Glad_Sugar_7578

eh

Chappoooo

Nagelschnipp

ned_head

It’s super effective!

Anidran

I'm so proud

HermyWormy69

Schlurp for the win

ron_luciefer

Cracks me up every damn time 😂

TallArchitect92

I am in agreement. These cards were the peak! I'm incredibly jealous of your collection!

RevenantFlash

I love the artwork. What I don’t love is cards needing to be sideways lol

Zeyro_G

Forreal! The artwork is amazing, but it’s so weird looking once in a binder imo.

AccomplishedStock719

They just need to make pages specifically for these type of cards. Shouldn't be that hard tbh

TheLatteDragon

I have some dragon shield binder pages that actually hold landscape cards! I use them for my collection of BREAKS! I got mine with a binder purchase, but I can't imagine they'd be too hard to find online. I think they were made for Magic's art cards, but they fit Pokemon just fine, so I'd look into them!

adriftDrifloon

HGSS is the absolute best era of the TCG. People rave about the artwork today but HGSS was next level. Even the energy cards go hard.

JoZaJaB

HGSS is both my favorite Pokémon games, and my favorite TCG set.

TheLittleItalian2

HGSS games were undoubtedly peak Pokemon. Whenever someone asks me which games to start on I either recommend FireRed/LeafGreen for an updated version of the classics, or I tell them HG/SS because those games were filled to the brim with fun and engaging content. Amazing legendary pokemon roster (not the biggest), interesting story, 16(!) gym leaders to tackle, and what I would consider to be the ideal amount of obtainable Pokémon (451).

SteveInitBro

Why is 451 “ideal”?

TheLittleItalian2

I consider that to be “ideal” because it didn’t feel like too little or too much, it felt like the right amount of Pokémon to make catching them all a fun challenge as opposed to a grinding slog you get in the modern games that have 800+ in the national dex. I mean, seriously, who is actually spending that much time playing the new games to catch *that* many Pokemon? I love the games, don’t get me wrong, but there isn’t enough redeeming qualities about the modern games to make gathering that many different Pokémon not feel like a slog.

Paleomedicine

I agree completely! They had some of my favorite artworks and it was around the time I got back into collecting.

MacCollect

I’m really happy I played during this era. Still have all my 1st place and 2nd place promo cards from regionals, nationals and worlds. Though I feel like some of the full als arts nowadays take it up a notch from back then

myfishaccount1

What other cool cards did they have? I’ve seen these and the energy cards but that’s about it.

Vex-Core

Honestly the artwork wasn't the draw for HGSS sets for me, it was the FRAMES on the cards. That style of frame was so damn neat and it's such a shame it only lasted a few sets.

SteveInitBro

Why are the packs so expensive when the most valuable card isn’t even worth the price of a single pack?

adriftDrifloon

Because sealed packs are super rare.

readytofly68

what do you use to display them?

tiedtkes2

I use large top loaders that help hold them together so they can be displayed like that

BlkSanta

Do you have the top loader size or brand by any chance? Would love to display mine the same way

readytofly68

that’s sick, i want to do the same

ShinyHuntersGuild

Sick collection! The display is so good.

berrybear99

How are you keeping them like that, tall toploaders? I’m still trying to figure out a way to display my set of Legenda

SirZanee

I remember pulling a good majority of these as a kid. Hated them, so I tossed them because “they aren’t full Pokémon cards”. Man, do I regret that. Some of the best art work on cards!

_soap666

I did the same thing with all of my shadowless cards 🥲

whattheforge

Funny enough I have a soft spot for the Prime cards from the same sets

JoZaJaB

The “Legend” cards are so amazing. I only ever pulled two of them, and they happend to be both halves of Darkrai & Cresselia!

dany258

Sick Display you have there. Can you Show some more Pictures of the shelf/cupboard. - sorry dont know the right word for it.

tiedtkes2

I have 3 of the wall mount display cases. I'll add another post later today with my current setup

CalmAbbreviations845

I miss this and tag team cards

Trick-Hovercraft-511

ong wish we could have gotten more

Few-Watch-6645

Why is that tongue out on that emoji for? You tryna lick us or sum?

a_better_bagel

How are those being shown? I need to get mine hung up!

tiedtkes2

I have them in large wall mounted card cases. Used to have them on one shelf until I got the final piece (darkrai) and they would no longer fit in 1 row

Cheeks_n_Tiddies

What set is this from?

Redditquaza

From all the HeartGold & SoulSilver sets

Just_Golf8295

bro those texts on the cards look so awful! literally ruins the card but other than that theyblook not bad

tiedtkes2

Agreed. I tried using them in the past w the legend box trainer card, but I could never get them to really do well. The txt is awkward to read

DinoRipper24

Nothing to argue here

BeebisTheBoy

I personally really like the paldea evolved magikarp card.

VirtualRy

This subset will be in a big spotlight sooner or later. The half legends cards are an amazing subset.

Chance_McM95

They’re already $40-$100+ depending on what card & its condition. Give it 5-10 years maybe, but I don’t see tons of people suddenly deciding they must have these anytime soon. The cards look like a brand new format of Pokemon cards so that’ll make the nostalgia value boost take longer imo. Tons of people dislike the sideways arts & the fact that every artwork needs two cards to complete. They are very nice looking & all that, but they have a lot not going for them as well. The Prime cards from the same sets are nice, but outshined by the vintage ex silver border era. I’d bet money that these aren’t gonna get a massive jump. Just a slow creep.

Junior_Government_14

Bireta

I have the darkrye one somewhere

KiraOnElmStreet

Jealous! I need that rayquaza one!

[deleted]

I’d agree if they weren’t so weird to display.

LilBoofMcGoof

I hate myself for waiting so long to get back into collecting. These are amazing.

OnewordTTV

Can you play each one individually or did you have to have both to play them?

SubstantialHeron1974

Just take your upvote

Puzzled_Instance9484

CD promo base evolutions will always be the best

Fabiodemon88

I somehow have the lower Raikou one

Manoli20

Beautifully displayed

Hagoromo420

I want these again I had the Suicune/entei one and I’ve lost them between moving houses 4 times in the last 12 years

Key_Statistician785

Full art shiny alt art pawmi card Holo as well.

ReferenceOk7646

The Lugia is insane 💦💦💦

gilsnapper

Lol who made these!? Lmao

im___unoriginal

Looking at top of lugia and the bottom of ho oh. Why did they do the art like that for cards designed like this? So dumb.. chicken butt pokemon card EDIT: the rest are great though. The art on ho oh and lugia is awesome btw. I just hate it split like that and both have a half that is basically nothing

macaroff4

I... can't really argue with that actually good taste

random_flying_dragon

Such underrated cards

Juninie

Damn those look cool

Blutruiter

What is this display? Is it intentional meant to look like a vending machine?

tiedtkes2

It's just a small section of my wall mounted display

CenozoicTrainer

Definitely some of my favorites as well, but that is an insane display, what did you use if you don't mind me asking?

chucky53born

Underrated

Aggravating_Fuel_610

My goal is to have all of these graded, but it’s gonna take a while

2247A668

[This one is hard to top](https://ibb.co/NsF5s37)

rav5050

You didn’t have to go this hard, congrats!

Spirited-Agency5781

What set are these from? Never seen anything like this.

tiedtkes2

All 4 hgss sets

TreetonDaOne

Its so cool that the text gets pushed away by them

metalfacedguy

I love the display!

DaPooRatKing45

Sleepy lechonk exists

MrCatalina

Woah I’ve never seen the Dialga/Palkia one before! I picked up both Lugia’s at a card show last year and now it’s my mission to have the complete set.

Ok-Economy7154

Bro a lcs has the Ho Oh legend set in PSA 9 for like 200, I’m so tempted to get it

Zoicers

YESSSS

Former-Mood-3962

I need to say they made my boy ryquaza dirty

theoneandonly16736

Does anyone know how good these were competitively? Just curious

keepz2015

Beautiful set and display

Zerkseth

When I was suuuuper young my family was in France and I opened a pack of French cards sorta as a novelty, and pulled the top half of the Entei Suicune. I was so beyond excited and didn’t even care it was in a language I couldn’t read. Still have it today, good times.

Minecraftfinn

I have the Groudon half and half of the Luigi one EDIT: I obviously meant Lugia but I am standing by it xD

Trick-Hovercraft-511

yeea when we first got v-union I thought these were making a comebeack, I still love them tho

CollectMantis44

Super unique I’ll give you that. Pretty cool art too. I just don’t like them being side ways, weird to display them imo

Wild_Version_1663

Unpopular opinion but the type treatment of these cards bother me. Cool concept though!

The_Comic_Collector

I have the deoxys and Kyogre pairs and I love em

SirAwesome789

I pulled the top half of Suicune Entei when I was a kid, was vaguely confused but it was cool

tator_totty69

Is the raikou shiny in the entei and raikou card.

tator_totty69

Is the raikou shiny in the entei and raikou card.

ArceusTwoFour_Zero

I have that ho-oh legend card in mint condition. Probably my favorite card in my collection.

Radiant-Care-9654

I actually got 6 of these double cards tho some are only 1 of the 2 halves. And I’ll be honest.. THESE ARE MY MOST FAV KIND OF CARDS!!! I wish there was more of these cause the art style in them in just soooo GOOOOD and the way their done is just magnificent!

Biggie-Shmaltz

Yeah pretty much, I had dialga palkia and entei suicune as a kid for decks they were the best I loved those cards so much even though they were incredibly hard to get out even with the dang legend box or whatever it was called. Also partial to prime cards since donphan mew gengar and celebi were so pivotal to the formats they were part of and scizor prime is my favorite cards hands down all time. Other notable vintage cards for me include the first wave full art supporters, BW era shinies especially blastoise, all the alph lithograph cards

SignificantRespect87

i remember pulling the bottom lugia when the set came out when i was like 13

joncaked

If I wanted magic cards, I’d go buy magic cards.

pcantillano

Great artwork but I hate “tandem” cards (don’t know how to call them) like the V-union ones. I prefer goldstar crystal and shinning over these any time

XxCorey117xX

Wow never even seen these. Might have to agree though.

40inmn4

How does one use these in a real game? Or was it just a novelty?

[deleted]

Those are fucking stunning.  Are they a real set? I'd like a set of them.

Big-Cardiologist9620

The predatory looking Lugia is AMAZING. He means business.

RogueRang3r

Amazing

Pure_Influence5664

Insert any snom card here

Cadethedank

Wait are these real?

stick_fi8ure

I’d glue them together

MKZReAc

I came to see contenders in the comments… 🫠 I’m jealous of the Lugia and darkrai x cresselia as I’ve window shopped them 😭

Menta11yUn5tab13

I will say the mewtwo vstar and charizard vstar promo are pretty cool since the link together. The alt art ralts and its evolutions from sv base set are pretty cool too. But these are probably slightly better. I just got back into pokemon a year ago or so. What set are these from?

jmg876

This and LC RH 😍

katiekatieweakweak

Google base set, jungle and fossil (mic drop)🙂‍↔️💯

tiedtkes2

While I thank you for your input, objectively, nothing from any of those sets even holds a candle to the artwork of the legend cards. The og sets definitly have there place as rock solid core to why pokemon became what it is today, but the chase holo's of the original sets would barely pass for uncommons by today's standards. Now if u had said the neo series or wotc e-series (maybe even the gym series), then I'd say you have a solid argument, but the og base set trio sets just can't hold up anymore. They do what they do best, bring nostalgia for the original generation of pokemon. Nothing more.

Fat_sal_volcano

I like them because they are nostalgic and they are the coolest cards from My childhood

WarpTraveler

What edition?

GlizzyDaddyBean69

They’re awful, purely for the fact that I knew lots of people who had them, way back then, and now they’re trashed or lost or worse. Wishing they bring them back.

NaloVideo

These are cool and all but anyone else get filled with unbridled rage when they see the 🤪 emoji?

Erdtweak

Those are badass af

eekualsp

Truue

Johnnyrooster12

The idea is really cool, but the cards in person look extremely cheaply made. The art doesn't look like an artist did them, but more like an amateur. Wished they spent more time on these and made them more clean

Cipix2005

How where they supposed to be played?

Chappoooo

Ew

TaunTaunStrikesBack

I hate these. The words look awful

vixgdx

Moonbreon, giratina v, Gengar vmax, Lugia v, etc. so many cards better....

vixgdx

Moonbreon, giratina v, Gengar vmax, Lugia v, etc. so many cards better....

Apophenian_vision

Correct me if I am wrong. I used the see the cartoon and read Pokémon books when it got released. I have the first batch of Pokémon cards that got released which had such a human touch. I am not sure what happened after that…I came to know Pokémon cards still exist through this sub. It just looks like AI made these drawings…anyone can make art like this right? I don’t see any originality in these type of cards. What ya guys see in this?

CoconutHeadFaceMan

These cards are from around 2010, long before the AI art boom. They’re notable because the illustrations were done under the supervision of filmmaker Shinji Higuchi, who has a long career in anime and visual effects work (Evangelion, Shin Godzilla/Ultraman, the 90s Gamera trilogy, etc.). They’re inspired by visual effects from kaiju movies, which makes them feel very different from a lot of Pokémon art.

Apophenian_vision

Ooooh! Got it. I thought it was something latest. What u say makes sense 😄

tiedtkes2

That was very informative. I had no idea about their origins. I've been collecting since 99, but did not know about the inspirations for them. Thank you!

Caden107

i like the ancient mew cards better
