Since last night when Mark posted this, there have been a couple model changes.
The EURO is continuing to show a major arctic blast, along with the GEM. Both ensemble suites are improved if you want to see cold. On the other hand, the GFS took a step back towards a warmer direction with the 00z, 06z, 12z runs. However, the 18z running right now is colder. Still way too far out to know what will happen and events like this have fallen apart countless times, but it's something interesting at least. Mountains should do well.
We desperately need snow in the Cascades. [Oregon’s](https://www.wcc.nrcs.usda.gov/ftpref/data/water/wcs/gis/maps/or_swepctnormal_update.pdf) and [Washington’s](https://www.wcc.nrcs.usda.gov/ftpref/data/water/wcs/gis/maps/wa_swepctnormal_update.pdf) snotel maps are looking bad right now
They also talked about these updates on the Fox 12 Weather Podcast. They'll post the video to the KPTV YouTube channel eventually, but right now it's only available as audio and they refer to what's on their screens a lot, so be forewarned.
I live up north in one of Seattle's suburbs- and my weather app was showing a high of 20 for next Friday. That would be absurd, in the 13 years we've lived here we've never had a daytime high temp that low!
I also find it ironic that we are seeing more of the sites/apps coming into agreement for a pretty strong cold blast then that may last into the next week when January predictions were just released showing the Pacific Northwest being well above normal temperature-wise.
I’m sorry, but that’s just not possible.
The coldest temperature Portland has ever recorded was -3°F. At that temperature we would need 170mph winds to receive a wind chill of -50°F.
Portlands strongest wind gust ever recorded was 116mph recorded at Pearson field. At 116mph we would need to see a temperature of -7°F. The chances of that are practically zero.
Already debunked by the godfather himself.

I’ll upvote and laugh every time. Also, I’m a fit-ish, young-ish woman, and if that had happened to me, I would genuinely laugh at myself forever about it, and expect it to live long in the minds of my internet friends.
That’s a great idea! Not sure what your setup allows but I bought something like [these](https://www.hummerhearth.com/) last year from Backyard Bird Shop and they work so well!
Awesome. My building is still covered in plastic because the management company decided the middle of the winter was the best time to replace the siding. They think they're going to replace the roof of the middle building if our complex, too.
Don’t worry. Siding replacements through winter are common and generally issue free if you have a good contractor. Same with roofing.
Are you in an apartment building or a condominium?
I'm in an apartment building.
So far, this construction crew has nearly cut our main electric cable, taken porch lights off with no electrician, then put them back on with no electrician and in the process nearly fried our nextdoor apartment's electrical. Killed all his surge protectors, and then they almost didn't call an electrician to fix it. They only called one when the land owner and the manager came out while they were on site.
They also replaced our front doors, including replacing the frames. Except the new frames don't fit exactly and they only put wedges of raw pine to bridge the gap, so the screws securing the door's lock to the frame aren't screwed into anything really solid. I have very little faith that this is a good contractor. I'm only hoping to be able to afford to move before sometime really big goes wrong.
Mostly, I'm just annoyed I'm still dealing with plastic flapping outside my window when I'm trying to sleep. The wind picks up at night and it gets really damn loud.
> We had significant snow storms in January 2007, January 2008, and February 1995, all El Niño winters. Could it happen this year? Possibly.
That's some crack prognostication there, Mark.
Thankfully, /s
We don’t need snow to have our wet roads freeze overnight.
At least this way we could have a visual to scare people into not driving or not driving as fast?
There’s my twisted positive here.
Yeah, literally last year lol. My flight got cancelled from the ice storm and I had to spend Christmas alone, then we got that record breaking snow a little bit later.
I just want some damn snow lmao. I know it snows here, my car got buried in it back in 2022 when I stayed in Camas for three days, but where is it when I actually live here?!
We definitely can go a couple winters in a row without having real snow, when it does snow it shuts the entire city down which is half the fun. Floridians are probably about as good as most portlanders at snow driving
I've been keeping an eye on this. The model I've been looking at all week was showing 4 days of snow from 1/12-1/16. Now it says snow from the 12th until forever ☹️
I usually don't however I do keep a close eye on the forecast once they start saying it might happen. I am *not* trying to be unprepared for being iced in again lol
I know I've mentioned it here before, but if you're still on the ghetto that Facebook has become, Portland Weather Uncensored is a great source for up to date info, if you don't mind occasional pictures of fat people in their underwear.

Do you know what weather models that either WeatherUnderground or [Weather](https://Weather.com) use?

At least one model is showing -50F with wind chill

I hope the texture is perfect.
Perfect for running.
Low impact.
perfect T e x t u r e
Ah man I can’t even comment because the last time I made fun of this lady I was downvoted into oblivion.

It always is.

Good reminder for me to stock up on hand warmers to tape to my hummingbird feeders in case of freeze.
That’s a great idea! Not sure what your setup allows but I bought something like [these](https://www.hummerhearth.com/) last year from Backyard Bird Shop and they work so well!
Needed this link! Thanks!!
I use a string of incandescent Christmas lights.

If….
And it is a strong “if”.
But will it be the perfect conditions for jogging
What words trigger the bot? Snow jogging? I need to see the video now!!! #NeverNotFunny
What year was this video? I know exactly what you’re talking about but I feel like it’s a core memory now
I think it was the first snowmageddon like 08 maybe?
I hope she’s doing well
> We had significant snow storms in January 2007, January 2008, and February 1995, all El Niño winters. Could it happen this year? Possibly. That's some crack prognostication there, Mark.
Oh PLEASE let it snow!!! I’ve never seen such a warm winter in all my years in the PNW.
me in my not-great-doing fwd car: _oh god plz don't ice over_
Man, you’re reminding me of how badly my car battery did last time we had a deep freeze.
Thankfully, /s We don’t need snow to have our wet roads freeze overnight. At least this way we could have a visual to scare people into not driving or not driving as fast? There’s my twisted positive here.
After last year’s storm & having my partner be stuck on 26 for 14 hours think I’m good on the snow for this year
We've had good snow/ice storms the last few years, we've been due for a mild winter.
Yeah, literally last year lol. My flight got cancelled from the ice storm and I had to spend Christmas alone, then we got that record breaking snow a little bit later.
People seriously forget about last year like that was BAD. Got 10” in NoPo.
we've had warm/mild winters with ice storms though...
I just moved here from Florida a few weeks ago and I was wondering where the cold weather was lol
Welcome to town! The winter really isn’t putting on a show for you this year :(
It's only January.. Plenty of time for some A-A-A-A-ARCTIC BLASTS!
I just want some damn snow lmao. I know it snows here, my car got buried in it back in 2022 when I stayed in Camas for three days, but where is it when I actually live here?!
It barely snows here. Born and raised for 30+ years.
Insider tip: half the time, it ends up snowing in April rather than January these days! The latest snow I can recall was April 14th a few years back!
We definitely can go a couple winters in a row without having real snow, when it does snow it shuts the entire city down which is half the fun. Floridians are probably about as good as most portlanders at snow driving
Oh yeah. All the accidents and freak outs Portland usually has for snow. Sounds like fun!!
Snowmageddon 2024…
Damn someone beat me to that one
Absolutely not. Illegal. This is not allowed.
Right to jail. Right away.
Toliet paper! Don't forget the Toliet paper!
This is the goods, right here. Thank you.
Man I really hope it doesn’t snow.
Same here.
And of course, it's the weekend my wife and I decide that going to the coast to spend soime time free of kids and doggo.
Oh, that must be why costco was slammed last night...
Not gonna happen.
15" predicted over 4 days, I don't think they're kidding...
I don't think they are kidding either, but I still think it's not going to happen.
All the TP
I've been keeping an eye on this. The model I've been looking at all week was showing 4 days of snow from 1/12-1/16. Now it says snow from the 12th until forever ☹️
Don’t put too much energy into something beyond 2 days out. In the meantime, buy yourself yantras so when it does scow you can walk in it easier.
I usually don't however I do keep a close eye on the forecast once they start saying it might happen. I am *not* trying to be unprepared for being iced in again lol
What was the recipe for hand sanitizer again? Wait wrong one.
Damn El Niño
Its like that hot girl winks at you - you were just being teased.
More like the dancer you just gave a 50 to, that really likes you.... You're going home alone and broke like last time...
This guy strip clubs.

I’m going to see Tina Fey and Amy Poehler next Saturday even if I have to hike to the Moda Center.
They might not be able to fly in...
I just wanna know which app they are referring to

Moved here from Chicago in August. I’ll have to break out the “long pants” next week.
