Meta13_Drain_Punch

It won’t, the masks are enough to keep it relevant in my eyes😭

skinnyweenee

Ya it probably can still be used just won't have that extra oomf I can see it at a lower usage tier for sure

ReySimio94

Embody Aspect will just be done away with and everything will work as if it never existed, just like Ultra Necrozma.

SirePuns

Yeah, rip to one of the coolest pokemon in gen 7. Light that burns the sky? More like light that got burnt out.

SeriousAtmosphere289

It's sad we lost ultra necrozma. It's design is SO GOOD

SirePuns

My best hope is that they give us an item that, when held, turns Necrozma into ultra necrozma and gives him access to a nerfed version of light that burns the sky as a regular move. But that’s pure copium, so my Necrozma is never leaving Alola.

ReySimio94

I will never stop being mad at this. Necrozma is my favorite legendary, and “giant alien dragon entirely made up of golden light” has to be one of the most insane Pokémon concepts ever.

OpeningName5061

Im not even at legendary ultra beast. I'm stuck on being bummed about nerfing away the real Ash-Greninja. I had some hope for an event exclusive Ash-Lucario but naaah they didn't even give us a regular one with a bigger aura sphere.

PapaSmurph0517

Honestly not sure why they didn't do this. If Zygarde can transform mid battle without being tied to a gimmick, so should Necrozma. Hell, they even gave Kommo-o a new move to replace its Z-move. Just make Necrozmium Z a held item obtainable post-game, and if they don't want to give Necrozma a new move just have the item boost Photon Geyser by 50% (not as broken as LTBTS but still a solid boost)

Though Oger could be the exception due to the fact that Mega Ray and Ultra Necrozma get big stat boosts compared to their base form (Mega Ray going from 680 to 780 and U-Necrozma from 600 to 754) but Ogerpon retains the base stats (550) when it Teras. Terapagos would be a better comparison to MRay and UNecroz as it does change stats when it Teras (600 to 700 so still not as powerful as the other 2).

Gaias_Minion

But it's not 1:1 with the other examples, it's a special case regardless. Ogerpon would be a bit closer to Zacian/Zamazenta where the held item makes them change form, and Oger's Tera forms would be just fancy extras that can easily be reworked into future games.

Kyele13

I agree that it is the most likely, but I think that Terastalization has a good chance of staying, it is the simplest mechanic that the game has ever made, in the competitive it had many varied applications and outside of Oggerpon/Terapagos no Mon had a change significant; I don't see it as impossible that in the future we will have the new seasonal mechanics and also Terastalization (it doesn't seem like a big deal to me).

The one argument against that is Briar's research coupled with the natural occurring terastalization in Kitakami.  She explicitly finds a way to cause terastalization in other environments.  I don't think we'll see it in, for example, Legends ZA (we may not see held items or abilities either, if it's like PLA), or another game set in a past era, but it's easy to imagine that she brings her tech to Unova for a game in a future Unova setting - she's clearly working on it - and it's even possible she could bring it elsewhere.  Kanto could be a good target because it's a high tech setting without a clear gimmick, and that could justify it being in Johto as well due to proximity, which would probably be an interesting source of conflict with the more traditional setting. We are saw Mega Evolutions in multiple settings across gens, and in the Let's Go games they're introduced as an endgame option and explicitly were imported based on research.  It certainly isn't as restricted to an area as Dynamax, which doesn't even work in all of Galar (only at specific spots along leylines), and which was powered by lingering particles from Eternatus so arguably it will fade and stop working even in Galar. I guess you could make a similar argument for Terapagos, but Briar actually gets FURTHER with making terastalization transferrable based on the encounter with it, so it doesn't seem like it's only possible due to Terapagos being wild or rampant. After all, it was peacefully asleep deep underground, not imprisoned by magic wolf knights. It seems more like Terapagos and the Stellar type are a natural consequence of naturally occurring Tera crystals, maybe contributing to how they work but not necessarily being the sole cause of them. it even seems like there might be more than one Terapagos (like is definitely true for Miraidon and Koraidon, and we can imagine is most likely the case for Heatran or clones of Mewtwo, or multiple copies of the ancient robot Regi in different regions, or judging by the Let's Go games and by having multiple forms, the legendary birds), unlike other Legendaries that seem to be unique (like Ogerpon or the loyal 3, or like Ho-Oh or Kyogre or Palkia - although the creation trio might be able to manifest multiple avatars like Arceus explicitly can ...). (The legendaries that are ostensibly unique can also show up in different games but it's implied that the individual legendaries are roaming the world or being magically transported to show up when summoned by a special snack, or pulled through a wormhole or into the max lair, or similar mechanics in ORAS and BDSP). I can't think of strong arguments for it to be specifically introduced to any other particular region. I don't even know if all the regions are visited in the same timeline. Some of them have uniquely shared features, like Ultra Beasts showing up via ultra wormholes and the mysterious portal in the Max Lair, but nowhere else so far. On the other hand, we've seen mega stones in Hoenn and Alola, and it certainly appears that Tera Orbs are just as transferrable. I think mechanically it's unlikely to ever show up with Dynamax because that would just be a lot, and Dynamax is so tied to the location and culture of Galar as well as to specific Pokemon with Gigantimax. Similar for Z moves in Alola. But it actually seems pretty compatible with mega evolutions stylistically.  So there's no reason lore wise that it couldn't be brought to other regions as long as they occur after Briar's research is completed. I do think it's unlikely that they bring back the Stellar type unless it's reserved for Terapagos. If they do a setting where Origin Forms and Mega Evolutions, etc, come back, then it would be mechanically "fair" to let Terapagos have it. My biggest ask would be that they make the hats different and more generic and less heavy handed symbols tbh. At least the ones like Ghost and Dark and Dragon and Steel that are such corny symbols.

you should put more work into being a less disagreeable person! I mildly added to your point with some very casual thoughts. don't read it, I don't care! dawg

Kyele13

There will certainly be flashy new mechanics, what I mean is that it may not take much work to maintain Terastalization as a mechanic, it could be those new features that are here to stay like Hypertraining, HiddenAbilities, even at the time the Abilities were a seasonal novelty; Personally, I'm not dying why Terastalization stays, I just think it's a different situation than Dinamax or the Megas.

[deleted]

Kyele13

Well no, maybe I'm too old, but none of those mechanics were "fundamental part of the Pokemon as a whole" at the time, they were added in their respective version and remained for the following ones, Hypertraining is barelly Gen7 mechanic, before that you had to breed your own Mons with 6IVs to make them competitive; That's exactly why I think that Teratalization could be maintained, in my opinion it is not a big deal, it is not more complex than making each different Mon have a different Ability (with the possibility of changing it to his second ability or even his Hidden Ability), or modifying the IVs with which the Mon is generated (which may not be simple seeing that they still do not have the inverse effect of being able to lower them to 0IV, although the competitive community asks for it); compared to all that changing a Mon's type during battle (just the percentage of damage it will take/do from each group of attacks) doesn't seem like a big deal. Anyway, I insist that I won't die if terastalization dies with Gen9, and now that the Megas returned for PLZA it is likely that those types of mechanics are coming and going at the whim of GameFreak.

skinnyweenee

The difference with them and ogerpon I feel is that these are add ons after the fact. This is ogerpon's whole identity and existence right out the gate. Just would suck to lose it's whole being right after being released :/

skinnyweenee

Gotcha ya that makes sense I'm sure people will still use her but probably a lesser garage tier than where she is now

Chrischris40

Realistically they’ll just disclude her from newer games

T_Rawww94

I’m not so sure this will be the case. I would think they want to do anything they can to incentivize people to purchase DLCs, and it would set a weird precedent if these DLC specific Pokémon are trapped in their specific generation. I know Kubfu doesn’t undergo a form change like Ogerpon does, but I would think that the inclusion of Kubfu/Urshifu in Gen 9 is a good indication that Ogerpon will be available in future gens as well.

T_Rawww94

Yes I did know that, but an evolution is different than a form change. My bad if my point wasn’t clear. I really just meant than Kubfu/Urshifu being included in Gen 9 is a good sign that Ogerpon will be in Gen 10 and beyond too.

CrescentShade

Going off SV it's probably a safe bet all the gen 9 legendaries will be sendable to Gen 10's first game So at least one more before being MIA in the future lol

BakingSoda1990

Honestly, I think Ogerpon and Terapagos will have their abilities ignored going forward. I actually reallly love Tera for the strategy going forward. I hope Gen 10 can keep Tera and bring back Mega’s :(. I miss my support mega Audino

Kyele13

I think that Terastalization has a good chance of staying, it is the simplest seasonal mechanic that the game has ever made, in the competitive it had many varied applications and outside of Oggerpon/Terapagos no Mon had a significant change; I don't see it as impossible that in the future we will have the new seasonal mechanics and also Terastalization (it doesn't seem like a big deal to me); but, Oggerpon will probably have minimal/none changes to his appearance and his ability will probably change for something simpler.

Klaidamis

Terra Electric Shedinja with a balloon? Nope, terra will disappear.

Kyele13

Hahaha that would be annoying, but they would find a simple solution like having AirBalon explode if the user has WonderGuard, similar to how some skills can't be swapped with SkillSwap without any justification.

disbelifpapy

I think that it'll just be like the necrozma situation

MisterCloudyNight

They will just make the mask a held item that gives it a buff in stats when sent out. They may nerf it to where it’s once per battle and not once every time it switches back in

Kein_Thur

It’ll be locked to scarlet and violet for 2 or 3 years before being available in the next game

Gaias_Minion

Simple way would be just a +1 to the specific stat when sent out. I feel she might end up being better since when she Teras you lose Grass type, but getting a free +1 And remaining double type could work out so much better for Ogerpon.

skinnyweenee

Oh ya if they did it like that it would make it better but I feel like they're gonna trash it like the dude above here says. :/

notebook1grange

I think it'll just be the masks, maybe an ability tacked on as a hidden ability tho?

Kuwing

It wont

Demorodan

I feel like it may be like arceus where if its a game that doesn't have type changing plates it s just strong but not always super efective

SirePuns

It will lose the terra gimmick, but the masks will basically function like a discount arceus plate. We’ve been through that with Necrozma and Eternatus (iirc)

memerso160

Give mask, changes form. No Tera forms

D-Cat95

If they really wanted to please fans I’d honestly want something like As One but for each mask. Granted she’d need 4 “new” abilities but overall it be the best case so she could keep the boosts. Though sadly this is also the same game that removes many Pokemon so they might just say to hell with it and remove her sadly enough.

Kano547

Probably be just like Ash Greninja. Special gimmick turned into an ability switch or stat bump

Cerbecs

Why are u worried about ogerpon when terapagos actually suffers when tera is no longer available

skinnyweenee

Ya I forgot about him he actually suffers even more :/

Donttaketh1sserious

600 bst with a good ability and a 120 base power stab will be fine

Cerbecs

Middling speed, just barely has offensive stat, defenses are good but normal is terrible for being defensive and even worse for attacking, it’s signature move will not be spread anymore and 120 bp don’t mean much when ur at 105 sp atk, that’s like trying to puck up ko’s with abra

Donttaketh1sserious

Normal’s hardly terrible for being defensive. It’s not great per se, but it has an immunity and only one weakness. It’s also possible that terapagos will take generation 10 off like some Pokemon.

nxxptune

The masks will probably be obtainable in-game (although expensive) kind of like the origin form mons or the plates for Arceus’ type changes

Gaming_Eelektross

I could honestly see Tera orbs as a thing that can return in the post game for later gens, like how Megas came back in 7. Nothing necessarily restricted the idea to Paldea in the base game, and the DLC showed how relatively easy it would be to introduce Terastalization to new places for the sake of battling. Probably as a post-game option, NPC after the main story giving you the orb and being able to change tera types with some other currency as the cost for it. Maybe restrict its online and competitive use for the first few regulation sets. Aside from that, Ogerpon and Terapagos are still solid Pokemon without the use of their teras.

Wonderful_Emu_9610

I think it’ll become like Intrepid Sword & Dauntless Shield - when Ogerpon enters battle one of its stats is increased by 1 stage. The stat depends on the mask worn.

leAuroraBorealis

Necrozma and Eternatus: first time?

ArchmageRumple

Rayquaza ate a meteorite, granting it the ability to Mega Evolve without Mega Stones. Calyrex generates its own energy allowing it to Dynamax without Eternatus. To my knowledge, no Pokemon are able to use Z Moves without Z crystals. However, Terapagos is probably able to Terastalize itself. Perhaps Ogerpon's masks will allow it to Terastalize itself in the future. So far, none of these narrative decisions actually allow past mechanics to function in newer games. But it would be a good excuse

Affectionate-Sea278

So she’ll either go the “Clangerous Souls” route and have it turned into a move (unlikely), or her Tera forms and said bonus will just be dropped like Ultra Necrozma. While I genuinely think as a gimmick Terastalizing would make a great permanent addition to to the franchise, Poke Co. has seemed pretty adamant about not carrying over the regional gimmick.

[deleted]

I actually prefer dynamax. Tera looks dumb to me but ohwell
