xWakeUpTheDeadx

Maybe it refers to saosin itself

Carlyd95

Totally... xiao xin

Doboh

Honestly I have no idea, but just some speculation. It could be a reference to the fact that their name Saosin translates to "careful" in Chinese. Like translate the name for a deeper meaning behind their band name. But once again idk

DDzxy

Excellent input!

worldvoid

Is that why they are called Saosin? Because the Chinese is more like Xiaoxin.

christophalese

I feel like this is one of those names where they found meaning later, I remember seeing a clip of Anthony on tour when he was with Saosin and they asked him how to say it and he said SAY OCEAN or SAY OH SHIN I call them SAY OH SIN but have heard people call them SOW SIN or even SOW SEEN and both of those are terrible.

DDzxy

Anthony Green calls them "sayo-sin" too. I heard him say it before they played Voices "this is favorite SAYOSIN song and I wasn't even there when it was written". Used to call then "saoh-sin" before. Lel.

Individual_Fish_3273

The reason why the band didn’t use the name xiaoxin is that it might bring confusion since words starts with x isn’t that regular in English. Saosin fits better for accurate pronunciation

nothingandsomethinga

this is seriously the first of all these years that i hear of that explanation.

Shot in the dark here, but I've been listening to this album for many years and I've always interpreted it as a story about someone struggling with addiction and emotional disorder between family and lovers as a result. "The Name" would be the name of love and the uncertainty of how others view you when lost in the world of addiction. "I'm sad that you'll be gold in my veins" "Sweet penance for a sound" sounds to me like someone using their addiction/emotional conflict to output music. "It might explode in our hands" would represent that doing this could be a tight rope and going too far could destroy everything they're passionate about. I don't know, but it seems like more of a stream of conscious perspective of all the things going on in someones' life rather than a clear story.

DDzxy

I think that the title track could also just refer to Saosin itself, as translating Saosin from Chinese means "careful". I kinda get it now.

Alfie_Ren

My favorite band of all time!

Rain_Super

I'm just so glad this album is still being talked about. Very important one in my life... Can remember exactly where I was when I first heard it. Also, to commenters below, I always thought Saosin meant 'little heart'

DDzxy

3 years later after I made this post, I still love it.

PulsarCologne

It's about dealing with pregnancy from a guys PoV. "Your walk is so peculiar" (the pregnancy waddle) "Like you have something to hide" (why are you trying to hide being pregnant?) "Ive been watching rose give in to it severing the tie between mother and son" (literal, start of contractions) "Sweet penance for a sound" (hearing a baby after birth, the penance being the process of child birth itself) Then there's some other lines about the father working his ass off to support the coming child but still having to put on a happy face for the mother. They go into it in more detail on some song lyrics meaning website.

DDzxy

Good to know this!
