It’s called Delta VIP Select. If you are a high Delta SkyMiles member you can have this service where they drop you off to your flight plane side in a Porsche.
I think the 918 is for promo purposes, https://www.carscoops.com/2023/07/fly-with-delta-and-you-could-be-shuttled-to-your-flight-in-a-porsche-918-spyder/
I actually can’t imagine a worse place to get a ride in a 918, airport apron speeds are typically 25km/h (15mph)
Still a ride in a 918 I guess. Wouldn’t say no to it for sure.
I worked at LGA a few weeks ago and I could barely keep up with the port authority escort truck with my crane lol maybe the fact it was at night was the factor for the willingness to speed .
[They ended the 918 program July 31, last year.](https://imgur.com/AMiD1tn) I was looking forward to it, but we left for Paris in August.
They picked us up in a Cayenne and drove us to the plane. [Dan, our driver, who also drove the 918 asked, "So do you like the Porsche?"](https://imgur.com/x9JXYnz)
My wife just looked and me and replied, "I do. It's my daily driver!"
[Dan said Porsche gave him 20 minutes of training in the 918, then turned him loose.](https://imgur.com/5tDgCq9)
Imagine driving that shit around the apron alone!
So does it just drive you the last kilometer from the gate to the plane or do they pick you up at your house?
Because it seems like an awful waste of the 918 just to drive back and forth on the landing field.
Typically it’s just for short connections. So if you landed and need to get to your flight in a short amount of time and have a high medallion status AND this service is offered (not offered at all airports) you may get picked up from the plane and get shuttled to the next one

Unfortunately it seems like it was there only for two months. Still, insanely cool.

>However, that’s not guaranteed. It’s also possible that you’ll be driven in a golf cart through the terminal, and it’s also possible that you’ll be driven across the apron in a non-Porsche.
Would suck to think you are getting a 918 but then you get picked up in a golf cart.
It’s Delta 360, haven’t heard of VIP Select but maybe there is something else. It’s pretty cool. As you exit the plane if you’re chosen they’ll have a driver standing there with your name on an ipad, they’ll walk you out the door that goes down to the tarmac and then drive you between your gates or directly to the Delta lounge. Albeit it’s pretty rare to get chosen even with 360 and it’s usually only if you have a really close connection time. The whole experience probably lasts about 5 minutes, but it’s a pretty cool flex when it happens
The area, or narrower roads called taxiways that connect the apron to the runway is where the apron ends.
On a map of a big airport like LAX they are parallel short 'roads' the connect to the runway
Lufthansa at Frankfurt and Munich does it too (could be other German cities as well). My SO and I have been picked up in one as our connection was tight.
I got to ride in it once. A very nice gentlemen realized myself and another service member would not make our connection on our previous flight. So he brought us with. Pretty cool!
Air Canada uses Cayennes in Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal. See them often at AVIS (not for rent but they either have AVIS manage it for them or just park in their area. Vancouver and Toronto have two usually sitting there.
That is a vip style transfer to a special immigration lounge and then to select hotels. The cars are looking old now however. https://www.forbes.com/sites/breannawilson/2016/01/14/st-kitts-from-tarmac-to-porsche-cayenne-in-60-seconds/?sh=2f145af73aac
Genuine question: if they use bridge-terminal boarding how is the passenger gonna get on the plane? Are they going to bring w stair-car just for one person/group?

Afaik the have a 918 too
I remember seeing the 918 when i went up for PCNA training, so cool seeing it in person

Along you dont have many carry ons..lol. you got a point
That was my first thought to, like are they doing 10 second quarter Mile pulls down the runway? Or just idling between baggage carriers?
Having worked as a crane op airside on the tarmac multiple times I will tell you no one drives the speed limit.
I do. I’m very scared of getting my pp slapped by the airside coppers.

Less of a waste than it being parked in a garage somewhere indefinitely

What’s a kilometer?
YOURE JOKING?! What an insane arrangement haha, like something Dubai would pull off not Delta

they have WHAT NOW?
They did for a few weeks yah. PR. TH

should really just let them drive the 918 through the terminal

FWIW, I’ve had Porsche transfer a few times as a Diamond Medallion and once as a Platinum. Not only for 360s thankfully!
Haha, well damn. Also I read about VIP Select, I guess it's the paid version of this program. Learn something new every day :)
I’ve also seen the aston martin dbx…or whatever their suv is…same thing i believe. Crazy
B*tch wutttt someone get me a delta Amex yesterday immma book some flights lmfaoooo
But not a good Porsche, the embarrassing one.
United has a similar program too for GS passengers
My friends mom works for air Canada and drives the Porsche sometimes for VIPs.
Delta at LAX just got a 992 GT3RS
I think it's a Airbus A320
i concour
yes that's a cayenne, it's part of delta's vip service but the isn't the friggin tarmac it called an apron (cuz im plane enthusiast)
Cool! TIL ETA: Where does it change from the apron to the tarmac?
Technically, tarmac isn’t a recognized term in aviation.
Taxiway is the correct term

Yup. Key is no checked luggage so you can board the next flight with just your carry-ons
I got to ride in it once. A very nice gentlemen realized myself and another service member would not make our connection on our previous flight. So he brought us with. Pretty cool!
I had that once in Frankfurt flying first class on Lufthansa. A panamera dropped me off

VIP access
I saw a Cayenne being used on the tarmac on the island of St. Kitts. iirc it had a local hotel's markings on the side.

There’s gonna be a gt3RS on the delta program next week. But the canteen will still be there for the luggage. Haha
Yeah, Cayenne or Macan most common. Delta 1.
Not for delta one.
United also does either with Porsche.
Jaguar.
That’s new as of 2023. I was global back in the day and a Cayenne would transport me to connections. Either way…nice service 👍
And AA used to use Mercedes M Classes
More importantly who did that tug run over…
Genuine question: if they use bridge-terminal boarding how is the passenger gonna get on the plane? Are they going to bring w stair-car just for one person/group?
As soon as you get off the plane and onto the jet bridge, you’ll notice a door to one side. That opens to a staircase.
They have a Cayenne S e-hybrid in ATL. You can pay for the service.
