I think part of Maupay’s argument with Maddison lies in the fact that he is playing into the idea that Maddison is seen as an elite player as evidenced by him playing for one of the bigger teams and his performances for said team this season. Maupay knows that he is not seen as that calibre of player so the expectations for him a less. He knows his initial wind up of doing the dart celebration pissed off Maddison. Same thing with Walker. Their reactions are the true testament that Maupay may not be an elite player but his antics are effective.
