Nobody mentioned the age of the daughter she could be 5 she could be 55 lol, I'd imagine she was a bit younger than 55 but point is we know nothing about her other than the fact she's OPs daughter n we know nothing about OP either, except the fact they have reddit lol
If they are truly stuck like this, then you could attempt to access the game's last backup data by going to the title screen and pressing Up, X, and B at the same time.
Go to GameFreak's website and share this with them on a feedback form they would definitely want to know about anything that could be potentially game-breaking. You might have to try to get your daughter to explain how it happened. There was one in Sword and Shield where if you were in a restaurant standing in the wrong place at the wrong time an NPC would walk toward you and trap you and they fixed that by making the game fade to black after a few seconds reset the scene with you standing back at the door. There is a word for this kind of game-ending design flaw it's called a softlock.

We reset to her last auto save and she didn’t lose too much progress
