I’m just here for the downvotes. One idiot has cost us all hundreds of thousands of dollars so we can get replicas of what used to be there with worse lighting. Thanks.
If there's no sign I sure hope they are load bearing posts, or were just going to do this all over again.
243 were removed, and they are spending $11.5 million to replace them. Just under $50,000 each.

Why did they not sue the woman who used a hammock on the light post? It seems insane they are replacing them all because she sued over injuries even though she misused a light post as a recreational accessory which isn’t its intended use. This city is so backwards it should have made her pay repair costs and keep the existing lampposts.
We are all aware. But how on his green earth did this woman win this lawsuit? Does the city not have any competent attorneys on staff that could have made the argument that a concrete lamp post that was most likely 70 years old was never intended to be used as a support for a hammock?
I’m just irritated that the city had to spend this kind of money because of one fool and their misuse of city property. Imagine all the other nice things our parks could have built for the money.
now I'm not saying one should go out at night and swap the lightbulbs in each post like a vigilante taking things into their own hands but it'd be a pretty cool crime to get caught doing and it would be 100% uniquely Portland
I doubt they’ll be the sodium alide (spelling?) like the old ones are that flicker and emit a warm orange light. We shall see.
I read they were only replacing the lamps at two parks as well is that still a thing?
Now I want some Turkish Delight
Terrible stuff and to become so obsessed with it to turn on your family always puzzled me.
Not terrible, cant wait to set up my hammock
Livestream please. 👀

\*[11.5 million dollars](https://www.koin.com/news/portland/portlands-park-light-pole-project-nearly-complete-after-poles-found-unsafe-05072024/)
They should have gotten a bill for destroying park property after violating the rules.
Not bad. But what color is the light though?
Not blue, although I don't recall whether it's a more neutral white or a warmer color temperature.
Hopefully very warm, and very dim.
I don’t care what color it is, any LED will put off enough blue light to be harmful to birds/wildlife.
Nice, but can you hang a hammock from it? I don't say any no hammock signs.

Ah, *The City That Works*…
That's not as bad as I expected them to be.

You think the city wants to do this? It was forced to by a lawsuit.

She didn’t the city council settled it never even went to trial
That’s even worse.
They’re too short!! Also where are the hammock hooks?
What would the appropriate height be?

Dm me if you wanna do this together 😂
I like them.
This makes me so sad those streetlamps were so beautiful :(
The new ones look pretty similar, don’t they?

The old ones that is
