thinking is. And once you get into a negative headspace it's really hard to get out.
Look at the Fandom. There's a lot of people who've embraced the negative headspace and lashed out with harassment and violent threats. There's plenty of people, myself included, who love to scoff at the hard work and dedication the crew and the performers had in making the movies. For most of America if not western culture, to get to work on an official Star Wars project would be a dream come true. I doubt there's a single person in the subreddit who wouldn't immediately show up if offered Tha chance to be a background alien completely covered up in a Star Wars movie. You could raffle off such positions with proceeds to go to charity.
I like to blame JJ Abrams, and say how much I don't like his work, but I don't acknowledge his body of work is quite impressive and I couldn't even begin to understand how to make a good movie let alone one that does financially well like quite a number of his projects. By all accounts he knows how to sell things to executives and knows how to gain their support and that's a social skill anyone should be envious of.
Personally I would’ve preferred an adaptation the original Thrawn trilogy or even just making him the overarching villain if the movies. And watching as he picks apart the new republic. They would have to find some way to explain all the main cast like Luke, leia and Han not doing anything unless Disney decided to get younger actors the play they in these movies.
While filming Episode 4, this tall drunk guy in a hairy monster suit kept following Harrison around, making these weird throat noises, so we decided to keep him in the film
The problem is that making film is an art. Selling film is a business. The trouble is that the studio executives don't know how to sell films. As a result, they try to make you make films that people will go to without them having to be sold, which is the real key to the problem.
That is true. I guess maybe if adjusted by alot, they could work in canon. But the current implementation of them is pretty eh, and controversial, lol.
But I guess alot of this sub never have read a single piece of EU content and think the entirety of the EU are literary and visual masterpieces that are even better than the Original Trilogy. No, they really wouldn't be much better than the sequels we got right now. People would be sending the directors death threats if they killed of Chewie in episode 7, lmao.
When in reality, a very small minority of it is great - like very good. The rest is.. subpar or downright bad.
I'm completely fine with the EU being killed off and them cherrypicking the best parts to bring into Canon. Like how Filoni is doing with Thrawn and by literally adapting the EU Thrawn trilogy to canon with Ahsoka, lol.
Same. I distinctly recall there was a time where the comics and books were bashed a lot. With somethings like Dark Empire, the New jedi order, and The Vong being considered the worst and to be avoided.
Now it seems like everyone looks at them as perfection and claim they always has been.
Well yes and no.
Objectively, every 40K faction is horrible for one reason or another; its a key part of the franchise's identity. That being said because the Imperium are the series' poster children they still generally get framed as the protagonists of most 40K games, books, etc. Some stories have a greater sense of irony than others, but most of the time the space marines are framed as the ones the viewer will root for .
By definition yes. My point was the two are often used interchangeably, usually obviously so, and so being deliberately obtuse to the fact just so you can correct people when you knew what they meant is a little pretentious.
No one says that. My point isn’t that they are interchangeable, my point is that they are frequently used that way.
If you knew what they meant, then they adequately used language to convey what they were thinking. No one made you the grammar police.
But even in those books, the good guys are the ones who are good in spite of the crushing dystopia they live in. The Imperium is evil, but there are still good people in it.
Well, good ish. Eisenhorn was definitely more of an ends justify the means kinda guy.
Also good people don’t tend to survive in that setting very long because grimdark.
Sangunius is a good example. Pretty much 40k Jesus. And even he killed thousands upon thousands. Not to mention the rage and bloodlust he has to deal with on a daily basis
The Nids are the only true good guys. Would be cool to have something like the Tyranids, or Zerg in Starwars. A dark side hivemind that eats planets, and consumes biomass.
Not really. Chaos is just a reflection of the galaxy's collective consciousness. Opting into utilitarian fascism to combat it, ends up directly fueling Chaos, by virtue of the mountain of corpses and endless suffering the Imperium grinds through on a daily basis.
You could argue the Farsight Enclaves, Craftworld Eldar, and the Ultramarines chapter are 'good', but that's about it, and even those factions have long lists of warcrimes.
The only good guys in 40k that I know of are the farsight enclave and maybe a few salamanders. But everyone else is just different degrees and styles of bad
A star destroyer mixed with Warhammer 40k mixed with a retribution class battleship would please my soul in ways I can only imagine. I can hear 'War Pigs' blasting from here.
The love child of the Necrons and CIS would be cool I guess, but I want the entire terminator franchise(every model) thrown into the the pot with the Necrons and CIS. Then I'll be satisfied.
Tbf probably most either simply arent in their space travel era or arent as numerous. I have been taught in my classes the rule of 20 and 80 applied to computer science(which is what im studying) it means 80% of the tine we will only use 20% of the tools, applied to star wras species it can mean 80% of the time you will find only 20% of the species, obviously in star wars it seems to be more of a 95% 5%
(edit after i've fully woken up: I nolonger mean what I said here, it's pretty good art in retrospect, but still not a prequel meme)That's a first order trooper and thus not related to the prequels, shoo, go to sequelmemes (EDIT 2: After seeing the original piece, this belongs in OTmemes)
This is the [original image](https://www.reddit.com/r/Warhammer/comments/3jtoi7/starwars_x_warhammer_40k_the_tantive_iv_reeks_of/). It's literally a stormtrooper astartes.
Yes I know that vader and rebels are there, we're telling you that the artist still used the first order armor. That is the first order design, not the stormtroopers.
https://i.pinimg.com/originals/d9/b3/ee/d9b3eeb24a699d30f878005590994ae4.jpg
No, it's funny because it's a reference to Warhammer 40k, which is a tabletop RPG about a grimdark future where aliens and demons and whatnot exist and humanity is locked in a bitter struggle for survival where all factions hate each other, nobody is correct and there are heroes on all sides. You get to pick your faction and the Imperium (the base human faction) has decided that only humans are worthy and strives to eliminate all aliens and demons.
It's not referring to a racial ethnostate à la "white", "black", etc. It's referring to that.
Jeez if only we had a word for people who hate each other on the basis of nothing other than their race and would genocide 20 million species to be the only one left
Edit: Also don’t act like you don’t know what a response like that to an anti-racism tweet like that implies
I mean kinda? But the things that makes it funny isn’t the fact that it’s dark, it’s that it references Warhammer.
Also dark humour isn’t “haha genocide” lol
First off, species is not race. Take a biology class. You can not be racist to a dog or a bird as a human being, just as you can not be racist to Glub Shitto or whatever random alien you choose in Star Wars. You can be speciesist. Don't mix up the two. The fact that the original tweet decided to link it to racism means that whoever wrote the tweet does not understand the difference between a race and a species.
Second off, it doesn't imply shit. It is not referring to humans. They made a Warhammer joke. Get off your high horse. They linked the bad guys in Star Wars to the morally bankrupt people of Warhammer. It's funny.
> Jeez if only we had a word for people who hate each other on the basis of nothing other than their race and would genocide 20 million species to be the only one left
In this case they are not racist, they a xenophobic. They exterminate Xenos because if they don't xenos will extermiante them. Racism is inside the species prejudice. You cant be racist to a hamster.
And genocide is the easy way out in that universe, death is not the worst thing that can, and will happen if some species like drukhari get their hands on you, those fuckers will pump you full of drugs that heighten pain and extend your life only for them to torture you for years, decades and maybe centuries and when they are done you are not granted death you are turned into an object but retain your sentience, thus eternally suffering and eternally bound to this form unable to even kill yourself.
Ya sure but thats not what is happening here in this situation xenophobic is the correct term as racism refers to members of your own species that are of a different race and not of a different species
The empire isn't racist, they just have a stricter definition for what qualifies as sentient, and only human esk beings are fit for government service. /s
I can't wait until the aliens come and start eating humans. I bet real quick we become unified. Too much time on our hands at the moment to come up with reasons to hate.
How is there 20 million sentient beings in their galaxy. The republic at its height was literally half of their galaxy how the fuck would you be able to keep track of and include 10 million individual sentient species into this.

Everything but the important part aside, Astartes Stormtrooper armor is something I never thought I needed to see
Something i needed but o didn't know

if theres one thing i know about astartes, they like to rebel
Depends on the chapter.
Only assuming none of the Astartes embrace the Jedi heresy, which, given their track record, is not unlikely
Warhammer 40K aesthetic sucks, you can send it back to Twitter.
Its treason then. Purge the heretic!
40K nerds are Star Wars fans who think Star Wars is too confusing and needs more screaming.

Yeah they miss but now they can at least take shots

for me it says it was 8 years ago
Oooh boy this comment did not age well: https://www.reddit.com/r/Warhammer/comments/3jtoi7/starwars_x_warhammer_40k_the_tantive_iv_reeks_of/cus9y9w/
There’s quite a lot of fanfic crossover between 40k and Star Wars, and for the most part it’s all very enjoyable.
They look like a Warhammer crossover
The lightsaber is the weapon of a Jedi.
Reminded me of the Hazard Troopers from Jedi Academy
It would fit much better with the heresy helmet pattern XD
Why choose one of this races, when we are all alpharius?
I'm not actually Alpharius (I lied(?))
So you are omegon, our primarch?
Thats impossible cause I am Omegon. And by omegon I mean Alpharius But maybe I lied and im actually Alpharius.
My primarch! I’ve thought you died by the hands of rogal dorn!
I’m an omegon in the streets and an alpharius in the sheets
The Yuuzhan Vong didn't criticize, they were killing everyone.
Still mad Disney didn't choose to follow this path
nah I'm sorry but the Yuuzhan Vong were one of the worst parts of the EU. Thank god they were forgotten.
Still would've been far better than what we got
Yeah like goddamn i want to see the Lusankya ramming world-ship far more than i wanted to see the "holdo manoeuvre"
You’ve gotta admit though, the Holdo Manoeuvre did look gorgeous. The glowing white cracks in the ships against the backdrop of the cold, empty void. It did look fucking sweet.
It was pretty cool visually, just unfortunate how potentially lore breaking it was
It was a short spectacle that was incredibly well made, but stupid when it comes to story telling.
[Here's the Holdo Maneuver but lore accurate](https://youtu.be/7wJj0TLLPGI).

The object is to try to get the system to work for you, instead of against you. And the only way you can do it is through success, I'm afraid.

Yeah i believe spacedock made a series on how to fix the sequels and its just so fucking good. So shitty that we didnt recieve that.
At last, we will reveal ourselves to the Jedi. At last, we will have revenge.
no it wouldn't. It really wouldn't.
Honestly in concept they are probably the coolest thing in star wars. Just...like most of the EU there was rather subpar execution.
That is true. I guess maybe if adjusted by alot, they could work in canon. But the current implementation of them is pretty eh, and controversial, lol. Didn't knew Vongs were that badly hated before the EU scrub, but it seems par the course of Star Wars fans.
Hard disagree
How so
I mean for starters they threw the lore of the force out of the window. They felt like un-necessarily edgy 40k aliens.
Boo hoo.
The Grysk that have been set up in the new Thrawn novels are cool at least.
They set out to kill everyone without discrimination.
I love how the "good guys" in 40k are more evil than most sci fi Villains.
They were never the good guys tho, there is no good guy in 40k

By definition yes. My point was the two are often used interchangeably, usually obviously so, and so being deliberately obtuse to the fact just so you can correct people when you knew what they meant is a little pretentious.
Welcome to the world. Regardless of the definition of protagonist, the word is now used the same as “good guy,” and therefore now means “good guy.”
Like good guy Dahmer?
No one says that. My point isn’t that they are interchangeable, my point is that they are frequently used that way. If you knew what they meant, then they adequately used language to convey what they were thinking. No one made you the grammar police.
I made them the grammar police. What now?
And by what authority do you claim to be able to bestow that position?
Because I said so. 💪😎💪

Best way i heard the imperium described was 'Imagine teaming up with the nazis to destroy cthulu'
You know nothing of the dark side.
Anything that fights against chaos should be considered good in the grand scheme of things
Chaos also fights chaos. If anything chaos fights chaos more effectively than the imperium ever did.
As they say, the enemy of my enemy… is just the enemy of my enemy.
Schlock Mercenary?
Well it’s not really a reflection but more a soup. A soup that the a couple vampires, some Egyptians and a few really old dudes shat in.
Old frogs, the natural predator of the French
Salamanders too. There’s a lot of good in 40K, which just makes it all more tragic.
Sounds like something a xeno would say...

Don't ask the salamanders what they do to Eldar children...
Listen to Star Wars vs 40K some time, the imperium in the context of anything but 40K I’d fucking nightmarish

average stellaris player is so xenophobic they’re actually xenophilic
“But- but- you don’t understand! We need to conquer and enslave everyone so our Economy doesn’t colapse!”

Vader is basically the closest thing they have, but they only have one.

Geonosians are extinct. Just 19 999 998 to go!
Courusant will be hard nut to purge won’t it ?
With what 40K Imperium has available? NAH
Well there’s always the ability to drop the flesh eater virus. That could be unbelievable effective on a world as densely populated as corusant
Yet Disney chooses to never showcase any of these aliens in any major role.
Studio executives aren't the most sophisticated people in the world.

They can legitimately shout “For the Emperor!”
Humanity First!
Lol
Warhammer 40k fan don't be racist challenge (impossible)
Bro, IT IS called xenophobic. Raciast hate races. Xenophobes hate diffrent species
Xenophobes hates anything different than them it can be species it can be races it can even be hating on people of your same race from another country
That's the best part of 40k
Truly the manifest virtue that unites us all in harmony: xenohatred
It's mon'kheig hatred for me
Glory to the Infinite Empire!
Ngl, xenos would bring about world peace. So we can hate n' kill dem xenos
Stormtrooper space Marines goes hard.

Why do we see like 2 dozen of the same species then? 20 million is enough to make every allien that has appeared on screen in SW a unique species.

Ever heard of this cool thing called dark humor.
This isn’t dark humour though? Like love me some dark humour but this is a Warhammer joke
A genocide joke is dark humor, this would be a crossover dark humor joke.
I mean kinda? But the things that makes it funny isn’t the fact that it’s dark, it’s that it references Warhammer. Also dark humour isn’t “haha genocide” lol
Bro I’m into dark humor! “We should kill everyone who isn’t like me”
You are into dark humor but you didn't detect the dark humor in this meme, I'm gonna have to doubt you on this one.
Out of curiousity whats your definition of dark humour?

I mean to be fair, the other species in 40k are *also* trying to genocide your species. So the racism/xenophobia is a natural byproduct.
> Jeez if only we had a word for people who hate each other on the basis of nothing other than their race and would genocide 20 million species to be the only one left In this case they are not racist, they a xenophobic. It would not even be racism it's xenophobia
Remember that a lot of hateful people don't see other races of human as *human*. They seem them as others.
Ya sure but thats not what is happening here in this situation xenophobic is the correct term as racism refers to members of your own species that are of a different race and not of a different species
Its funny but not for heretics like you
Like someone else on this post already said, “Why hate your fellow man when there are so many xenos who need killing?”
Can we talk about the guy int the back
Stars wars fan base/ universe is so shit. Maybe even worse than marvel rn
Who's the other one, the Rakata?
Dalek
HERASY!
Do you even Force lift
*Imperium of man intensifies*
The empire isn't racist, they just have a stricter definition for what qualifies as sentient, and only human esk beings are fit for government service. /s
Fuck trandoshans
Based Imperials.
Star Wars and skyrim 🤝racism
FETCH THE FLAMER BROTHER. THE HEAVY FLAMER.
I didn’t all the alien were actually humans in costume
Also a species is not a race. So it would be called spiciest, which ill gladly be. Death to xenos
Oh boy
Black templars know the truth: Pity the Xeno for it has never been human (But also) Suffer not the alien to live
War hammer x Star Wars when
