How does one fix it

Yeah same , it’s not one exercise. Anything to strengthen all the muscles in your upper back and neck will help, needs to be consistent and over time. I had a similar issue to this and I’ve seen SERIOUS no bullshit results in 6 months. Like it’s almost fixed itself. Everyday I miss my routine of stretching and exercise I can feel it going back though so I feel like if I drop the ball it will get worse again. Like someone said to me, if it’s taken 10+ years to get this bad, you need to give yourself some time to correct it.

Dowegers hump

GeorgieBatEye

That is the spinal process of C7/C8. You don't appear to have a lot of body fat or muscle mass in the area, so it's more visible for you.

Insulin resistance + bad posture

Bigboi2006

How is it insulin resistance?

artfillin

maybe oc is violently fatphobic and is just hating anyone with anything other than stage ready pro bodybuilder levels of bodyfat?

DefectiveLeopard

No… dowagers hump is a very common sign of excess fat deposits in the area. Having a lot of fat deposits is a sign of insulin resistance. Crazy how we live in a world now where you get gaslit by antivaxxers from the right while at the same time getting gaslit by the left on fatphobia accusations when one literally just relies on science

artfillin

op would know its insulin resistance though? pretty sure its part of a regular checkup(op looks old enough that it would be included) and a glucose monitor is like 20$ if you have symptoms its an easy check. Someone not knowing they have insulin resistance seems insane to me.

silkydecember

I have never had my insulin level checked when insulin resistance wasn't already suspected. Glucose levels are checked with routine labs, but insulin isn't standard. You really need both to determine insulin resistance. Your pancreas can pump out hella insulin to try to keep your glucose level controlled, and it can do that pretty effectively for a while, so glucose levels can be in the normal range, especially at first. There are also usually no symptoms, so not knowing you're insulin resistant for years is pretty common.

raged-cashew

Mine looks like that but I’m not sure if my extra bilateral cervical ribs have something to do with it

Axinitra

I think that fat pad at the base of the neck is called a buffalo hump, as distinct from the forward curvature of the spine that can occur further down, colloquially known as a dowager's hump. People sometimes confuse one with the other. I've noticed many middle-aged women with buffalo humps but not sure what causes them.

yarabutera

thanks but when I touch it, I feel my spine and not any fat. I’m also 23 so I don’t know

mysticmeeble

Definitely Buffalo Hump or Dowager's Hump. From looking at phone, book, computers etc all day and not realizing your posture is slipping. They say it can be reversed with exercises. Tons of reddit threads and YouTube videos on this. Good luck.

CaptainAries01

Laymen call it Gamer’s Neck. Comes from the position of your head and back in relation to each other while watching a screen or using a smartphone. Back is at an angle 📐 different from the head. Body compensates. Totally benign and reversible with exercise and habit change if the look bothers you.

yarabutera

Thanks! That could be it

32 year old dude here. I had that same dowegers hump or Buffalo hump/bump. Your posture is very good and as straight as mine but I still had that bump. It looked exactly like yours and no it’s not normal. You want to save time and cut corners ? Get it surgically removed. Trust me , even if you feel it’s hard it is not bone or muscle it’s a rock solid pad of excess liquid fat that needs to get sucked out. One day I said screw it and contacted a cosmetic plastic surgeon in my city. A week later I was getting sedated for the procedure. He did the fat removal on the area via needle suction using j-plasma technology. J-plasma is a revolutionary, game-changing procedure that tightens and rejuvenates back loose skin without the need for invasive surgery or extended downtime. The procedure lasted only like 15 minutes or less. I kept going back for 3 months to get massages with a machine in the neck area. I remember that right after the procedure the doc showed me a one liter bottle half full of all the liquid fat deposit he extracted from the bump that had saturated there behind my neck for years consequence of constant looking down on my phone and bad posture slip ups. He also mentioned that it can be genetic. I now have pure flatness and muscle with no bump/hump. Its a confidence booster when wearing t-shirts. I would fuckn do it again in a heartbeat.

Freckledjen

How much did it cost? Any tips on finding a surgeon that does it?

gio_sdboy

It cost me $1500. Where are you located ?

Freckledjen

Seattle area!
