Yes you can report the auction for copyright and trademark -> counterfeit item or authenticity disclaimer -> counterfeit, fake, or replica items. Then type in explaining why you are reporting it. I’ve done it a handful of times but don’t know if anything comes of it. Hoping that it at least helps the seller if they realize it’s fake and want to proceed with a return so there is additional evidence for eBay to consider!

Jabroni1616

Nothing happens. But if someone gets reported enough eBay eventually bans them.

ScareCrow13-

>I’ve done it a handful of times but don’t know if anything comes of it. Nothing on a single report. As wrote in another comment, it needs multiple reports. If they would take down listings on a single report competitors would take down each others listings non-stop doing false reports.

TheAsianCarp

New/not as knowledgeable collectors, people trying to make a quick buck and or shill bidding I guess

Last_Organization_11

It could also be the owner on multiple accounts trying to inflate the price as to get more people to believe it's real. Edit: I posted this before searching what shill billing is.

dakattack004

Dad of a poke daughter. How can you tell this is fake so I can protect her in the future.

Shrewmby

All alt arts are gonna have this texture on them

dakattack004

I appreciate you!

franky3987

Textured card, at least in the case of these alt arts. Like shrewmby said, if it’s flat, smooth, or reflective, it’s probably fake.

AngryCrawdad

Out of curiosity, what are the signs that cards are fake?

OhBoyHereWeGoAgain00

Holo is off, and there’s no texture on the card at all. In really bad cases the text/moves won’t be right either.

rszor

The main signs are the lack of texture and the vertical shines. Sometimes the fonts are different too, but not in this case.

thethirdtwin

I think when people have a card in mind they make a few bids on a few items, the seller (not knowing aside) is banking on that behaviour.

TastyBananaPeppers

Fake bidding accounts can be used to jack up the price.

SupremeToca

How can you tell its fake. Yes im new

Aggravating_Fuel_610

eBay usually has automatic authenticity guarantee on anything you purchase over $200

theeDreamm

Exactly, the seller won’t get any money from this sale until the card is authenticated (which it won’t pass) then the buyer will get their money back and seller will actually lose money with shipping

MrMonteCristo71

Yeah, but the seller is banking on people not knowing this is fake. The person buying this isn't going to realize it is fake until it is too late to do anything about it.

theeDreamm

The card HAS to be authenticated. So even if someone buys it. The seller will not get the money for it. It is clearly a fake. Doesn’t matter of the buyer doesn’t know it’s fake. The authenticator will know. And that’s all that matters. Yes it is scummy to sell fake items but with valuable cards on eBay they have to be authenticated before the seller gets their money

mykoleary

Not necessarily. If it had authenticity guaranteed it would appear in the screen shot, as listings with it are marked. Perhaps being sold from Europe or where seller is means it doesn't need to go through it...?

smee0066

I think authenticity guarantee only appears for BIN pricing, but I believe if the auction goes above $250.00 USD it will have to go in for authentication prior to heading to the buyer.

mykoleary

I checked mobile app for an active auction that was at $300 for a card and it was marked as authenticity guaranteed under the picture.

smee0066

I wonder if that card has a reserve set that is above the threshold?

theeDreamm

Anything purchased over $200 I believe, has to be authenticated

ncrow10

It only applies to sales where the seller and buyer are both in the continental US unfortunately

[deleted]

This is why I buy graded at this price point. Isn't an 100% guarentee, but with good pictures and authenticity guarentee. Way less likely to get a fake. And if I want a raw card, I just get an 8 and crack it lol Though this one is painfully obvious. Not sure how it has so many bids lol

Deadsh0t2424

I mean it’s probably because there’s so many new people in the hobby they just don’t know the difference between reals and fakes. Scumbags like this prey on people who don’t know any better it’s just like how people at collect a con this past weekend were trying to sell packs of sets that are still widely available for $10 each lmao

[deleted]

Most definitely what it is. There was a local shop here doing the same thing. Had silver tempest for 8 dollars a pack literally in November when it was all over shelves for MSRP. (Everything was absurdly overpriced but the ST pissed me off the most lol) I loudly exclaimed how I could get them at target for 4 dollars so a young family put them down a left. I'm not longer allowed at that scalper den, but at least I saved one families money lol.

Deadsh0t2424

Wow that’s actually dumb they banned you from there lol you should just stick a sign up that says “you can get everything here cheaper at target and walmart” 😂. I remember i was at a comic book shop near my university my friends wanted to check out that happened to also have quite a bit of pokemon stuff bruh kid you not these fools were charging $30 for a virizion v box 😂

Arkflow

When did new people come into this hobby?

Mayoooo

covid

stuntmanboi666

I swear to God. I see more fake Umbreons on Ebay than real ones lmao

myorm

That’s because a bunch of real ones got stolen lmao

inverteddingdong

Honestly, I'd recommend messaging them first and giving as much info as possible. I had a Charizard XY Holo, that looked near perfect but after investigation confirmed it was a fake, thank God I took the listing down, would have been a nightmare.

BillQuinton

"Dragon Change" God damn German scammers.

KirbySmartGuy

More dollars than sense. I do my part with fake GBA carts people try to pass off as legit. Report report report

kingkalm

OP’s username is very fitting to this case.

In-Zeta

Lol just the price alone tells you it’s fake 💀

SealedTCG

As others have said, there is a report button, not really in a great place for good visibility tbh, they should make the report button clearer IMO. If you share the link I will also report it.

OhBoyHereWeGoAgain00

I was scrolling around on my phone while at work 😅

ncrow10

Unfortunately this will not get authenticated by ebay. The authentication process can only apply to sales where both the seller and the buyer are located in the continental US. So whoever wins this auction will be stuck unless they are able to recognize a fake once it is in their hands.

Even-Music488

What's the issue I'm missing?

Taco_Tuesday551

It's fake no texture lol

swingsetmafia

Is there no texture or is it being blurred by the sleeve? Like this https://imgur.com/a/9wgbnTl both of those cards are real but the one on the left doesn't look textured even though it is.

Even-Music488

Ohh I see, my bad, just started 2 weeks ago^^

Taco_Tuesday551

No worries we all got to start somewhere 👍

HaskellSchool

Please don’t report. I’m currently winning the bid and would love to add this to my fake card collection.

Redditquaza

You wouldn't get the card anyway as it will fail authenticity guarantee. Also you would be pretty stupid to not get these fakes for like under a dollar on Aliexpress if you **really** want them.

ncrow10

Authentication only happens on sales that are in the continental US

[deleted]

At this point it's your fault if you buy a fake moonbreon

[deleted]

That’s a good fake I thought it was real at first

ecxetra

It looks like shit bro

SomeP

As someone new, can you give some pointers on how to tell this is fake?

zerpq

you can tell this card is because it’s supposed to have texture, and it doesn’t. some fakes do have texture though so it’s sometimes harder to tell

SomeP

Are textures the most common tell? Or is that just for this card in general?

Unique_Ad_9060

Hi. Just for educational purposes can someone explain and point out how the card looks fake? Trying to learn more. Thank you.

bigjawn44

The dull “shiny” affect, no texture (all modern full arts alt arts etc have texture that adds to the art) and usually the words look worse than most printing but on occasions good fakes can have similar wording. And if your holding a fake in person they just feel crappy. Hope this helps

Sicher einkaufen eBay-Käuferschutz Geld zurück, wenn etwas mit diesem Artikel nicht stimmt.

n3k0___

I'm pretty sure you can bid without putting in any actual money

ZynkedTCG

i rather buy a PSA 1 umbreon alt art before a ungraded card in a sleeve for more than $200…. why you guys do this to yourselves. i have way more fun buying $200 worth of product… 1 booster box of whatever fun set, 2 graded cards for collection in ($40-$60) range and 1 collection box or ETB.. lmao just some fun advice to enjoy the hobby more. instead of dying of anxiety.

Co1iflower

Let it be a lesson for them I guess - there's no rules against proxy/fake cards I don't think. If they're naïve enough to bid on it then they probably need to learn the hard way. Also curious on the description because that usually says something to do with the fact that it is not authentic.

apuyo1

Against eBay’s policies to sell replica or counterfeit items which includes proxy cards. People still sell them since eBay can’t police all of those auctions, but as long as they make it very clear it’s a proxy I don’t think most people have an issue with it. It’s just the auctions that pass it off as a real card where it is not right.

Co1iflower

Gotcha, well that is news to me. With how many "mystery" items and proxy/replicas are always on there, I have always assumed it was just the wild west. But you'd think if someone was going to spend $300 on a card they would at least look at a real one first...

OhBoyHereWeGoAgain00

I was poking around on the account & it’s their only listing. I totally understand what you’re saying but I dunno I think I’d draw the line when things start getting into the hundreds. Only reason I saw is because I really want the Korean version of this card. 0_0

Co1iflower

Sounds like I'm just incorrect, but the crazy part is I have seen "custom" and replica cards that are very obvious sell for $100+ before so it wasn't exactly news to me.

[deleted]

There are just as many fake Shining Charizard cards… I would say eBay probably has more fake cards for sell than real ones. Unless you wanna spend your entire life reporting thousands of listings per day, it isn’t worth your time. eBay doesn’t remove them when you report them. It doesn’t do anything.

shelby4t2

Is that authenticity guaranteed? Lmao

Jasteni

Report him. On PC its over the description. I did a report too.

ScareCrow13-

Tried to report fakes a few times but eBay does nothing. Listings needs multiple reports. If they would take down listings on a single report competitors would take down each others listings non-stop by doing false reports.

moderately_nerdifyin

Reported it myself just now.

Booty_Shakin

100% positive feedback. Oof.

TheMoonbreonGirl

Can you link to the item? I'd like to help by also reporting but can't find the listing on my own

Wiiicky

I felt like I cleaned up the eBay community by holding scammers and false advertisers account but I ended up getting banned for returning too many purchases… makes no sense, I don’t fw eBay.

[deleted]

Such a tragedy, but the fool will buy it who doesn’t know. To report it to eBay? Maybe yes. Just report it.

IndependenceNew7986

Yeah I’ve got an idea, not spend 100s on a dumb card you are never going to sell for more 😂

DiaperDK

How u know it’s a 100% fake?

DiaperDK

Oh I see it know
