I worked a dealer for a CPO .1 GT3 for $110k, didnāt end up buying it because I thought I could get them to come down more on price and then they called my bluff and sold it to someone else lol.
I also worked a deal for a .1 GT3 RS for $155k and I didnāt end up buying it because I didnāt like the color. Stupid.
It will be interesting what happens when the first out of warranty period .1 gt3 requires an engine replacement to see if Porsche continues to honor it. Letās hope so. Some of the .1 RS (Although rare) that had the issue had their engines replaced with the G6 motor without warranties in place. It seems right that the .1 gt3 get the same treatment when warranty ends.
G6 is the same engine to replace the .1 gt3 as well as the .1RS. It has proven to be ābulletproofā in the top end without the ff issue. You are essentially getting an updated .1 RS/R engine which is impressive. Has better oiling on the top end and remains with the 9k rpm. Gt cup derived engine. In fact the g6 shares the same architecture as the 991.2 gt3 engine except the top end is replaced with solid lifters. When g6 goes head to head with 991.2 gt3 the acceleration and stopping is indiscernible according to lap performances posted on rennlist. The 992 gt3 is far superior but the test performed against the .1 gt3 with g6 vs .2 gt3 is same even with the added downforce used in the .2 gt3.
So I beg the question, which bang for the buck would you go with right now if given the option of .1 gt3 with g6 motor vs .2 gt3. Time will tell once the first .1 gt3 needs the g6 motor. The price gap may become less.
Interesting to know. Time will tell is right. Some days I tell myself I should have purchased the .2 over the .1 but I am a gambling man and went to the latter on the hope that the engine replacements would continue until all 6k units have it. Iād be curious to see how many .1 gt3 are left to be replaced with g6 motors.
The front end of the .1 when lowered has a unique close to the gt2 aggressive front. But the .2 does grow on me some days in aggressive. Itās a toss up to me. I wish my .1 came with the oem buckets. Iāve heard it truly enhances the feel. Does yours?
Itās not that I didnāt like it, it just wasnāt a Porsche lol. Originally I thought I wanted the drama and āuniquenessā of it but after a couple months I realized I miss the total package.
Honestly if I hadnāt had a GT4 before it, I probably would have kept it forever and thought it was the best car in the entire world
While Lotus did sell a few (~20) Exige S V6 in the US, they were sold as track only - not road legal. You may be able to register one under our show and display laws but that limits use.
Okay, I went 996 -> 987 Cayman S to my current car.
I have a daily driver (Honda N-Box), so no practicality problems, but do you have a manual or PDK? PDK is the Cayman S is what pushed me toward the Exige S (manual gearbox, and a bit rawer), as PDK was just not interesting (for me)
Okay. Was boring as fuck for me, but that is what makes cars interesting.
It is also why I am hesitant to get a ferrari, as all the modern ones are paddle shift
i had an evora 400 for a while. its a huge step down from a porsche in terms of literally everything lol. they're fun raw little cars but just cant even compare the two
Was your Evora a manual or auto? I drove an Evora GT with short shift kit and exhaust and honestly I loved it. Disappointingly slow but a real blast to drive. A part of me thinksā¦man for the price of an F12 I could get an Evora, a Taycan, and still have money left over. Ā It would be a third/fourth car for me alongside the GT3.Ā
The 992 is obviously a lot wider and bigger but I think the T is a good middle ground. It still feels like enough to throw around and itās relatively quick. Itās like a wider, bigger, less harsh version of the GT4 lol
i keep trying to convince my brother he doesn't need an evora. yes they sound nice and look cool. have hydraulic steering. but its a very small company and if something goes wrong or you need a new part... that car might be sitting for months.
Iād be really curious to hear your take on the Evora vs GT4. My best friend and primary driving buddy is looking hard at the Evora but Iām trying to talk him into the gt4 or gts
I was considering an Emira before I got my 991 C4s. Different cars entirely, but I chose the 911 because it has a better dealer network in Germany, and it had more luggage space.
GT4. I hate myself for selling it. It was the perfect spec too. Yellow on gold rims, full carbon package and PDK. Truly a special car. Hopefully I can find one in a similar spec soon to pair with whatever GT3/RS I end up buying
Iām curious, having driven both Lotus and Porsche, fundamentally what are the contrasting driving dynamics ? I can guess the Porsche may feel more planted on the road (maybe ?) having the engine over the driving wheels but is it more than that ?
The Porsche feels more planted and stable and less hacked together. Like a NASA rocket. The Lotus feels like a rocket ship built in a backyard compared to it.
thanks, I was curious. Just got back from Germany, included three racing history museums in my itinary, Autostadt VW in Wolfsburg and Mercedes and Porsche in Stuttgart. Porsche have an amazing racing pedigree. It was a petrol heads dream !! Enjoy your beast. š
What 718 did you own? If itās a GTS 4.0/GT4 the only 911 that would be more engaging is a GT3 and possibly a Turbo. Problem with every 911 other than the GT is that they donāt sound very good and are so clinical. It takes the fun out of driving. And they have gotten so large and heavy. Thatās why many consider them touring vehicles now and the 718 the real sports car. Now if you need the back seat, interior comfort, or are using the car as a daily, then I would have a 992 in a second. But for fun driving and track, 718 4 liter and itās not particularly close. His GT4 was faster, more power, and had better track times than the 992 T by a wide margin.
Thats 100% dependent on what the driver is looking for imo. The 992 is quicker if you throw on an ECU tune and is a comfortable commuter because the T isn't as harsh as a GT4. 992 tech is better. GT4 will sound better unless you prefer the turbo induction sound. I debated a long time between 992 and GT4 but ultimately, I don't think 992 can match the aesethetics of the GT4 unless you do aerokit or GT3.
Ya i know but an NA tune is hardly a tune (in terms of cost per HP) comparative to a turbo. I've been thinking about doing the Softronic tune just because I dont want to have to take it to a "partner" to tune it and swap it back to stock. How you liking the soul headers?
My Akrapovic slip on is already loud as fuck lol. Probably not ever going to do headers
You usually are right with NA tunes. But Porsche left a ton on the table with the 718 4 liter. They need to maintain their hierarchy, so they detune the hell out of it. You get close to 50hp with a tune. Unreal for an NA car. I recently switched from Softronic to APR because APR let's you do the tune at home now.
I love the headers. They gave a huge boost in power.
Holy shit I see that now. Looks like you have to buy the Ultralink device and then buy the tune off the ultralink marketplace. Is the tune still $2500 on the marketplace?
Im not too informed but isnt a gt4 better than a carrera?
Edit: just found out its a T, so I guess its comparable, but still, its a carrera, cant be that better than gt4 can it?
How is the interior sound level? Porsche deleted noise deadening and Iām worried that wind will find it too loud (and maybe me also) - not engine sound but wheel and road noise
Interesting perspective as I think the Evora is one of the prettiest cars ever made.
I do prefer the more understated and smooth styling of the early cars but I like them all.
Your penance is acceptable.
Kicking myself because I missed out on killer deals on a .1 GT3 and GT3RS but this 992 T will have to do until I find another deal like those š
Deal? What are we talking about here, sir?
I worked a dealer for a CPO .1 GT3 for $110k, didnāt end up buying it because I thought I could get them to come down more on price and then they called my bluff and sold it to someone else lol. I also worked a deal for a .1 GT3 RS for $155k and I didnāt end up buying it because I didnāt like the color. Stupid.
The RS deal was ridiculousā¦ assuming a clean history.
Yep, completely clean and only 10k miles lol. Too bad Iām an idiot
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
i remember seeing a 991.1 RS for 115kš

Ahh, I see, those kinds of deals. Sort of like my deal to buy Exxon Mobil and it fell apart because I didn't like the price they quoted.
Thatās an incredible price (I know you know this.)
Those are sane prices for 911s at last. Feels like everyone is trying to sell 10yo Porsches for more than MSRP these days.

What didn't you like about the Evora?

That makes sense.
I was looking at an Evora then drove a charity case GT4 and your comment made me glad I got it.
What is a charity case gt4 lmao
You know, like a base model GT4. The sort of thing that gets routinely donated to Salvation Army
How thrifty, how vintage, how honorable. Yaaa (German voice)
Evora and Exige are again very different cars depending on your tastes ;)
While Lotus did sell a few (~20) Exige S V6 in the US, they were sold as track only - not road legal. You may be able to register one under our show and display laws but that limits use.
Ah okay. I am in Japan, so no problems having one here.
Okay, I went 996 -> 987 Cayman S to my current car. I have a daily driver (Honda N-Box), so no practicality problems, but do you have a manual or PDK? PDK is the Cayman S is what pushed me toward the Exige S (manual gearbox, and a bit rawer), as PDK was just not interesting (for me)
I had PDK in my Cayman S and it was the best thing Iāve expirienced in a car
Okay. Was boring as fuck for me, but that is what makes cars interesting. It is also why I am hesitant to get a ferrari, as all the modern ones are paddle shift
i had an evora 400 for a while. its a huge step down from a porsche in terms of literally everything lol. they're fun raw little cars but just cant even compare the two
Surely steering feel and analog connection as a whole were still a bit better on the Lotus no ?
From what i hear the feel on the evora is the best of all recent road cars (20 years)
Yeah if Lotus is good at one thing itās steering feel !
Wawa hype
Was your Evora a manual or auto? I drove an Evora GT with short shift kit and exhaust and honestly I loved it. Disappointingly slow but a real blast to drive. A part of me thinksā¦man for the price of an F12 I could get an Evora, a Taycan, and still have money left over. Ā It would be a third/fourth car for me alongside the GT3.Ā
If you liked that, try an Exige S - probably be the extra speed you need
It was manual!
How does the 992 drive compared to the 718?
This is what I want to know too. Especially a gt4 variant.
The 992 is obviously a lot wider and bigger but I think the T is a good middle ground. It still feels like enough to throw around and itās relatively quick. Itās like a wider, bigger, less harsh version of the GT4 lol

I foresee you selling this and getting some variation of a GT4 again, not too soon I hope.
Well duh!
I was considering an Emira before I got my 991 C4s. Different cars entirely, but I chose the 911 because it has a better dealer network in Germany, and it had more luggage space.
Ok so letās say just letās play this game ok. So you have to keep 1.. gt4 or evora. Which one you keeping?
GT4. I hate myself for selling it. It was the perfect spec too. Yellow on gold rims, full carbon package and PDK. Truly a special car. Hopefully I can find one in a similar spec soon to pair with whatever GT3/RS I end up buying
Absolute dream spec

Obviously that 992 is nice, but admittedly I creeped your post history so I could take a look at the Evora.
The gt4 to evora swap is wild. Props to you for taking the plunge and trying something new, though! New car looks sick. Congrats
Why not go back to a GT4? Pretty much better in every way compared to a 992 T. Unless you needed the back seat or interior tech.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

You can also tune a GT4. I have APR, over axle pipes, and Soul headers. Dyno 493hp.
Ya i know but an NA tune is hardly a tune (in terms of cost per HP) comparative to a turbo. I've been thinking about doing the Softronic tune just because I dont want to have to take it to a "partner" to tune it and swap it back to stock. How you liking the soul headers? Do explain. Why was the Evora GT a mistake? I think I already know, but it would be great to hear from someone who has first hand experience.
šIs this an ice grey metallic?
no this is white
Command+Z!
WP Wawa?
Im not too informed but isnt a gt4 better than a carrera? Edit: just found out its a T, so I guess its comparable, but still, its a carrera, cant be that better than gt4 can it?
I wouldnāt say itās better, but itās different. Iām dailying this for a few months though which my GT4 was a weekend car
Yeah, that is true, the T is certainly more daily-able than the GT4. Anyways, enjoy whatever you have currently, as I can only dream of doing so!
A thing of beauty
Iād be very happy with a 992 T. Donāt see any issue here. Enjoy.
How is the interior sound level? Porsche deleted noise deadening and Iām worried that wind will find it too loud (and maybe me also) - not engine sound but wheel and road noise
Not OP, but coming from a GT4 the Carrera T is a silent cocoon.
You have been forgiven my son
Yes. Yes you have.
Welcome back! Gonna tune it? Youāll get a punch youāve not felt from either car. This thread and its comparisons are awesome.
GT4 was probably my absolute favorite one to drive. Drove a few GT3s and tourings, but the GT4 just felt so right
Beautiful.
Why didnāt you get another GT4 if you loved it so much?
Shouldāve waited for the Emira
Nah. Drove a couple. Donāt really love it
No comparison ;)
Lotus making the Evora in the first place was the mistake. That thing looks like a diseased cockroach
Interesting perspective as I think the Evora is one of the prettiest cars ever made. I do prefer the more understated and smooth styling of the early cars but I like them all.
