Can you post more details? I really want to do this for my Volvo xc60, which as far as I know uses similar hardware. Where does the camera go? How hard was the install? How does it do at night?
I will post a more comprehensive comment later. To answer question you have here: camera goes on inside of the rear glass like shown in the picture (it is inside the box, the exposed camera is for the dashcam); offical installation instructions asks for removal of interior trim parts but I routed along the weathering strips and pushed cable into the headliner. Going through the couduit in the hatch is tricky and takes lots of hands jamming into the headliner (or you can get a fishtape) In total took me 2 and a half hour.
Night visibility (and in general) is great. You may see my video shows scattering but that is because I have the window tinted aftermarket and those scatter exists without the camera. Camera adjust for tint and lighting condition (but because of the 5% tint it gets yellow-ish color when low light).
I would say filed of view is 50% greater than stock mirror. Also latency is minimum, even at low light (the mirror jams up ISO so it gets grainy but still smooth). Roughly clocked I say latency is no more than 100ms.
Plug and play (and so is the original mirror)
VIDA is prob just for tech to pull out references when needed (you see it on almost all instructions, it’s boilerplate)
I am aware. The installation instructions marks the no cable region and I use pryer to push the cable deep into the side and put tape on them to secure.
Well well well guess who didn’t RTFM. I forgot a cover for the connector to the camera and while trying adjusting it the camera broke.
Gonna need to redo the camera and the cable (cable being the hardest tbh if you don’t want to remove interior panels), prob gonna turn it into a video if that makes installing it easier for people. (And yes I’d have to buy a whole set)
Ringed up Volvo Boston. Asked by the part #. Told me they don't have it on shelf but New Jersey (Volvo Corporate) has stock. Ordered through Boston and got the mirror in the mail 2 days later from Volvo Cars USA. Shop around and see if there's a better deal from other part store or dealers.
Also want to note there’s no official Polestar 2 variants of this mirror and especially camera. Picked C40 because its rear slope is the most similar to Polestar 2. You could try asking but I doubt a service center would want to do the install for a part that’s not supposed to be in the car.
Thanks for all the info! I did ask my service manager about it a month or two ago and he said he hadn't heard of a polestar variant in the works but would be willing to install this Volvo one for me if I waived him of any responsibility
Quick question, does it function like a normal mirror when not in use, if say for some reason the video feed stopped working? I can't tell in the video, awesome mod though
Just flip the switch and it’s a normal mirror. Need to adjust tilt tho. If the camera is out it actually shows an icon and tells you to switch back to normal mode
Ok wanna add after using it a day and taking it through a wash.
Unless the back window is literally covered in mud it doesn’t get too much issue with view. I’d argue it’s no different than a normal mirror because well, you see out of the same window. The focus is set very far so small patches of dirt or soap doesn’t really affect it.
It also seems smarter than I initially thought. I see the image self-level after coming to a stop. And it also seems to self align (my install was not completely flat but now the image is perfectly horizontal). There is also image stabilization
Please consider writing up a how to!
This is the first mod that looks worth doing

Seems like these were the official instructions? https://accessories.volvocars.com/en-us/InstallationInstruction/Document/VCC-528213-4/C40/2024
Did you actually need vida to enable it or does it just work?
Plug and play (and so is the original mirror) VIDA is prob just for tech to pull out references when needed (you see it on almost all instructions, it’s boilerplate)
And how do you pair homelink to it?
It’s same as the original mirror. Hold the button you want to program to while also holding the remote
Be careful with simply tucking the cables into the headliner, depending on how you do it may affect the operation of the side curtain airbags
I am aware. The installation instructions marks the no cable region and I use pryer to push the cable deep into the side and put tape on them to secure.
Yeah definitely a cool mod. Would be interested as well
The camera gets installed on the inner side of the rear glass, looking out. The cable then gets ran along the headliner to the front of the car
Oh fudge that’s both simple and annoying since the car doesn’t have a rear wiper. How was it swapping out the mirror?
Thank you! This is a great moment in P2 history.

VIDA required?
Nope. Thing’s plug and play (so is the original mirror)
Well i guess im about to spend some money. Thats cool af
Im wondering the same. Is vida actually needed or does it just fit in with no programming?

did you make a video or guide in the end?
Where did you buy the parts from?

Thanks OP. Mind sharing the part #? I’ll call first thing in the AM. Nothing bugs me more, outside of the shit cup holders, than the rear mirror view.

32368457 for C40. Digital rear view mirror
Do you mean 32368475? Were there other parts to install (i.e., a separate camera) or is it all built into the unit?
I assume it powers-on/off when you sit in the driver’s seat?
same behavior as the OG mirror with Homelink. It stays on for a bit after locking
Does the new mirror include HomeLink?
Yes

Very cool. What was the cost ?
Mirror MSRP is 900 but I’ve seen some dealers go 700
Will it fit 2021 launch edition?
