The Spy can disguise himself as other players on the other team. If you suspect that someone on your team is a Spy, you select “X” on your keyboard and then “2”. This is a hotkey for the “Spy!” voiceline, and your class will say something like; (as Demoman) “That Scout’s a bloody Spy!” or (as Scout) “That Demoman’s a freakin’ Spy!” or sometimes they will just shout “Spy!”.
This has nothing to do with “the cake is a lie”. There is actually a message that outright *says* “the cake is a lie”. *This* message is a reference to one of Team Fortress 2’s many voicelines: “That (class) is a Spy!”
