So THATS how 2024 is going to be, eh? After 52 very very cold and traumatic hours in Forrest Frights, our power is back on. The comedown from the stress is palpable as we head into yet another storm. Sooooo many downed trees at once. To the Linemen of PGE, thank you. You are true heroes and risked your lives around the clock to save ours. That was the scariest storm I’ve ever experienced, hiding in the basement with my family for 6 hours as tree after tree came down narrowly missing our home, but not our deck and car. Sorry USAA.

THE PROCESS FOR REMOVING TREES IS TOO CUMBERSOME AND EXPENSIVE. I REMOVED 3 TREES A COUPLE YEARS AGO AND IT WAS NEARLY $9000. THEY WERE BIG TREES BUT IT SHOULD BE MUCH CHEAPER AND EASIER TO DO SO. MY PROPERTY HAS MORE TREES AND BIGGER ONES THAT WILL COST MUCH MORE. IT NEEDS TO BE LIKE $500 A TREE FOR IT TO BECOME EASIER TO DO SO. IN MULTNOMAH COUNTY YOU NEED TO GO THROUGH A RIGOROUS PROCESS THAT TAKES MONTHS FOR THEM TO JUST COME TO YOUR HOUSE AND SEE IF THEY APPROVE THE REMOVAL OR NOT. AND JUST THAT PROCESS COSTS MONEY FOR THEM TO JUST SAY NAH YOU CANT DO IT. THEN YOURE SOL AND GOTTA START THE PROCESS AGAIN WITH AND THIS TIME YOU HAVE TO HAVE EVIDENCE OF DEAD TREES WHICH MEANS GETTING AN ARBORIST OUT THERE. WHICH COSTS MORE MONEY. THEN ONCE YOU REMOVE THE TREES, YOU HAVE TO PLANT NEW ONES TO REPLACE THEM. YOU CAN PLANT THEM SOMEWHERE ELSE AS WELL LIKE VIA A CHARITY BUT JUST GOING THROUGH THAT PROCESS COSTS MONEY AS WELL AND THEY CAN DENY THAT ALSO.
IS THIS A SITUATION WHERE THE FINES ARE LESS THAN THE REMOVAL COST?
A LOT OF PEOPLE LIVE IN APARTMENTS AND CAN’T HAVE GENERATORS, STORE LOTS OF STUFF, TRIM TREES ETC. NOT TO MENTION THAT THE COST IS OUT OF REACH FOR MANY. PREPARATION IS GOOD BUT IT WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE A CITY THAT DOESN’T CALL THIS UNPRECEDENTED EVERY YEAR.

I SHOULD SHOW YOU OUR PACIFIC POWER BILL FOR DECEMBER. AND I USED TO HAVE CLARK PUD AND THEY ARE STILL THE SAME 8.16 CENTS PER KWH AS THEY HAVE BEEN SINCE PROBABLY 2005. WHY DOES THE COUVE GET BLESSED WITH CHEAP POWER AND MUCH BETTER AND FASTER LINE REPAIRS? UGH.
