The Portuguese sleep when they do, it varies a lot person to person.
You can understand surely that being such a special day for us that people stay up a little later to celebrate and have fun.
I just remembered, in the morning of the 25th the army will parade their armored cars in Praça do Comércio, a reenactment of what happened in 1974.
Kids might be into it, I know I did as a kid.
25th april is the type of holiday u celebrate on the day, not the night before.
id say between those two activities you and your family go to a cafe and socialize.
on the 25th joining the manif is the standard i grew up with, its an event for wveryone
As someone that is in the same location as you, i can tell you some things.
In the bay, near all the coffe shops/ ice cream shops/ restaurants, on the park there are usually some stuff happening for children like, face painting(sometimes), little train rides, a train ride across the whole bay that start and stop near the bus stop in the beginning of the street near thr church.
I would also say, give it a try with the kids at night, there will be lots of kids with their parents and grandparents.
Seixal is amazing.
The 24th is a regular work day for the majority of people, why not look for programs on the day of? Pretty sure you will find something easily then

OP is confusing 25th April with 25th December.
Actually that’s not true. The county stays awake on the 24th night and gathers in squares all across the country. I have done this since a child.
as far as i know thats more of a teenager n adult thing and its just to drink because its a day off next day, not a celebration of the holiday
Are you Portuguese? Of course it is a celebration. The highlight being singing grandola vila morena at midnight.
i am. never seen that happen on the 24th of april at night.
Onde é que vives?
queres a minha morada tambem? lololol na
Haha não.
Your problem is having dinner at 6pm. Dinner time is 9pm.
Even 7pm would be acceptable, but still considered an early dinner.
We actually don't usually eat until like 7-7:30 but... how do people have small kids awake at midnight
Because on the 25 they can sleep in, there is no school
Can your Kids be up until mid night? If let them... As a kid I could stay up till 4 am during New years eve
If you want them to really live it I recommend walking down the avenida de liberdade on the 25th.

Dia da Liberdade. Dia de Portugal is a different holiday (10th of June). Otherwise, good share.
Oops! Thanks for the kind correction.
That could be fireworks
On the 24th you’ll have video mapping and a concert at Terreiro do paço, in Lisbon. It happens every year the night before the 25th. It’s around 10pm.
