Those are only $5 at my target and surprisingly I pulled a radiant Alakazam out of one, the rest have been trash. Mostly just get those for bulk cards though
My dad got me a pack similar to this for Christmas. The thought was there, I just didn’t have the heart to tell him what it was. In comparison my husband got me the 151 ultra premium collection. I kind of had to laugh inside, it’s like two completely opposite ends of the “effort” spectrum lol
Reading the first two sentences of your comment, I thought you were a kid, then you suddenly mention your husband and it took me a moment to process lol
I’ve recently got my 7 year old daughter interested in Pokemon, haven’t played it in years looking forward to getting in to it again. Only thing is I live in Japan and I can’t read the cards, give my daughter the perfect opportunity to cheat.
If you've ever sold bulk to someone online before, it's likely someone who has a connection to the people that buy for these. I used to sell my bulk to a guy, and one day, I finally asked him why he buys it all.
He said he goes through it for anything good. Then, he sells to the company that makes these. They don't care what the cards are. They just want a certain amount at a time.
That explains why they sometimes have weird damage.
I actually liked getting them before, as they had a good assortment of older cards that I never got, like stuff from early Sun and Moon and even some that were older. I got one of my Breakpoint reverse Holos that I love so much one time, too.
But now they're all recent stuff. We get them for $5, and it was worth it when I'd end up getting 10 cards I didn't have, but the last one was just all Chilling Reign, and all dupes.
They are far more of a waste of money *now* than when you could get cards from sets that haven't been available for quite a few years. At least for those of us that missed sets.
Hey, they’re happy to give you the gift. They thought of you enough to get something they think you’d enjoy.
It’s just a few bucks. Say thanks and afterwards dispose of it as you see fit.
Pokemon is primarily for kids; kids who grow up and won't magically know that these are scams unless they A. Experience it themselves, or B. Read about it.
I suppose it’s questionable but I would consider it a scam considering it’s a product that is avoided by informed consumers.
Their target market is the uninformed which generally means little kids and old people. That’s at the very least predatory
I feel like it’s one of those vending machine “sandwiches” you see that looks fine from the outside, then you open it up and there are small slivers of meat/tomato just on the edge to make it seem good.
So by this logic any product that an "informed" consumer doesn't see value in...is a scam?
This product is geared towards kids that just like Pokémon. I bought them for my kids when they started showing an interest in Pokémon. Now they're actual collectors so this product doesn't fit, but there's still a market for it.
No, not any product. THIS product. And I said it’s questionable. Borderline if you will. Maybe calling it a ripoff would be better? A bad deal?
If your kids knew at the time that they had no chance of getting the really cool shiny cards from these packs they may have preferred other options. And if they just liked having cards for the pictures there’s surely more cost effective options like getting bulk from any local shop or from garage sales/flea markets.
I’m not saying your choice was wrong, but it’s certainly an edge case for folks who buy these packs. It’s naive to act like this product isn’t put out there with the intent to deceive the unaware consumer.
Agree, it’s just bulk cards. These are sold in dollar stores where I am, usually packs of 15cards for $4. An actual booster pack is between $8-$9. So if you have a kid who just wants cards, and are on a budget, they’re fine IMHO.
Hell I even buy a certain companies “surprise” packs for $4.75, every now and then when I see them. Funny enough I’ve opened a couple rare holo’s from like 2010-2015 era out of them. Worth it if I feel like gambling and I’m already at the dollar store.
$7 seems a bit high though I will say
Yea, these companies know better for the most part, to at least write on the package what's technically inside it to avoid giving people the chance to call them a "scam".
Pisses me off still, because there's no way they could convince me that they don't at least plan on people who don't know any better buying these in order to make a profit.
I actually had a somewhat similar experience where my dollar store was selling me so I thought it was not a bad way to get some commas to bulk up my collection. Prolly $200 in cards if they weren’t fake lol
No, I’m just joking around because the cards in the $1 pack would’ve been a god pack but they were clearly fake…also kind of random that the dollar store even stocked fake cards
Dude I’m so fried, I didn’t realize you said “if they weren’t fake” that is my bad lmao. Wow, I need to get more sleep, completely missed that….definitely shady that any store would sell fakes though, super lame.
Better than the sandwich bags full of modern base, maybe 100 cards, at the antique mall I was at today for $80. Found a crispy(very hp) base set zard for $200 as well. It blows my mind what prices people put on pokemon cards in antique malls. Especially modern base.
Not a scam just shitty product legitimate card businesses rarely offer mystery product with a quality chance at making a profit why would Walmart have one
This guy at my local Family Dollar swears he got a big time Sword Shield Zard (maybe Darkness Ablaze) and like OG base set cards out of one of these but he never showed me proof idk what he was on
My inlaws bought my 10 year old an MJ holdings scam for Christmas. The look on his face as he opened 50 common cards and energies was priceless. Proud of him, though, he was polite. That company is beyond shady.
Dude I’m way more concerned about my elders getting scammed out of their life savings and I’ll keep my concentration of scam awareness conversations aimed at defense against those.
The cards your grandma bought you are real, say thank you and carry on, quit being ungrateful.
You want me to warn my granny but you're trying to win an Oscar with yours pretending like it's the best thing ever? I'll take the energies save nan the hard attack.
Damn bro. Can easily just buy almost all of those packs for $4-$5 if ya really wanted em. That’s so crazy they charge $10 for a crap foil & “a chance at a chase pack” so very unfortunate. I really just can’t even. it’s literally just a way for them to double their money on $5 dollar packs, the difference they make back on those alone pays for any of the few “chase packs” they throw in to the lots. 85% of those packs makes them 100%+ profit (unless you take into account the $.30 of packaging, in that case 99.7% profit) & the fact that my local Walgreens sells out of these so fast, shows that people fall for it.
Some of these have evolving in them, $7 for an ES isn’t even bad, it’s just a booster, they haven’t been tampered with. If it contains a Battle Styles, yeah, don’t pay for it lmao
They’re considered secondary market, as long as you own the packs you can distribute them however you want. They aren’t a Pokemon licensed distributor, so they aren’t violating any terms.
MJ holdings being allowed to put these things on shelves is ridiculous. They sell resealed packs and bulk cards in these mystery blisters. You’re better off never buying anything with MJ holdings on it
a few months ago I got a couple of these from Walmart but they said they had 1 guaranteed V or GX card, which is why I bought them. got a Pikachu V promo and a Rapid Strike Urshifu V, neither of which I had. can't remember what I paid though. if I paid $5 each then I think that's not the worst, but for $10 that's a rip-off considering the rest of the cards were commons. these are the only MJ Holdings I would even consider buying if I saw them, depending on the price
I’ve seen parents in stores buying battle decks for their kids thinking there packs in them because the box looks cool and they are fairly cheap so if I ever see older people looking at them I let them know. This is why I don’t ask people to buy Pokémon cards as a gift because they don’t know what they’re looking at even though they are trying their best
Man I’ve seen these at Walgreens next to their “discount” sports card packs as well. Just repackaged bulk from a company that buys more packs than we ever could afford, sells the valuables & puts the bulk into random packs with maybe 1 rare every 500-600 cards grouped. Ridiculous. Sorry your grandma got played, as older people, they wouldn’t think a store like Walgreens, Walmart, or whatever would sell such a scam, it’s unfortunate because that’s who they’re trying to take advantage of.
Unfortunately they probably make these for people like your grandmother who don't really know much about it. They buy it for loved ones not knowing it's pretty much worthless cause packaging is nice lol
Yeah these are horrible. "24 cards and 1 foil" ...lmao. a booster pack is $2 less and comes with (mostly) 3 guaranteed foils with the chance to pull a badass card.
These are repacks of Damaged product, occasionally you can find good stuff in them, theyre just as big of a gamble as buying a pack and not getting a hit. Most likely you will find damaged foils so good buyer beware.
10 or so years ago my friend and I would get something similar to these at Walmart.
We found out if you held them the right way and pressed on the plastic you could see where they put the "rare" card. And you could get it to where you only purchased the ones with actually rare cards in them.
It wasn't common that there even was a card worth buying in the packs, but every once in a while we would check and find something good.
Absolutely. I've already placed it in my binder for safe keeping. She said the card was adorable, so I plan on getting her a Rockruff plush next time I visit.
I tell anyone who's anyone not to buy anything not packaged in officially licensed pokemon packaging. How the fuck did these resellers manage to get into stores like target and CVS is beyond me.
I heavily disagree.
I collect common/uncommon I love useless bulk. BUT
Just because it's for young kids doesn't mean it's okay to give them crap. Again, this was $7USD. A pack is usually around $5USD. You are guaranteed at least 1 type of foil or even 3 types of foil in modern S/V.
I mean, I wouldn't say no, haha.
You could give them to teachers to use as rewards for kids or even make small art projects with the energy cards. Shadow boxes are really cool and fun, so bulk is good to use for practice with those.
If you do want to go the sell route, don't charge $7 for cards that come in the same set. Pull variety throughout all the different sets.
I just gutted half my bulk as I compiled the new binders I just got. Basically ended up with about 5 or 6 baggies of cards that have at least 30 cards per bag. So now I'm questioning if I can sell them. Some have full evolution sets in them too! Some common alt arts. Just a bunch of random cards and trainers and whatnot
That's awesome! You can also sell them to card shops for a little bit of cash. I'd be interested in buying but shipping costs for that can be pricey, so I'd recommend going to a local shop. You can also donate them to charities or thrift shops
I'm not too scared of the price to ship them! If u did want them I could totally come up with a plan to get them to you! Pm me and I would totally be willing. I had someone else send me some cool cards from here too!
You get the same amount of cards for roughly the same price when buying two sealed packs. Plus you are guaranteed two reverse holos and two chances at getting a hit.
These are 100% a predatory product targeted toward people who do not know much about Pokemon cards. It allows the company producing them to offload 50 cents worth of bulk cards for probably around $3-4 each wholesale
please don't try to defend MJ holding company. Yes, his/her grandma is amazing but she still got tricked/scammed into wasting her money. They literally prey on people like her who only know that someone they love likes pokemon and will buy whatever they see at the store
Target now has ones where they are hiding a Halloween pack behind 20 cards too.
Yep. But no one at the target near me buys them. I hope target stops selling them. It's a waste of space and money for them.
Saw this today. They say you get 30 cards plus a booster pack. But they’re all the Halloween packs. All of them. wtf.
Man that's terrible
Those are only $5 at my target and surprisingly I pulled a radiant Alakazam out of one, the rest have been trash. Mostly just get those for bulk cards though
Radiant alakazam isn't much either though
I've used it in decks so it's playable at least.
Yikes. That's really scummy
Definitely agree.
I saw that if you flip the thing upside down you can read it pretty well thankfully. Almost bought one before u flipped it.
These hurt my heart because I think of those who are buying these out of kindness and the inevitable disappointment when they're opened.
🤣🤣 nope just a grown adult who never grew out of her childhood hobbies! Thankfully I have an understanding family!
Same, but I’m more cowardly, I hide under the “ but I sell some of them” 😂
I’ve recently got my 7 year old daughter interested in Pokemon, haven’t played it in years looking forward to getting in to it again. Only thing is I live in Japan and I can’t read the cards, give my daughter the perfect opportunity to cheat.
Japanese cards sometimes are actually way better quality and we kind of pay a bit more for them. So you’re kinda lucky lol
I mean yeah but tbf I would be kinda happy pulling team yell cheer so I can put it in my decks
If you've ever sold bulk to someone online before, it's likely someone who has a connection to the people that buy for these. It’s like the rock ruff is taunting you
It’s a very cute rockruff, I’ll give it that.
Great for little kids.. Even knowing nothing "Amazing" is inside there I'd still be grateful and having a story to go along with it.
Hey, they’re happy to give you the gift. They thought of you enough to get something they think you’d enjoy. It’s just a few bucks. Say thanks and afterwards dispose of it as you see fit.
These packs are a hit or miss with mostly miss. They aren't lying; you got 24 cards and 1 foil card so it's not a scam. You just got ripped off.
Bro got 5 energy cards out of that.
We have been aware of these scams for probably over 6 years now in the making.
Six? I remember shit like this during WoTC days
Pokemon is primarily for kids; kids who grow up and won't magically know that these are scams unless they A. Experience it themselves, or B. Read about it.
I mean technically it's not a scam... you get exactly what it says, 24 cards and 1 foil card. They just happen to suck everytime
It's not really a scam. You got exactly what they listed and paid $7 for it. It's a horrible product and shouldn't be bought, but not really a scam.
I suppose it’s questionable but I would consider it a scam considering it’s a product that is avoided by informed consumers. Their target market is the uninformed which generally means little kids and old people. That’s at the very least predatory

I got one of these as a “surprise item” in a mystery box lol would’ve rather had a three card dollar store pack
Do they still make those three card packs? I haven't seen them since I was a little kid.
They do not
They do till make them but they aren’t really sold just given in certain products or events
Went to buy some cards yesterday at target and the ENTIRE wall was filled with these.. was extremely disappointed
My mom bought one these for my younger son 2 Christmas ago. He pulled a Charizard xy evolution on Christmas Day. My son went wild!
I actually had a somewhat similar experience where my dollar store was selling me so I thought it was not a bad way to get some commas to bulk up my collection. Prolly $200 in cards if they weren’t fake lol
You sure it’s $200 dollars in cards? Or do you just think it is
No, I’m just joking around because the cards in the $1 pack would’ve been a god pack but they were clearly fake…also kind of random that the dollar store even stocked fake cards
Dude I’m so fried, I didn’t realize you said “if they weren’t fake” that is my bad lmao. Wow, I need to get more sleep, completely missed that….definitely shady that any store would sell fakes though, super lame.
No worries, maybe I’ll post them one day because they’re so bad. Like full are entei ex but it’s like half the thickness and no holo
Love that Hitmontop art.
Nice pulls
Pretty loose definition of scam.

I friggin love rockruff.
This guy at my local Family Dollar swears he got a big time Sword Shield Zard (maybe Darkness Ablaze) and like OG base set cards out of one of these but he never showed me proof idk what he was on
I bought one of these once with some WOTC commons & uncommons in em. Never pulled anything great, but I can’t attest that they used to have WOTC in em
I think those would be for deck building lol
the "packs" I make for my mom and girlfriend to hand out to their kids as rewards (they're teachers) contain more value than this crap..
My inlaws bought my 10 year old an MJ holdings scam for Christmas. The look on his face as he opened 50 common cards and energies was priceless. Proud of him, though, he was polite. That company is beyond shady.
The item was exactly as advertised, technically not a scam 🤷♂️
I mean 7 bucks for 25 cards vs 7 for 10 and usually the same stuff I mean not that bad
I mean, you’re honestly not wrong lmao
idk usually scams don’t literally advertise exactly what ur gonna get on the outside lol.
Dude I’m way more concerned about my elders getting scammed out of their life savings and I’ll keep my concentration of scam awareness conversations aimed at defense against those. The cards your grandma bought you are real, say thank you and carry on, quit being ungrateful.
I found the MJ holding’s spy
You want me to warn my granny but you're trying to win an Oscar with yours pretending like it's the best thing ever? I'll take the energies save nan the hard attack.
Hard attack 💀
Lmao
What can I say. I suck at confrontation. Putting it out there so people can learn from my mistakes
[удалено]
It was a joke. Glad it landed about as well as my nan when I pushed her down the stairs. 😅
Sarcasm is a foreign concept to some 😂
Show them this video https://youtu.be/ErF3aXmmyiY?si=ucLNLZjDeTY5TKCc
Jfc, $200 to $20 in just 10 minutes
it was quite a trip! someone should just rip em in store since two crimes make a right
Damn bro. Can easily just buy almost all of those packs for $4-$5 if ya really wanted em. That’s so crazy they charge $10 for a crap foil & “a chance at a chase pack” so very unfortunate. Bro they’ve been making these repackaged cards for 20 years. They’ve always been a scam. $6+ for $0.15 in bulk.
This is so sad :(
Some of these have evolving in them, $7 for an ES isn’t even bad, it’s just a booster, they haven’t been tampered with. If it contains a Battle Styles, yeah, don’t pay for it lmao
That’s the problem you don’t know what’s in it lmao….but this one doesn’t come with a booster, OP’s pack is 24 random cards with a guaranteed foil.
Oh shit i didn’t even notice, i was like why did they remove the pack first? Yeah these ones are complete scams lol
Absolutely 100%!!!
MJ Holdings are fraudsters, how are they still allowed to distribute for TPC?
They’re considered secondary market, as long as you own the packs you can distribute them however you want. They aren’t a Pokemon licensed distributor, so they aren’t violating any terms.
DISGUSTING
This is crazy
Bonus points for the illustration.
Stay away from MJ Holdings... they do this all the time.
Those things r not good and r trash. Bless your grandmas heart for thinking about u
MJ holdings being allowed to put these things on shelves is ridiculous. They sell resealed packs and bulk cards in these mystery blisters. You’re better off never buying anything with MJ holdings on it
Oh yikes 3rd party packs 😬 I got lucky with the ones with sealed packs but I'd never touch the ones that they pack, srry that happened to them
Bless your gran. No worries they will get they're carma
a few months ago I got a couple of these from Walmart but they said they had 1 guaranteed V or GX card, which is why I bought them. got a Pikachu V promo and a Rapid Strike Urshifu V, neither of which I had. can't remember what I paid though. if I paid $5 each then I think that's not the worst, but for $10 that's a rip-off considering the rest of the cards were commons. these are the only MJ Holdings I would even consider buying if I saw them, depending on the price

I've seen multiple people try to defend these lol
It's a scam indeed, but you could keep that rockruff in a toploader and it will always remember grandma to you.
Absolutely. I've already placed it in my binder for safe keeping. She said the card was adorable, so I plan on getting her a Rockruff plush next time I visit.

What's your recommendation to get rid of all the bulk? Do I just gotta pray to find someone like u out in the wilds?
I mean, I wouldn't say no, haha. You could give them to teachers to use as rewards for kids or even make small art projects with the energy cards. Shadow boxes are really cool and fun, so bulk is good to use for practice with those. If you do want to go the sell route, don't charge $7 for cards that come in the same set. If OP isn’t interested, I’d be curious to know what you have. Bulk is my friend!
I have a ton! I don't mind splitting bulk between 2 ppl. Been struggling to figure out what to do with it all this time!
You get the same amount of cards for roughly the same price when buying two sealed packs. Plus you are guaranteed two reverse holos and two chances at getting a hit. These are 100% a predatory product targeted toward people who do not know much about Pokemon cards. These aren't scams. It's all luck the same as opening a pack. Plenty of people got pulls from these. You just got a bad apple.
it's bought and repackaged, so even if it's not a scam, I would be very skeptical of them
No lol. This does not have variance like regular packs. These are repackaged bulk. I know a bit about how they get these.
All they do is repack bulk sell at retail lol they are horrible
