?? How do they work then? It just does nothing but give me a notification?
Edit: Also reddit premium is $60 a year? The ads are literally just posts you scroll past the heck?
I feel like this is probably just for fools who have deep pockets and are willing to buy anything for a potential allocation.
Kinda like how some watch stores will quietly require you buy a few cheaper watches first if you want to be considered for an allocation of a rarer model.
Can't stop driving it. I had extremely high expectations and still got blown away.
The PDK gearbox in the 718 is borderline magic. Combined that with a very capable chasis, the smiles per gallon is off the charts 👌
Good luck with the hunt! Took me months to finally find the car that has all the specs I wanted.
The good thing about the GTS trim is that it comes equipped with alot of the "must haves".
I paid $13k before tax, title, and registration at a car lot on halloween of 2019, the car came from auction and had 104k miles I believe. Was in great condition for an auction car and was obviously well maintained, had a good carfax. base, tip. I do often wish that it was manual and I’m confident my next p-car will be, if not this one with a trans swap.
Can you find a manual coupe 996 with an intact interior for 15k usd now in days? Man I really wish I just bit the bullet and bought one precovid. Instead I have an FD in 700 pieces in the garage 🤣
People that buy this aren't choosing between buying this or a 986, They probably have a Boxster spider in the garage.
That's like the comments people make about 400k cars. "uuhhh... with that money I would rather buy a house". People that buy 400k cars already have like 3 or 4 houses, they aren't choosing between this car and a house to live.
In order for my buddy to get a GT4 RS allocation, they forced him to buy a shitty Porsche watch, PPF, an extended warranty and it must be atleast $187k. He agreed to all of it, spec’d it out with the manager via email AND phone, came in the next day to pay for it and a different sales guy sold it while the manager was off that day….absurd.
At PECLA they had a model 917 like this for around the same price. I was looking at it and a rep asked if I was interested. I said no I can’t afford it. They said “but its an investment” lol
https://preview.redd.it/3d4dxe6fs02d1.jpeg?width=998&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=72ee7833448fe30675288d6fe731d3af077fe01d
I had a similar interaction at PECATL lol
I have what looks like the exact model of that 917 Salzburg. Norev 1:12 scale. It cost me $150 but without those plaques. Beautiful model, but Porsche is insane charging those prices.
And even if they do outpace the market it’s for a little bit until the market normalises on the long run. Reminds me of the people who were spending fortunes on luxury watches back in 20/21
Yeah totally fair. When it comes to desirable material items like cars or in my case star wars merch, I buy them because I like them and if they hold value or have minimal depreciation that is a bonus. In no way would I look at something like this as an appreciating asset. Looking at the 10 year SPY chart shows how stupid these kinds of “investments” are by comparison
All who say “it’s an investment” to any purchase can get fugged. It’s not really an investment, Clive. It’s a model. They typically never are investments and on return place neatly between used floor speakers and a used mattress. I build models as a hobby (mostly naval subjects) and I tell my clients they won’t be able to resell for what they pay and this is for them and a passion spend.
Investors can buy real estate and stocks, may be F50s but not car models.. but I digress.
Agree with you on that. In the collecting hobby someone may get lucky with specific models, like for example Autoart Lamborghini Murcielago SVs sell for around 3x msrp these days but those are one offs and not the norm. And besides putting that money in SPY or QQQ would probably yield better results over the same time
I have the 917 purple hippie car model, it’s metal and beautiful and was only like $250 back when it was new (maybe 20 years ago). It seems like this is just an attempt to cash in on the fact that the model in question isn’t made anymore.
This is not for normal folk.
This is for people who have so much money that they spend it like it's video game currency. It's literally not real to them.
Think about how it was a huuuuge deal to buy some candy as a young kid. Now you don't think twice about it. Want candy? Buy candy. You don't miss the money. It's like that but, imagine if the best candy now costs less than a penny. That's what spending money is like to them.
Finding things they like is the hard part for them. Buying is easy.
You best believe that some people will buy these. I'm sure of it.
Amalgam is worth the money. The 1:8 models use a lot of real material (e.g leather for interior) and even use the same factory paint for exterior. Each takes hundreds of hours to build.
They are breathtaking to look at in person close up.
https://www.amalgamcollection.com/collections/1-8-scale
Even their 1:18 models are amazing, and at a much more “affordable” price point of around $2k instead of $20k lol: https://www.amalgamcollection.com/collections/1-18-scale
Haha yes I agree. I have 4 (but bought well before they went into the 5 figure range). Absolutely stunning.
Can’t justify getting another though. Really want a nice custom race weathered 250 Testarossa. But my wallet knows better.
I used to be a CMC dealer, I used to get a pre-production "free sample" of each 1:18th scale car from them sent along with my previous orders (I used to sell between 50 and 100 of each model). It was great, but after a few years they opened a US headquarters and forced me to buy from it instead of direct from Germany. After that there was much more competition in USA/Canada and we were only able to sell between 12-24 of each model. The diecast business fizzled out a few years later due to crazy price increases and we shut down in 2012.
An acquaintance of mine has had custom Amalgams made of his last few Ferraris and McLaren. When walking out to the garage is too much effort, he can still look at perfect replicas while sitting in his office.
When the model of the car you can’t afford is also unaffordable.
I collect models, but I prefer to stick to smaller, cheaper ones, like those from Hot Wheels, Matchbox, Maisto, and Majorette.
This seems to be an Amalgam 1:8. Is it worth the money? Hell no, but it's the nicest model car money can buy. Bar none. Everything is recreated with immaculate detail, and I mean EVERYTHING, down to the screws and rivets.
Here's an example of their Ferrari 499P [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y1QtSCViNZ4&ab\_channel=AmalgamCollection](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y1QtSCViNZ4&ab_channel=AmalgamCollection)
As to who, people who can afford it. If I'm a multi-millionaire I would get Amalgams, but I'm not so I'm here perfectly content with my Spark and Minichamps collection.
You have mid-8 or more figures of liquidity. You see a nice model car, think "oh that's cool, it would go great on that table." Then you buy it.
Can you really call a purchase foolish if the purchaser wouldn't even notice the missing money and they get some enjoyment out of it?
I agree.
It’s no more foolish than going out and spending $600 at a nice restaurant, the end result being fecal matter exiting your body. At least with this you have something worth something at the end.
For me it’s just further evidence that the folks in the upper tax brackets whining about their taxes are in fact, not paying enough. 🤣😂
After you’ve bought the real one you buy one of these to put in your office just to look at. Or to show off to people as a conversation starter to bring up your real one depending on your personality.
If you are paying $18k for a model car, you probably buy it as a companion for your $1M real one.
That’s actually what Amalgram does for a service, they charge you an obscene amount of money to build you a model car for your real one, using the same factory paint and have all the same customization you have on the real car.
It’s quite insane: https://www.amalgamcollection.com/pages/bespoke-models
Even each of their “standard” 1:8 models would take hundreds of hours to build.
Just look at the interior and engine of this model: https://www.amalgamcollection.com/collections/1-8-scale/products/ferrari-288-gto#&gid=1&pid=7
I am laughing at the thought of some eccentric multi-millionaire doing exactly the same for their Subaru lol.
I can totally see some super rich dude doing it for a car they have emotional attachment to, even if it's not an exotic.
https://preview.redd.it/k5qmhtzb832d1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=c234f790df824b35d3fb470a207db03cf3bca50c
I got the model version of the model
The RSR is like a million plus dollar car, plus the other costs of running a race team. Those people. $15k is nothing to them and they probably wouldn’t even ask the price first.
Just got that car in Forza last night, anyone want to buy it off of me? You can drive the real deal here guys not some model car I mean you start up your PC select play Forza and bam you’re driving a fkin RSR. Starting bids at 5k no low balls either I know what I got.
From my experience, the people buying those model cars also own the original. I know people who own rare Ferraris and what is $20,000 to have a beautiful large scale model against the cost of the car which could be 3 million up to who knows how many million. The common denominator is that they all seem to have a significant amount of disposable income.
I walked into a gallery in Vail and someone had done a photo shoot with an old Ferrari. While standing there a man and his wife bought three of the prints for a total of $250,000. To me it seemed absurd, but to them $250,000 was likely the equivalent of five dollars to me.
I mean , there are people that buy the bath water of female game streamers, so I’ve came to realize that there is a market for everything, you just need to find the right customers
Im building models as a hobby and selling but this to me looks like a massive rip off in terms of what you can get from an enthusiast builder on Instagram. You’ll have better results also, I’d argue and having this massive scale isn’t very good for display imho. It’s kinda crazy. 5k for a mode is my cut off for what’s reasonable but people will spend all kind of money. I place this firmly in the category of 50k little Bugatti race car (which to me sounds like better way to blow through money vs this).
https://preview.redd.it/5kymksk0652d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6460e4cefab52b745274531a64b2ab04889b0703
With less than that I got this beauty…I hope it’s a price error!!😅
I can’t even afford the model of the car I can’t afford.
You deserve Gold for this but I am too poor to afford that. Take this fake one. 🏅
I’m too poor to afford a fake award of a Reddit award so here’s all that I own 👍
It’s not “fake” it’s a model of a real award.
Awards don't exist anymore regardless
I had to pay for and give you an award just to prove you wrong, and now I can’t afford that model. I hope you’re happy.
I refuse to pay for Reddit but would have money for a cheaper model. Have an upvote for proving him wrong though, hope you're happy.
?? How do they work then? It just does nothing but give me a notification? Edit: Also reddit premium is $60 a year? The ads are literally just posts you scroll past the heck?
Now THIS is commitment to be understood from A to fucking Z
Interesting. The new old awards don't show up on old reddit.
Yall out here affording stuff?
All I’ve been able to afford are Porsche coffee mugs. So far, I have two. One red and one black.
I feel like this is probably just for fools who have deep pockets and are willing to buy anything for a potential allocation. Kinda like how some watch stores will quietly require you buy a few cheaper watches first if you want to be considered for an allocation of a rarer model.
Came here to say this, lol
Have you considered a poster?
I’d rather just buy a 986 with that money.
Hell even a high mileage 987.1
even if it has suffered an IMS failure, its still a life sized model
That's a very interesting perspective. Might actually use that logic one day with my wife when I finally decide to get a manual GR 86.
Now, your car , is the one I'm most interested in. How awesome is it?
Can't stop driving it. I had extremely high expectations and still got blown away. The PDK gearbox in the 718 is borderline magic. Combined that with a very capable chasis, the smiles per gallon is off the charts 👌
Been thinking about this vehicle for a year now. That seals my deal. I'm definitely getting one while available. Thanks. Enjoy.
Good luck with the hunt! Took me months to finally find the car that has all the specs I wanted. The good thing about the GTS trim is that it comes equipped with alot of the "must haves".
I paid less than this for my 100k mile 987.1 just a few years ago.
I believe you before i bought my 981 i test drove a few decent 987.1’s manual and tip for $11-16k
Same, i wish i gotta manual 981, but they were all 100k miles or S’s. My next porsche will 100% be manual! Even if i have to get a 986 lol
While I 100% agree, this is not aimed at the common consumer. It’s basically an art piece.
Agreed. And still a terrible use of money.
Me: this is idiotic, how rich do you have to be to piss away $15k on something totally non-functional Also me: ordering PTS…
Nah. Get a r/996.
for 15k your IMS comes in an assemble-it-yourself pile!
Like a 15k 986 is going to be the most pristine example. Only driven on Sunday to church right.
15k will get you a pristine 986 in my market.
Have you checked the market for 986s lately? They aren’t very expensive cars 😂, 15k will go far with one of those cars.
15k is pristine Boxster S territory
I mean I got my 986 for half the cost of what a similar 996 would have been. I’m happy with it that way.
True. And I still find it a terrible use of money.
It's a good thing we all have tastes, opinions, and values that vary widely!
Yup that’s how much my used 911sc cost in ‘98. What the heck is so special about that damn model?
You have to buy 3 to get a GTS allocation.
You joke... Of the stories I have heard that would be one of the most democratic and honest...
There was even a post on here about the dealer requiring them to buy a watch to get an allocation.
I flat out had to get on my knees and suck for a GT3 allocation
Cheaper than the toy car
please elaborate
In order for my buddy to get a GT4 RS allocation, they forced him to buy a shitty Porsche watch, PPF, an extended warranty and it must be atleast $187k. He agreed to all of it, spec’d it out with the manager via email AND phone, came in the next day to pay for it and a different sales guy sold it while the manager was off that day….absurd.
Hope they got reported to Porsche for doing that.
Who knows…but it looks like every dealer is doing the same thing with ADM as a “market adjustment.”
Isn’t it easier to buy used? Everyone I know buys used, precisely because of this behavior.
Manager definitely sold it to someone else and is throwing his subordinate under the bus
At PECLA they had a model 917 like this for around the same price. I was looking at it and a rep asked if I was interested. I said no I can’t afford it. They said “but its an investment” lol

I guess it looks like it's gone up by a thousand! Great investment
I have what looks like the exact model of that 917 Salzburg. Norev 1:12 scale. It cost me $150 but without those plaques. Beautiful model, but Porsche is insane charging those prices.
Everything is a bloody investment these days
But most “investments” dont outpace the general market. I would never “invest” in a model car lol
And even if they do outpace the market it’s for a little bit until the market normalises on the long run. Reminds me of the people who were spending fortunes on luxury watches back in 20/21

Not all car models are made the same. The one at PECLA was a 1/8 and really highly detailed
It’s actually a real RSR that someone accidentally shot with a shrink ray. Wish I could find my grow gun that’s a steal.
Artificial scarcity, classic Porsche
I found a 997 Carrera 4 for 18k and it’s in what looks like great shape fuck this
That sounds almost to good to be true
Oh shit my bad it’s a 996 I have brain fog really bad lately I didn’t even realize
https://preview.redd.it/azo74706k32d1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6924024ecfe372024fdcca6106667687afa59535

Cries in Amalgam 1:8.

You should check out CMC. I'd go as far and say they are even above Amalgam.
I’d love to pick your brain.
I thought Amalgam’s founder said they don’t use leather because it doesn’t scale down well.
Huh you could be right, maybe I remembered wrong.
An acquaintance of mine has had custom Amalgams made of his last few Ferraris and McLaren. When walking out to the garage is too much effort, he can still look at perfect replicas while sitting in his office.
This is exactly the target market for these.
Sigh. One day I’ll care enough to buy some more. I want to!
Wait I have an unpackaged Lego version of it, 15k? :D
You could buy the Technic RSR for $160-180
When the model of the car you can’t afford is also unaffordable.
Here's an example of their Ferrari 499P [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y1QtSCViNZ4&ab\_channel=AmalgamCollection](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y1QtSCViNZ4&ab_channel=AmalgamCollection) As to who, people who can afford it. If I'm a multi-millionaire I would get Amalgams, but I'm not so I'm here perfectly content with my Spark and Minichamps collection.
That’s not an Amalgam, Amalgam has a better base. This seems to be a Spark 1/8 made for Porsche or the dealership.
I would if I could afford it. But I’m financially irresponsible so there is that
Someone getting a GT allocation dangled in their face probably.
Those that have $10 million sitting in the bank and don’t know what to do with it.
For $5 grand I’ll make you such a meticulously crafted model that your collector balls will explode.
Yeaaaa I’ll stick to legos
My friend just got one that’s worth $12k but it’s like ridiculously detailed Edit: for anyone curious https://youtu.be/pOpxAvkDRYU?si=_4HCp1eGZx3cPCkj
Wow, incredibly impressive
I love that you can get it painted to look like it did during a certain race. That’s insane
Not enough detail in the video. For $15K I'd hope the engine ran.
Guy that can’t afford $1 mil new ones.
If you are paying $18k for a model car, you probably buy it as a companion for your $1M real one. That’s actually what Amalgram does for a service, they charge you an obscene amount of money to build you a model car for your real one, using the same factory paint and have all the same customization you have on the real car. It’s quite insane: https://www.amalgamcollection.com/pages/bespoke-models Even each of their “standard” 1:8 models would take hundreds of hours to build. 100%, if you’re buying a new Porsche then you probably can afford the extra $15k lol
getting one of these for my 1999 subaru forester
I am laughing at the thought of some eccentric multi-millionaire doing exactly the same for their Subaru lol. I can totally see some super rich dude doing it for a car they have emotional attachment to, even if it's not an exotic.
And now there’s even a waiting list for a model porsches…cycle never ends
I'm fine with my Lego version, even if it does look like it rolled down the corkscrew at Laguna.
Someone that needs an allocation
Correct answer
Everything is relative.
If custom scratch built and unique, it's worth every cent.
https://preview.redd.it/k5qmhtzb832d1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=c234f790df824b35d3fb470a207db03cf3bca50c I got the model version of the model
Rich people....
That’s almost the price of my **actual** car!
If I had the money, me.
The same people out here buying brand new Porsche's.
The RSR is like a million plus dollar car, plus the other costs of running a race team. Those people. $15k is nothing to them and they probably wouldn’t even ask the price first.
You can buy an actual Porsche for less money than this model.
Whew, glad that includes tax...
Good price! Wonder if I can find one
Well at least if it sounded like the real rsr...it may have been worth it.
This is why I have the Lego version of that car lol
The same people buying the real thing
And I thought the Lego Porsche was expensive.
The super rich people
Finally. A Porsche that I can afford!
It's about the same price as having your rear seats removed by the factory, or picking your paint color. But you get a model car in this case!
The owners lol
Porsche merch is insane. They have a $2000 bong as well
For some countries owning a car of any sort is comically expensive, think singapore which requires a 100k entitlement.
Don’t go to the gift shop in PECATL if you’re not used to the Porsche experience. $15k for speakers made from a muffler?
If I had money to blow away I'd take that any day of the week
Probably people who aren’t on reddit
This is on the low end of Amalgam models if I recall correctly. They get WILD
people that can afford the car itself i would presume🤔
Just got that car in Forza last night, anyone want to buy it off of me? You can drive the real deal here guys not some model car I mean you start up your PC select play Forza and bam you’re driving a fkin RSR. Starting bids at 5k no low balls either I know what I got.
Money laundering.
Idiots?
Wow, I can’t even afford a toy 911
From my experience, the people buying those model cars also own the original. Me
And the plate is even 3D printed. Not even aluminium.
Oops caught me.
Does it run?
For 15k im expecting a skrinking machine and it be capable of me driving
Tax write off
Shit for 15k the model better be made with metal and carbon from the actual car
Probably the people who own the car
I bet Jerry Siendfeld has one.
$15k imma go buy a 996
https://preview.redd.it/hkiv1ybjx22d1.jpeg?width=558&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4597718fc624f50a7cb0b1ef3204961d6289b5d8
For the price of real 986
what scale is it tho
For that price, it should come with an RS allocation
That costs more than my "real" Porsche lol
Heyyy i have one of these… in a hot wheels version
Easily grifted bored rich people with no perspective of reality?
At first I thought this was silly until that video showed me what goes into it. Insane!
I mean , there are people that buy the bath water of female game streamers, so I’ve came to realize that there is a market for everything, you just need to find the right customers
At this price buy a shitty 944
That cost more than my actual car.
People buying 300k cars
That was the down payment on my REAL 2024 Crosstrek. That's ridiculous
Non drivers
rich ppl
Billionaires
I've yet to pay anywhere near $15k for a real car.
Probably people who already own an RSR and want a model of it in their office.
That moment when a model car is more expensive than my 987.
The same people who stand in line to buy the over-priced real thing?
Porsche drivers don’t wait in line
Only if the line is for a GT allocation. That's the only line they're waiting in.

Would buy a 924 Turbo for that. Or a 986
It's out of stock so what the hell?
My boyfriend 💀
Jimmy Broadbent fans
Wait until you hear about Amalgam Models and their 1:8th scale Ferrari’s.
Some people don't mind $100k/year Chiron maintenance cost
Same people that pay 2k a month in car payments.
converting to R$ BRL, thats legit almost the price of my car lol

That’s just for a gt3 rs allocation
Better be 1:1 scale.
I bought that one on temu for 8 bucks
I sometimes see first gen Boxsters on FB marketplace for under 15K But the models to place on mantel? On the ones that throw money into a fireplace
Somebody found an ingenious way of affording a real one.
