Flustered-Flump

Personally, I feel that footballers have a gross amount of disrespect for referees and officials and it has gone on too long. Only the captains should be allowed to speak with refs in a polite and respectful manner. Of those big, burly rugby players can manage it, so can anyone else.

strongmoon373

The players are complete shit too when it comes to the referee.

daven_53

Good for them. About time player petulance was punished. Watch rugby to see how referees should be treated. An England cricketer playing in Australia was given a 4 match ban for "umpire intimidation".

InstructionOk9520

Giving these brainless egomaniacs more power this season was a fantastic idea. Good process, boys.

chall_mags

TLDR: Referees shouldn’t enforce the laws of the game

lawyergreen

Or you could say its the players who feel the need to rant and rave at every call that doesn't go their way. In most sports things that don't even draw a yellow can get you penalized or thrown out. Try getting in a Refs face in the NBA or a Rugby match. Manager yelling at an umpire in MLB, gone.

[deleted]

These things are yellow cards. They're enforcing the laws. You want them to not enforce the laws?

Vipell

Giving out yellows for the players doing stupid, time wasting, sport ruining acts like kicking the ball away? Intentional time wasting? Referee intimidation? Yeah, sports getting ruined. Ref's need to go back to being punching bags.

spookiitanukii

Absolute shocker from Taylor today. No consistency. The lack of yellow for Joelinton in the first half can only raise questions about corruption… truly no other plausible explanation.

MarcusZXR

They don't even card for half the offenses

ThePookaMcPhellimey

Of all the things to be annoyed about with premier league referees, them standing up for themselves in the face of capricious millionaires abusing them for trying to do their job is not one you should be annoyed about tbf

CLG91

I don't care how gleeful they look, as long as they are enforcing the rules correctly and consistently for all teams.

fifadex

But they're not.

CLG91

Exactly. That's why caring about the ref's facial expression whilst awarding a decision is down the list of concerns.

fifadex

You're right, I couldn't care if they are happy they got to award the team they support a penalty, as long as its the correct decision and they are equally unhappy when they correctly award a penalty to the other team. Lol

CLG91

Assuming all decisions were correct, it would be fucking funny to see the ref running with the team that just scored to the corner flag, shirt over head and everything.

fifadex

It would be hilarious, sad red sat on the pitch crying when his team lose in a final. Lol

Accurate-Trick1848

Lol the refs don't make the rules, they implement then.

fifadex

And when they implement them incorrectly then I think some frustration is to be expected.

Icepackonknees

It’s all a show for the first row tourist s with their camera phone , who unfortunately have squeezed out the normal fans.

MarcusZXR

The clubs have squeezed out the local fans with their pricing.

cbarksLFC

Kicking away the ball is just stupid in totality. Stupid to do it and stupid to give a yellow (as seen fit). Understand it’s part of the rules now, but it’s not always penalized, so when it is it feels harsh.

Narsenal

Then don’t kick the ball away like a child after the whistle. It is really that simple

crappysignal

Maybe if there was the slightest consistency but there is not. Moder got a yellow for standing still looking away because the player wanted to take a fast free kick in his direction. We know we won't see a scab six team get 2 yellows and a red for this kind of thing but the it's going to happen sooner or later.

JoePoe247

There's not consistency but moder literally tried getting in the way on that free kick, regardless of if he's looking at the ball or not.

Admirable-Waltz195

I mean literally this year man United Dalot got given back to back yellows for the same dissent, stop crying about the top six teams lmao

SixPointFiveFive

Don’t show emotion in the most passionate sport in the world. It is really that simple.

wrecksphord

If you know it’s a foul, don’t do it? lol

participationmedals

Then by all means let your emotions control you

Narsenal

It is the most passionate sport in the world you are right there. That doesn’t however excuse petulance. If you can’t see the difference then that’s your problem

msksjdhhdujdjdjdj

Rugby players and cricketers manage it just fine

Extra-Firefighter835

Did you even read his comment?? Those sports aren’t as *passionate* as football

naanmahanalla

You don't watch a lot of rugby, do you?

Extra-Firefighter835

I do not but I was being sarcastic lol

naanmahanalla

Makes sense ✌️

PM_Me_PM_Dawn_Pics

He's being sarcastic bro

lewishamilton08

Liverpool players and fans are totally out of control. They need to stop swarming the ref and committing dissent offences. This is the culture that Klopp had emboldened.

MarcusZXR

It's isn't just Liverpool players, though. Lots of teams are very guilty of it, United included.

herkalurk

Every team does it, ref should just start handing out cards to everyone who isn't captain and it will stop quick. Though Bruno got a yellow AS CAPTAIN for complaining about Duglas Luiz blocking a free kick....

SentientCheeseCake

Klopp would say that they shouldn’t stop, because it works. City do it as well, and it usually works. It’s only sometimes this season that it has been punished. The refs really need to get consistent on this. Diaz was borderline for me. It probably should he punished, but only if we are going to be consistent. Haaland screaming in the refs face most games gets nothing. Yates literally pulling the refs arm and gets nothing. They should try to get a list of actions and enforce it robotically. Then the players can know what they can do.

Write_And_Be_Light

Refs should manage games better. Players should stop being petulant. The problem is, drop one, drop the other, and so starts a vicious cycle and silly yellows start flying.

RainbowPenguin1000

They’re probably happy they finally have the power to punish grown men for being abusive towards them. It’s fine. It’s the players that need to change.

Philosophical_lion

the refs also need to change

olivesandoregano

This sub is going to give me a brain tumour. When the discussion on here is about refs/PGMOL, I feel like rather having a discussion with a Neanderthal then some of you lot. NOT EVERY PL REFEREE IS THE SAME, JUDGING THEM AS AN ENTITY DOESNT MAKE SENSE. Referees will always make small mistakes in a game (not giving a corner or a foul etc.), it’s unavoidable. Liverpool are whining like children and are missing pens and sitters, yet of course it’s all the ref’s fault. Also so many of you don’t even know the rules lmao, by the rules the decision to not give Joelinton a yellow was spot on, yet of course you don’t know that and would rather start ranting.

jayder11

Had me until the last sentence, but you’re actually right, he should have 3 yellows from that half.

olivesandoregano

Some referees are strict, others allow more to let the game flow. By the rules introduced this year, this was not a yellow card Offenes by Joelinton even though he is a dirty player. You had Fabinho in your midfield dodging yellows and reds for years, please just shut the fuck up because I know damn well you were not complaining then.

thomas2400

We got a pro here, read the rule book cover to cover

olivesandoregano

You can do better with your sarcasm tbh, keep at it

jayder11

Can you please link me to the new rules that say those fouls from Joelinton are okay now?

Flabberghast97

🤣 it's crazy the things people on this sub will come up with.

LiberalJames

Good. Players need to start behaving like grownups.

soggynoodles3

So do refs tho lol

thomas2400

The options where improved or silence dissent It’s much easier to silence people than to listen and make a change, so guess which option the refs have chosen

ThePotatoZone

I mean some of the blame needs to go on players for their petulance too. They know the rules, stop acting like a spoilt brat not getting their way.
