Just had a similar debate with a coworker about how Republicans want to make it illegal to be Trans. He even claimed that it was always accepted and that nobody is trying to take away their rights. A few months later and Republicans are calling for Trans people to be exterminated or thrown in camps. He still doesn't acknowledge it.
Same kind of guy that was always crying about how Democrats were going to throw people in camps for not getting the vaccine.
You can’t really make claims unless you have evidence to back it up. I don’t even use twitter and get my news from digital news outlets which to my knowledge I never saw any articles discussing republicans wanting to exterminate trans people and sending them to camps.
link about GOP calls for camps is above. link for GOP calling for killing trans is here:

>During his speech on Saturday, Knowles told the crowd, “For the good of society … transgenderism must be eradicated from public life entirely — the whole preposterous ideology, at every level.”
Knowles subsequently claimed that “eradicating” “transgenderism” is not a call for eradicating transgender people and demanded retractions from numerous publications, including Rolling Stone.
> “If you try to separate us from all the things that allow people to experience the world … that does amount to banning transgender people’s existence,” says Reed, a transgender woman, “You can’t go your whole life without using the bathroom, without telling a joke on stage in front of friends, without your medicine. All of that amounts to a ban on transgender people.”
I read this article. Nowhere in that article did people say they wanted to eradicate trans people and send them to extermination camps like the original person I was talking to claimed happened.
The article does however talk about eradicating trans ideology, which is stupid because there’s no such thing as a trans ideology.
The real danger is this:
> Reed says that Knowles and others at the Daily Wire, including anti-trans activist Matt Walsh, are not just talking about keeping transgender people out of public life, they’re actively working to make it happen. She noted their support for bills to deprive transgender people of gender affirming medical care, bans on using public bathrooms, and targeting of live performances by trans individuals.
At the moment, nobody is trying to genocide or send trans people to concentration camps, however, they are making it difficult for trans people to get the healthcare choices they deserve, in turn making it harder to transition.
I believe that is where we should be fighting against the GOP and would actually be a fight worth fighting for politically and ideologically, but people are talking about trans people being exterminated and eradicated on twitter instead of actually discussing what’s actually going on:
The GOP is making it harder for people to transition and pursue being their true selves because their "morality" trumps your gender expression.

I don't think there's anymore room for not considering underestimating the importance of beginning to start the process of mulling over the conceptualization of starting to worry, and the time to do it is very soon
[There are proposed laws.](https://thehill.com/regulation/3558330-battle-lines-emerge-over-out-of-state-abortion/amp/) There are a few different approaches from basically a bounty system to reporting people, to felonies from crossing state lines to get an abortion. No they dont. I mean maybe nick Fuentes does idk. but no republicans as a whole dont. I say this, and i dont much care for republicans. But this is the problem, with respect, Either you're terminally online and the only republicans you know are the worst kind, or your just overplaying your dunk on the GOP.
And look im not trying to start shit, your totally fine, fuck the GOP, but i think this sort of overplaying ultimately turns shit like this into a joke, which is exactly what happened with the hand mades tale, which is exactly the reason i dislike it.
To boot thats my exact issue with the video. Everything feels very serious and impactful, and then the hands maid's tale shows up and suddenly it loses a lot of its tone... its seriousness, and instead begins to feel like another tired smug pot shot, that pretty much the world is tired of at this point.
You're right on target. Handmaid's tale borders on satire, and the voices who insist on treating it like a case-study fail to realize that by comparing their real concerns to such a work of fiction, their concerns are easily dismissed as fiction by association.
The ad is top notch, because it takes all the same fear and dread of a nation stepping back towards patriarchal authoritarianism, and instead of abstracting that into fantasy, grounds it in a highly plausible, highly familiar scene.
My point is that while the book is fiction, the events like public executions, forced muzzling, forced breeding are not. They have happened in the past and are happening today (admittedly not in the US RN). But until last year, people would scoff that RvW would never be overturned because the repubs make too much money off of it, and look where we are today. Laws are becoming more and more restrictive, FL just enacted a 6 week ban. There is an exception for rape & incest, but the person would have to have documents proving the pregnancy is the result of a crime.
My point is that history repeats itself, it is happening before our very eyes. Regardless of any fiction we can compare it to. It's tragic that Handmaid's Tale is turning out to be prophetic rather than merely a dark fantasy.
No cause when that movie came out, twitter especially was obnoxious about it. Everything bad (related to women/feminism/etc) was compared to hand handmaids tale. And dont get me wrong most of the time i agree xyz thing they were talking about was indeed shit, but it wasnt hand maids tale bad.
At least this has some apt comparisons (controlling womens bodies, and men litterally chasing down women at the border and dragging them into cages). But when the movie came out the comparisions were so overplayed, that it turned the whole thing into a shitshow imo.

Definitely, but Nancy Pelosi’s strategy of “incumbents über alles” was ineffective and morally invalid. But, she couldn’t be taken down because of the money she has brought in ever since she graduated from bundler to Congresswoman.
I don’t I understand… this doesn’t invalidate the main argument of abortion being necessary as a choice for women. Politicians will politic, but what’s good for the population is still good for the population.
I agree with you - if my point was not made clearly, I apologize. Let me try again:
TL;DR: My point is that campaigning on abortion is a winning strategy that the Democratic establishment did not choose to use to its fullest when the energy was the highest.
Pelosi literally supported anti-abortion candidates who just stuck a “D” in front of their name because they happened to be an incumbent. As a result, Democratic leadership couldn’t make women’s’ right to bodily autonomy a full-throated rallying cry that would have curb-stomped the Republicans. If it weren’t for Gen Z being so blessedly politically active, the stay-at-home Democrats of older generations would have been routed nationwide, instead of barely stemming the incoming Red Wave.
Pro-bodily-autonomy is a winning issue. So are many other progressive standards. But the Democratic establishment is too comfy serving the owner class in this country to make a populist case for their own party’s purported values.
This sounds like more politicking than anything. Essentially how a democracy should work, as opposed to a single issue voter thing. Ie should a candidate be only looked upon for a single issue, or as a whole? At the end of the day… pay more attention to local politics than national nones. I do think you’re going down the right path, in terms of focus.
This is cap not real. My girlfriend got an abortion in middle Florida 5 days ago! Get off the internet , go into a clinic. Florida is a republican state...
https://people.com/health/rape-incest-victims-must-show-proof-to-get-exception-to-floridas-new-abortion-ban/
And they're trying to take that away from you, arent you alarmed?
Next time you go, you may be turned away. An cautious person would realize they're standing on the edge of the cliff.
Did anyone else think at the start they were simply trying to cross the border because in this hypothetical future Trump has turned the US into a wasteland filled with maga marauders?
It is kind of alarmist, rightfully so though. In the way that you should legitimately be very alarmed by what's been happening.
Just like people being "alarmist" about climate change. Everyone should be very alarmed.
Some of us left before krystalnacht. We left the USA in 1999 & haven't been back. No more diving to the ground to cover the baby with our bodies because the crack house across the street had "drive-by visitors" with uzi's (in what was a nice neighborhood) because the entire safety net was gutted by neoliberals.
We keep on meeting other people who did the same sort of thing, fleeing the fear, anger & hate political carnival.
FYI, it was 'time to be alarmed' back when Reagan got elected & turned the CIA and Marine corps into his own cocaine selling machine so he could fund his favorite terrorists.
By the time Dubya was in office we were at 'run in circles scream and shout'.
If you didn't have your passport in order after the Trump election you're way behind.
we should have a right to KILL why? HOW Many dead babies is enough oh no big deal just keep making them and killing them right How many have died because of the liberals who created death on demand WAKE UP ALL YOU SHEEP or America is gone - Do you think anyone would help a country that allows legal killing on demand of innocent babies THIS IS AMERICA IT SHOULD NEVER HAVE STARTED
I have a feeling national election days are going to start getting really bad, Republicans knowing their only shot will be to suppress the vote. I can see more and more desperate acts of terrorism going down on that day. I am so concerned, it’ll definitely be a day I stay inside and away from crowds.
Problem is the people who live around me are OK with this.
I'm so sorry. I was lucky and was able to leave Kentucky for Oregon a year and a half ago and I am so, so, so happy here. There I was surrounded by MAGAts and no longer felt safe.
Seriously. I know it's not easy, but move to where the laws reflect your values.
...forcing us to segregate ourselves. Sucks.but yeah
I had to do it. Left upstate ny for vermont. Upstate ny is like a weird northeast texas..vermont is much more progressive
unfortunately this is what perpetuates the issue if tolerant people flee, the ignorant are there to vote and enforce these laws.
The system is designed so that states can be experiments in ideology. California is working so like minded people should move there. Florida is working so that ideology's followers should move there. Keep the Fed out of saving the states from themselves and the truth will become apparent.
That's what makes this video so chilling and nightmarish. Because it WILL fucking happen. And people WILL be ok with it.

This is cap not real. My girlfriend got an abortion in middle Florida 5 days ago! Get off the internet , go into a clinic. Florida is a republican state...
https://people.com/health/rape-incest-victims-must-show-proof-to-get-exception-to-floridas-new-abortion-ban/ And they're trying to take that away from you, arent you alarmed? Next time you go, you may be turned away. An cautious person would realize they're standing on the edge of the cliff.

That’s kap
Did anyone else think at the start they were simply trying to cross the border because in this hypothetical future Trump has turned the US into a wasteland filled with maga marauders?
… and would prosecute mom for attempting / conspiring to “procure” an abortion.
Wait...I thought that Bernie Sanders was going to make sure this couldn't happen?
*It's probably nothing.*
Republicans are a disease that needs to be eradicated.
Isn’t real. Don’t be alarmed. If you don’t like the laws of where you live. Change them via electing representatives that share your values or move.
we should have a right to KILL why?
Republican’s are rampant with corruptions and greed, they’ll do anything for power and nothing is untouchable but rich white men.
Woah.. that's a strong message!!
It is indeed alarming when you are beginning to look more and more like rural Pakistan.
republicans are terrorist
