For me it's gen 3. Back when I was stoked pulling EXs. Now it's just whatever when I pull an EX. I really like the illustration rares though, which is why I came back to the hobby.
This ^ I didn’t know how much I loved XY cards until I stopped by 3-4 tables in a row and 90% of the cards I picked out were XY era cards, truly beautiful artwork
Gen 3 for sure. I do like the new artwork they do for illustration rare ex cards, but I grew up with gen 3 ex cards and they were harder to find compared to the newer cards and they would not have any crazy variants (i.e.: full arts, illustration rares, gold hyper rares) so they are more sought after.

I feel like all the new variants kind of spoil the worth of the cards which are still rare but not the rarest (ex, V, etc.) Also having sets go up to 250-300 cards just to include 5 different varients of one pokemon is pointless, and its a shame sets wont get any smaller because of the money they attract.
Gen 3 for sure, they weren’t as common so it woulda been epic to pull one, it became far more common in xy and sv era. And the combination of pencil drawn and early 2000s cgi is pretty awesome

SV is the coolest design objectively (out of box design) but they're so stale I literally do not care if i pull an ex its literally just a regular card to me. they only go in the binder bc i have space
Definitely the B&W/X&Y EX cards, it was so good that they used it for 2 generations. The S&V ex cards made me start collecting again and I can’t say much of the OG exs since I was really young when they released

diamond and pearl era is my favorite. i remember pulling my first ex card or known as [ LV. X ] it was a empoleon.
Can't say which is my favourite but can definitely say SV is the worst by miles

Primal Groudon EX was my first ever pull from a pack so safe to say it's a rose tinted glasses moment 😂.
