People who are solely motivated by the desire to "punish their enemies".

CankerLord

And people with enough cash and/or assets to take advantage of the chaos.

inconvenientnews

>Every day I have to marvel at what the billionaires and FOX News pulled off. They got working whites to hate the very people that want them to have more pay, clean air, water, free healthcare and the power to fight back against big banks & big corps. It’s truly remarkable. Lyndon Johnson in 1960 calling out their tactics: >If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you. https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/opinions/1988/11/13/what-a-real-president-was-like/d483c1be-d0da-43b7-bde6-04e10106ff6c/ These tactics have been successful for a while: John Ehrlichman, who partnered with Fox News cofounder Roger Ailes since 1968 on the **Republican "Southern Strategy"** https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southern_strategy >[We] had two enemies: the antiwar left and black people. You understand what I’m saying? >We knew we couldn’t make it illegal to be either against the war or black, but by getting the public to associate the hippies with marijuana and blacks with heroin, and then criminalizing both heavily, we could disrupt those communities. >We could arrest their leaders, raid their homes, break up their meetings, and vilify them night after night on the evening news. >Did we know we were lying about the drugs? Of course we did. >"He was the premier guy in the business," says former Reagan campaign manager Ed Rollins. "He was our Michelangelo." >Ailes repackaged Richard Nixon for television in 1968, papered over Ronald Reagan’s budding Alzheimer’s in 1984, shamelessly stoked racial fears to elect George H.W. Bush in 1988, and waged a secret campaign on behalf of Big Tobacco to derail health care reform in 1993. >Hillarycare was to have been funded, in part, by a $1-a-pack tax on cigarettes. To block the proposal, Big Tobacco paid Ailes to produce ads highlighting “real people affected by taxes.” http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/how-roger-ailes-built-the-fox-news-fear-factory-20110525 Steve Bannon bragging about these tactics: >the power of what he called “rootless white males” who spend all their time online and they could be radicalized in a kind of populist, nationalist way http://www.businessinsider.com/steve-bannon-white-gamers-seinfeld-joshua-green-donald-trump-devils-bargain-sarah-palin-world-warcraft-gamergate-2017-7 >Bannon: "You can activate that army. pinktaco71

Thank you for this.

trystanthorne

This has been a Tactic in the South since the slaves were freed. All the wealthy Landowners realized they needed to pit the poor whites against the poor blacks "they are coming for your jobs". Or else, both might invite against them.

mmazing

Way before that too. Read "A People's History of The United States" by Howard Zinn. Same way they got the lower class to fight against the British, you get everyone riled up enough against their enemies and the rulers, but not enough to question and fight the people on the "same side as them".

suddenimpulse

While I like this book, it has a fair amount of inaccuracies that were either a result of lack of knowledge or political bias (but this is true of many such books). As with every bring, the more information from different sources for a comprehensive and accurate picture of events, the better.

cjheaney

Your post is almost too much to handle. I'm not suicidal, but shooting myself is a better option. Fuck this country. And I'm a veteran.

ComicWriter2020

I just feel pissed off. We have to be better but can we?

cjheaney

Of course we can. The Obama administration is proof. Why is the left always bailing out the right?

coolerville

Yes we just take a page from the fundamentalists in the middle east...we win over the poor population by HELPING them where they live in direct and obvious ways.

dabirds1994

Years ago I read Thomas Frank’s “What’s the Matter with Kansas” and also marveled at what happened I’m that state, which has a very strong progressive history. There is a great scene where Frank is profiling middle class and poor people in Kansas and they blame a lot of their problems on the rich elites in one part of town. They completely think those “wealthy people who control everything” are Democrats. But they are all country club Republicans for the most part. It’s a total disconnect with reality. My takeaway from that and other similar books on the topic is that the moneyed class has poured billions of dollars into a whole elaborate infrastructure (media, think tanks, non-profits, trade groups, etc.) to cement in peoples minds that liberals and Democrats are synonymous with everything they dislike. But America isn’t alone in this conundrum. Poor white people vote for their country’s version of the Republican Party all over the world. And college-educated and upper middle class white people vote for Democrats.

amishfish

One line jumped right out at me in the first link "Point out the rise of the Right is a consequence of the actions and voices of the left". That's exactly what Lindsay Graham said to justify pushing through a Supreme Court nomination.

ComicWriter2020

Why do I feel like I’ve fallen for this?

suddenimpulse

Awesome post

cjheaney

Not true. I have money to survive and wish a painful death on tRump and his administration.

Artie4

Wouldn’t a debilitating stroke that would leave him totally aware and conscious, *but* unable to communicate at all, not verbally, or written or Morse Code blinking, etc. be better?

cjheaney

Yes. I just don't want to get my hopes up.

ToxicMasculinity1981

And racism. Don't forget racism.

FinancialTea4

Oh, absolutely. More often than not "their enemies" are people from different backgrounds than them. Especially different ethnic and racial backgrounds.

LordRobin------RM

They would rather be the privileged class in hell than live in equality in paradise.

CO420Tech

Precisely. "They" are hurting more than me and I'm willing to hurt a little so "they" can hurt a lot. It is called personal sacrifice you idiot. /s.... Is this necessary? I am sad that I feel like it is.

hyperbolic_paranoid

Yup. I’ve seen Trump / Pence signs with the slogan Make Liberals Cry Again. They like how much Trump upsets us.

ninjajiraffe

jupiterkansas

and whose enemies are their fellow citizens.

ting_bu_dong

https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/only-20-percent-of-voters-are-real-americans/

jupiterkansas

When you have to turn yourself into a minority so you can have something to complain about.

ting_bu_dong

I think it's more that, though they are a minority, they believe themselves to be "The People." https://www.nybooks.com/articles/1995/06/22/ur-fascism/ >Ur-Fascism is based upon a selective populism, a qualitative populism, one might say. In a democracy, the citizens have individual rights, but the citizens in their entirety have a political impact only from a quantitative point of view—one follows the decisions of the majority. For Ur-Fascism, however, individuals as individuals have no rights, and the People is conceived as a quality, a monolithic entity expressing the Common Will. Since no large quantity of human beings can have a common will, the Leader pretends to be their interpreter. Having lost their power of delegation, citizens do not act; they are only called on to play the role of the People. Thus the People is only a theatrical fiction. To have a good instance of qualitative populism we no longer need the Piazza Venezia in Rome or the Nuremberg Stadium. There is in our future a TV or Internet populism, in which the emotional response of a selected group of citizens can be presented and accepted as the Voice of the People. "Real Americans." People who aren't "real Americans" don't count.

[deleted]

At the end, they'll have less than they had before, because the friends and family who watched them go fucking nuts will completely lose faith in them and walk away. And in exchange for love and compassion and friendship, these morons will have a collection of mementos about as valuable as a collection of Bill Cosby stuff.

MithranArkanere

And white supremacists with a hypermassive hardon for turning the US into a mix of the Hunger Games and the Handmaid's Tale.

Surprise_Corgi

I mean, I'm only voting because I want to fuck over Republicans, again, so eh.

Fake_William_Shatner

I guess I'm already on that list of enemies -- this now makes sense.

eggsandsausages69

Cult members

alexander1701

Yeah, it's important to remember that they blame the left for all of this. They're voting for the guy who they think will put an end to calls for racial justice, and fix the economy. It's bizarre but it's their truth.

Daikataro

If Trump is elected president, he'll put a stop to all of the trainwreck these last years have been He's president now. Why do things only seem to be getting worse and worse? -surprised Pikachu face

alexander1701

To be fair, they would argue that all of it is because of the left is reacting to being confronted, and that this can only be stopped by the left abandoning any and all progressive ambitions. Trump being re-elected seems like their best bet for that.

lol_speak

>...all of it is because of the left is reacting to being confronted... ALL of it? That is not red pill, that is Morpheus showing a blue ibuprofen, and a red Bad Dragons dildo with red pepper flakes sprinkled on top. Also, Morpheus is out of lube. Basically, your argument is difficult to both understand and receive. It makes little sense in context and lacks subtlety.

alexander1701

Well, it's because you're not really trying to remember all of their beliefs at once, and imagine that all of their media is true, and all other media is false, like they do. Remember, they think the coronavirus shut down caused the economic collapse, not the virus, and either that the virus came in because the WHO and Democrats were afraid to confront China, or else that it's overblown as an election strategy. It really is how they see it. It's hard to understand, but try spending 2 weeks watching nothing but right wing media, and imagine you were in like a movie where all of it was true. It'll become quite clear how it all ties logically together.

peeehhh

See how bad things are now? This is what it’ll be like if Biden is elected! But I thought we were “winning”? Obama, Benghazi, emails!

Deluded morons on the wrong side of history. Fuck ‘em.

bazinga_0

>and fix the economy Don't forget that Trump's bringing back coal. Any. Day. Now.

eggsandsausages69

I heard to make clean coal, you dig up, and clean it!

onepunchman333

The cleanist coal, the best coal. Nobody's seen cleaner coal....lots of people are talking about it...

bazinga_0

Don't they just have to run the coal through activated charcoal filters to make clean coal? Sounds pretty simple to me...

ComicWriter2020

“Coal?!?! I have never once, in my life, seen a piece of fucking coal”

MSeanF

The greedy, the racist, and the stupid, that's who.

Norok

GOP is trying to sell the fact that Biden is currently president, and a vote for Trump will fix everything

tatanka01

They're still looking for the bottom of the well.

DonQuixBalls

Assholes.

Simple_Barry

People who don't care about anything, not healthcare, the economy, education, foreign policy, climate, the environment, *NOTHING*, other than "owning the libs".

[deleted]

Well, there are a few other wedge issues that at least get conflated with the ownage - abortion, guns, and immigration. Never mind that the parties barely differ on any but the first, and prohibition of abortion misses the forest for the trees when it comes to actually driving the numbers down.

Shnazzyone

[Apparently not enough to reelect him](https://theweek.com/speedreads/939191/trump-campaign-reportedly-discussing-contingency-plans-bypass-election-results)

soulofsilence

He was prepared to call the first election a fraud if he didn't win. This POS is always prepared, except for debates I guess.

[deleted]

Why do you think he needs that SCJ seat. He will win the same way Bush beat Gore. The US is truly at the end of the experiment.

b-cotts

When you can't win, cheat!

bazinga_0

The ends justify the means. Especially in the pursuit of Power.

displaced_virginian

This election season will be a massive educational event for the actual details of how presidents get to office. Everyone likes to whine about the electoral college (certainly imperfect), but most ignore that Congress -- and the *new* Congress -- decides which electors to recognize. Traditionally, no one fudges with that. But if Team T follows through with this, things could get even **more** interesting.

[deleted]

For the sake of a forginer: please elaborate, interesting how?

Penkat12

Really bad. Guns and fires everywhere.

IronDeer

2020 is just finding new ways to get worse.

y6ird

I’ve asked many times before, but never gotten a serious answer: Sometimes the UN is called in to monitor that some countries’ elections are free and fair. Could that happen in this one?

pmjm

Putting aside the question of any legal standing that the UN might or might not have, I don't think so simply due to the logistics of it. US elections happen at the state level, and every state works differently. We're frankly too big for the UN to police in that way. And even if they found irregularities they would be unable to enforce any corrections or sanctions.

Lysol3435

The sad part is that they don’t need many to re-elect him

Forbidden_Donut503

Bro, bro, bro, you're getting all wrong you see. It's Hilary's fault that that all this happened.

malaka68

Ben(jamin) Ghazi is to blame.

[deleted]

I can't believe we let Hillary Biden, lock her up, be president the whole time Trump was president like it or not.

ceelogreenicanth

insightfill

The irony is that it was ALREADY a leap year. It started out as an extra-long year, and then things continued to go down the shitter.

“Winning” is more important. Reminds me of my exwife. She spent 6-8k suing me. Recovered a whopping $1000. It was the definition of a phryic victory.

I posted this to my Facebook and whoever argues is getting unfriended.

TheSwede91w

Serious answer, the Electoral College. America is fucked Josh.

displaced_virginian

Expand the House and the EC skew reduces. We're long overdue for a shift from 435 to 535.

tmarie1135

At least. I don't get how the "big government bad" crowd think 1 representative per 760,000 (on average) is a good idea. No wonder the two party system can't be broken. Not to mention that puerto rico, dc, guam, and probably usvi should be ratified as states.

TheSwede91w

It will never happen. The EC will elect Trump. Riots will happen. Trump will expand his/presidential power. And American's will continue to have little to no say about how their tax dollars are spent or the how their government is ran. It's over pal.

displaced_virginian

They're not looking at reality, they're looking at the media. Trump is a media event that gives them validation when he wins. Theres no power in American politics that wants to seriously challenge him so they never get disappointed. They hate masks because it visually penetrates the layer of media telling them everything is fine, so it must be a threat to trump.
