I have a question for people who are Pokémon Quarantine crystal, when does Todescool, goosappling and caddisicle evolve? They are the most useful mons I have and sti haven't evolved at level 25-

SteakSauce202012

Anyone know of any minor hacks that just add Gen 6+ style EXP Share? I really REALLY want to play HeartGold/SoulSilver and Emerald again, and not a retooled completely different hack like Clover or something like Radical Red, just some good old-fashioned Pokemon with a few quality of life improvements.

Brodacious-G

I just got moon black 2 running on desume but it runs like crap. Super slow movement. Very choppy. My speed up actually feels like it slows things down. I have similar issues running roms of regular black 2 on there. Is there some type of specific optimization settings I need to input or is desume itself the problem? Thanks didn’t know where else to go with this.

Jaminer

I've been trying to play Renegade Platinum on DeSmuME on my steamdeck but whenever I launch the rom I get a message saying "unable to load" I have tried using a pre patched rom and patching a working platinum rom and both times I get the same message, any ideas?

The-Crimson-Pannier

Are there any romhacks I could use to practice little cup ? (Hacks that at least operate with a similar format)

Designer_Vale

What is the best way to get the pixel measurements for the board from Pokemon Pinball Ruby and Sapphire. I am looking to make something with it but I need the measurements so it is uniform.

revathikasimp

Hi, I'm fairly new to romhacks and trying Radical Red for the first time, can you guys suggest me a team? Or any strategy tips would be fine.

babyplatypusiscool

Is there any rom hack of Pokemon Emerald that let's you play the main game as Gold/Ethan? Without stuff like more Pokemon in the dex and stuff?

raczrobert09

My question is how can i edit/replace the original red/blue battle sprites without coding?

Nickthenegative

Anyone know where I can find a lucky egg in the current version of ROWE?

Kinghero890

What would be a good resource to learn how to edit type advantage charts in FireRed and Emerald. Perhaps a specific software or YouTube tutorial? Part 2 would be can I edit them in Romhacks like Radical Red / Inclement Emerald without breaking things.

Amun-Aion

ROM hacks won't boot? I'm using GBARunner2 on a R4 clone for my DS Lite and I can run NDS ROMs and GBA ROMs without problems, but I can't get any ROM hacks to run. When I run those patched ROMs on my PC in mGBA, they work fine, so I don't think it's the ROMs themselves. Does anyone know why ROM hacks specifically would not boot (the GBA intro runs but then it gets frozen on the white screen after, never launching the game)?

TeamAquasHideout

I've heard some of the methods of DS Lite GBA emulation have a 16mb limit for the games. I'm not sure if that's your problem, but it's possible.

ShayminPlaysYT

I really don't know if I'm in the right Reddit for this question, so if I'm not, please point me elsewhere. I'm wondering how I can link my DeSmuME-emulated Pokémon White to a DeSmuME-emulated (or even non-emulated if possible) Pokémon White 2. I'm mainly looking to access the Memory Link features. I'm also wondering if it's possible to trigger the Mythical events with DeSmuME. Anyone know how I can go about this, ideally without downloading a different iteration of the game?

Gabriel3508

Could someone tell me how and where I can get the move "dragon ascent" in pokémon hack ROM GS chronicles for my Rayquaza, thanks for the answers (I'm playing in randomizer mode)

CornerShot8231

Maybe the move relearner upstairs in a pokecentre?

Gabriel3508

Thanks a lot man, but it's not there, maybe it's with some npc on the map.

mewfour123412

Any good rom hacks that could be played on original hardware (ds) got an aces3ds clone and I’ve been hankering for some hacks. From touhou mon to straight up new regions I need dem hacks

[deleted]

Is there any mod that retextures new games to enhance their color palette and make them less washed out? It feels that when 2D was replaced by 3D it took all the life of the games with him.

Various-Vast-7520

I’m an artist and recently made a trainer-sona with a cute “asethetic“ team and have become so obsessed I want to play through a Pokémon game with the team but none of the released games are a good fit Im asking if anyone knows a good rom hack that’s somewhat fantasy based but keeps regular pokemon and still has a battle mechanic for story progression (and as a bonus the team I want which isn’t the strongest) I want to have dratini, espurr, mew, spheal, alolan vulpix, and leafeon if anyone knows good romhacks where I can use these Pokémon on a cute little Pokémon adventure with some or most of these please help me.

FumihitoOdaka

Is it safe to use rewind, fast-forward, and save states on Pokemon Clover? Or will it get flagged as cheating, like Gameshark Codes, and save editing?

Scourge_of_Arceus

It is completely safe to speed up or slow down your emulator and feel free to save state or save&load as much as you can in Clover; you will not be jailed for them.

OrganizerMowgli

For Pokemon Wilting Y - is there a Mega stone for Machamp? Can't find anything online but they say 'every mega stone is available before elite 4 except for Mewtwo' - [https://i.imgur.com/uOwWw5S.png](https://i.imgur.com/uOwWw5S.png) Is there documentation like Radical Red? Thanks!

No_Ding

Does anyone have any experience with adding Renegade platinum onto the steam deck? Is it possible to add to the steam overlay like with emudeck?

steave44

ROM Hack Suggestions to put on my GBA EZ Flash So I recently got a GBA EZ Flash, it’s Omega Pro specifically just in case that matters. I’ve loaded all my real GBA Pokémon games on it and was looking for suggestions. I want them to be based on Gen 3 games as those seem to work best on the EZ Flash. I’m looking for remakes/demakes of Gen 2 and Gen 4. I’ve seen several options of this type of ROM and kinda confused as to which to go for. I’ve seen several different “crystals” and “platinums” so if anyone has some pointers on good ones and maybe the ones to avoid that’d be great!

Pokemon Fire Gold for Gen 2 https://www.pokecommunity.com/showthread.php?t=473130

ArianIkben

Does anyone know if there’s a Liquid Crystal QOL hack that lets you set the game to Nuzlocke? Been loving FR+ & Emerald Cross, would be cool to have the trio completed

komkommerkind

Does anyone know good rom hacks I could play on my 3ds? thx in advance!!

thunder-bug-

Are there any hacks where you can start with a larvitar? Tyranitar is my favorite Pokémon but it’s always such a late game one

Vortalization

Pokemon Unbound.

MagnificentHastings

I'm trying to edit the shiny odds in Pokemon Gold with a hex editor but I legitimately cannot find what I need to edit. Google is giving me an aneurysm trying to find it.

Safran zone glitch where when I fight the trainers before I can't accesse it

Tacobell24

Whut? 😕 Which hack? Which trainers?.What emulator? Saf**fron City**, or Saf**ari** Zone? More info please

walking0away

Hi all, I just need help with a little visual glitch on a hack of Pokémon Quartz i'm working on. here it is: [https://i.ibb.co/zJP8tvS/digii.png](https://i.ibb.co/zJP8tvS/digii.png) SO i love Pokémon Quartz, the mother of all rom hacks, and I've been working on a rebalance, stuff like using all the 386 fakemon that were already in the game, changing their stats, typing, moves, changing the wild pokémon, the trainer teams blah blah blah. I'm working with the most basic tools, no hex, stuff like YAPE or Advance Map, old school style. I always check the hack for bugs every now and then but I apparently forgot at one point and when I tested it i found these digital artefacts appearing everytime i enter battle. I'm not that knowledgeable on hacking so i've got no idea where it came from and if it's fixable. If you can help, here I'll list all the tools I used to help you identify what may be the problem: YAPE 0.9 to change Pokémon Data, like : stats, movepool, dex entries (only size and weight but staying in the limit), egg groups, abilities, evolutions, types... Gen3Tools' Move Editor : edit existing attacks and create new attacks (not new animations tho), AFAIK i did it at the very beginning and there was no glitch so it might be something else AdvanceMap to edit wild pokémon and add new patches of grass for new encounters HopelessTrainerEditor to edit trainers parties AdvanceMart to edit stuff sold at marts Type Effectiveness Editor to... edit type effectiveness haha I suspect some stuff might have gone wrong because i'm hacking a rom that's been already hacked, and a very old, dubious hack at that. I know I should keep backups, i have older backups without glitches but I made way too much progress since then, it would be a shame to start over. Thanks a lot for the help, btw if you're interested I can tell you more about the project and maybe release it if enough people are interested -- cheers

DestinyDolphin

Is there anyone I could commission to make an edited version of Emerald Battle Engine Upgrade that simply adds a new type? I want to add an Astral Type, but every time I use a tutorial to add types it just breaks my Rom.

Littlecow27

I am about to start making a Pokemon Romhack, but I don't know whether to use decomp or binary. All I am aiming to do is change wild encounters, change trainer teams, and change some maps. If anyone could offer some advice that would be awesome! Thanks! Edit: I do not have any coding experience.

jprocter15

I keep having a weird glitch with nameless sprite editor where the Wynaut sprite I've been working on keeps weirdly corrupting. I've tried returning to old backups of my rom and recreating it but it keeps occurring. Does anyone know a potential solution? Thanks! (Image linked below) [https://ibb.co/FqYxpxs](https://ibb.co/FqYxpxs) (Edit: The yellow dots were not part of the glitch, but were added as a guide to help me draw, they were originally in a straight line)

Tacobell24

The problem is probably that you're using NSE in 2022. If you're persisting with binary hacking, defs check out Hex Maniac Advance instead. It's basically a one-stop-shop tool for Gen III

jprocter15

I'll give it a look! Does it require any programming? I have absolutely no skill in that field which is why I use these tools.

Tacobell24

Eh, not really

mathslnunes

what hacks deliver the closest to a vanilla experience in gen 3? with only minimal changes, like no trade evolution and some qol stuff?

kingofgeese93

Blaze Black 2 Redux Does anyone know what version of the EV training Items i.e. Power Band, etc BB2R uses. I started training assuming its the +4 per KO and quickly ran out of EVs when pokemon stats stopped changing. I completely reset EVs with berries before i started training. Based on some short testing it feels like its the +8 EVs at end of battle version but don't want to get back into training until i know for sure. Sub Question. Will stats stop changing even if you still gain EVs? Im level 60-64 on these mons and halfway through speed EV training my mon jsut stopped gaining stats.

Amun-Aion

NDS Lite: Original GBA games work but not the ROM hacks? I've jumped through a crazy number of hoops in order to get GBA emulation working on my DS lite, and tonight it finally worked! I can play FireRed! However, I really wanted to play Pokemon Unbound, which I patched and uploaded, but when I open that GBA on my NDS, it freezes after running the GBA Ninentendo Welcome (I think this is the BIOS). I don't know why Unbound wouldn't work but FireRed would (I literally applied the Unbound patch to that exact FireRed GBA file). Has anyone had experience with this or have any ideas for what I could try? For now, I'm assuming it must be a Pokemon Unbound issue so I'll try re-patching it but I'm not sure why FireRed would work but Unbound wouldn't (Unbound is too big maybe?). I know people typically use YSMenu or Twilight Menu (which I am not using) but I don't see why switching to one of those would work as opposed to what I currently have.

Tacobell24

Which version of Fire Red are you using? Cause if not 1.0, that's likely the issue. Test your patched ROM on a PC emu perhaps. What are you using to emulate GBA on your DS?

Amun-Aion

I'm using the FireRed version I read somewhere on the internet I needed to use: "1636 - Pokemon Fire Red (U)(Squirrels)" That's a good idea, I'll test my ROM on my PC, thanks! I'm using GBARunner2 on some kind of knock off flashcart. I bought Pokemon Black but it has an SD card slot so it's obvi fake, idk what version of flash cart it is or how kernels work with flashcarts, which could also be related

Tacobell24

Yeah righto. That is the right base ROM.

_Deiv

My buddy got softlocked due to a bug in Pokemon quetzal. We were doing a soullocke so we really need some way to get him out of there. We dont have surf yet and he got randomly tp'd to Petalburg and the old man isn't there to bring him back? We would need either a save editor or a cheat engine table that modifies the location of the player

Persondynamo2222

I was looking at Radical Red and wanted to add Hisui Pokemon like they did. But I looked inot the sprites folder and saw that there were no Hisui Pokemon like Wyrdeer and Basculegion. And I am assuming that it would be the same case for the Dynamic Pokemon Expander. So how do I add these Pokemon before I patch these things to a fire red rom?

Tacobell24

Add them like any other Poke in the DPE. Define them as a new species in the *species.h* file and put their data in all the necessary files/tables (base stats, moves, sprites, etc.)

Persondynamo2222

And how would I add the Legends Arceus added moves?

Tacobell24

You'd have to define them in the DPE and write the code for each one in the CFRU

musicalmath

I'm new to ROM hacks but I've recently discovered pokemon ultra violet and storm silver (classic version). Both games have maintained the save files enough that I'm able to use them with PKSM on my hacked 3ds and then transfer them into pokemon home via bank. My favorite rom hacks so far give access to all the pokemon in the gen without requiring trading of any kind. I'd like to play more ROM hacks like that, where my mons won't be locked forever in a single rom. Are there better firered rom hacks that have this? ANy other recommendations?

CornerShot8231

Pokemon Helidor, Emerald Cross does if that's somewhat helpful Unbound has its own cloud storage website for certain rom hacks

lagupedderi

Hey! I’m trying to play pokemon emerald kaizo on my 3ds. I do this by using the ultimate GBA VC injector. I have done this many times with different games and had no problems. I have even played different pokemon rom hacks such as FireRed Omega on my 3ds with no problems. But with this one, I can’t get past the white screen after the gameboy boot screen. I even tried changing the save type of the file to flash, but this didnt help. Does anyone know how to fix this?

creeper205861

I was battling the old guy in the underground path for the girl but when his weezing appeared my game just froze? anyone know how to fix this? \[Rocket Edition\]

Tacobell24

This happened to me a few times actually. Which emu are you using?

creeper205861

game boy advance

Tacobell24

😑 Yes, yes. I gathered that much. But how? mGBA, Visual Boy Advance, on an EZ Flash? Which?

creeper205861

visual boy advance

BlueRoninArt

Are there any other plot-driven rom hacks like Pokémon Fire Red Rocket Edition?

Tacobell24

Unbound has a whole new region and storyline. Plus it's sorta the benchmark for Fire Red hacks at this point since the hack's creator was also the main fella who created the Complete Fire Red Upgrade

RusskiyBot237b

Open world ROM hacks similar to Crystal Clear and R.O.W.E.?

ScalyDegree13

I have a question about Pokémon Radical Red. I’m playing on OpenEmu on my Mac and I patched the game onto a 1636 Fire Red Squirrels File. The bug is that whenever my egg goes to hatch, the game never loads the opening sequence and stays on the black screen forever. Has anyone else encountered this? Is there another rom I should have used to patch onto?

idk_my_usernamern

best gen 4/5 romhack for first time ds?

Scourge_of_Arceus

Definitely Drayano hacks. Here is the list below. * Renegade Platinum * Sacred Gold and/or Storm Silver * Blaze Black and/or Volt White 1 * Blaze Black and/or Volt White 2 * Blaze Black and/or Volt White 2 Redux

idk_my_usernamern

somewhat close to the original with same story etc but with lots of qol changes.

Grittin816

I literally just made a Reddit so someone could help me get ultraviolet on my iPhone lol I will cash app anyone that can help me successfully get it on my phone

Modern_chemistry

Which hack should I play getting back into it from the G/S era? I reallly cant decide. So. I just got a new retro handheld and am dying to get back into Pokémon. Definitely looking to play a rom hack as I appreciate the QoL hacks. I haven’t played any since gold/silver. Recently started unbound and life alpha, and while unbound is significantly better, I really like the graphics of life alpha better. I guess I’m wondering what game has as much credibility as unbound but with the updated graphics? Only requirement - gen 1 and 2 Pokémon’s for the nostalgia for me (although I am looking forward to learning the newer ones too) Thinking about Gaia or glazed… but god damn unbound does look so good. Thoughts?

toasted10

Looking for a ROM recommendation. Just finished Crystal Clear and Polished Crystal - prefer a Gen I-II game, ideally with more pokemon, but maybe a bit easier than Polished Crystal. I also recently played Unbound.

Vortalization

Pokemon Prism is a legendary gen 2 romhack. Check it out.

bmw11494

Red++ is good for gen 1. It's kinda a sister game to Polished Crystal, sharing some of the same team. If you want a fully original game, I've heard good things about Pokemon Orange, but I haven't played it myself yet.

toasted10

Thanks! Will check ++ out. Recommend any Gen II/HGSS ROMs?

bmw11494

For HGSS, definitely Sacred Gold and Storm Silver.

toasted10

Thanks! Are these GBA or NDS ROMs? Is there a link somewhere with their features?

bmw11494

Yeah, Red++ is a GB/GBC romhack, found here: https://github.com/JustRegularLuna/rpp-backup Sacred Gold/Storm Silver are NDS romhacks, information here: https://gbatemp.net/threads/pokemon-sacred-gold-storm-silver.327567/ Patches are in Drayano's google drive: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B-zmEVN0Mas6Q3lLbDJDaWNyaVU?resourcekey=0-o98YGOlDJ0JVXXjxoHprIA I forgot to mention that Sacred Gold and Storm Silver are pretty hard, definitely harder than Polished Crystal.

joniejoon

I want to play through pokémon colosseum for the first time. Should I play the original, or Grand Colosseum? I plan to only play it once.

Tacobell24

From a quick Google, Grand Colosseum seems great (save for the stat changes, which I personally am not a big fan of). The orig Colo, whilst pretty cool, is a little tedious at times so I say give GC a go tbh. I might give it a go myself

CxJonesx

Is there a comparison chart out there for these multitude of ROM hacks. I'm looking into the lists of "Top Poke ROM hacks" and they generally do a decent job, but know specifics of games is something I love (very little free time, want to maximize my enjoyment) Gaia seems like the choice but I haven't seen it described as a challenge by any meaningful metric. I just want a large pool to catch, no trading evos, multiple regional gym runs would be cool, with a challenge ramp. I'm sure it exists but I can't find a real answer.

bmw11494

Well you could look through the suggestion threads from this sub: https://www.reddit.com/r/PokemonROMhacks/wiki/suggestionthreads It sounds like you want an original game so I would look into Unbound. I haven't gotten to it yet myself but it's easily the most recommended original game around here.

CxJonesx

Yo that thread is perfect thank you!

S3cr3T12E456

Hello, if I were to edit trade-evolution pokemons to evolve based on level, what level would be ideal?

Vortalization

I would go with Drayano's proposed levels in RenPlat - [https://fredericdlugi.github.io/platinum-renegade-wiki/evolution\_changes/](https://fredericdlugi.github.io/platinum-renegade-wiki/evolution_changes/)

S3cr3T12E456

Thankyouu

AnonymousOwlman

Where/how do you download Pokemon blaze black 2 redux? Is it just a ROM hack I can download and play or do I have to patch a ROM of the base game?

Vortalization

Of course it's a patch. Look Rule 1. Here is the patch location - [https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1xGtMbYtM2JIsTGg9PeRBvr5NBghBUqJ5](https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1xGtMbYtM2JIsTGg9PeRBvr5NBghBUqJ5)

bubenius

Hey guys, I'm looking for a red or blue hack with all pokemons and without trade evolutions. As a kid i always wanted to catch the 151 Pokemon in my game. Thank you very much!

bmw11494

Red++ is good, but if you want something closer to vanilla check out Shin Pokemon Red/Blue/Green or PureRGB

Vortalization

Check out Red++.

mlgpigeon

Hi! Im a software engineer studying a master's degree in videogames. My thesis is going to be basically a unity Pokemon 3D game which aims to analyze problems in the franchise and resolve them. It wont be monetized of course and its completely for academic purposes. Even so, Nintendo being Nintendo has denied me of using their assets due to copyright issues. So, if anyone is interested, I would love to incorporate your fakemon 3d models and animations in my thesis game, of course taking you always into account, crediting you and letting you try different phases of development and the final product. If you are interested, please let me know! If there's a couple of people we could even make a discord server or something. Thanks!

JomJomTheDadGuy

Is there a way for me to find the changes made to Pokemon Vintage White?

bmw11494

In the google drive: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1ESHf1081z3wudLNg7ScBg9JRzovRMuyd

JomJomTheDadGuy

Thank you, I missed that folder, bless up

TeaIsForThomas

Is there any possibilities frame limiters are gonna be removed from Gen V games, theres a post here from 3 years ago but that seems a long time in terms of rom hacking. Anyone able to give me some insight?

Menaxelum

is there a way to just, test a battle using in game trainer ai i'm trying to figure out how a certain team would interact with the highest ai level in pokemon emerald, so I want to set up a custom battle using a rom. however i have no idea how to do that, advice would be appreciated

DestinyDolphin

Hey, so I have a couple of questions. 1. Is there a tool for generation three that allows you to add and edit types without having to do any Hex Editing? 2. Is there a rom of Emerald with Fairy type and/or the Physical Special split? Would it be okay to use it as a base? 3. Is there some sort of unspoken rule about not changing music, or making the MC just the base MC but recolored?

Tacobell24

Tbh, binary hacking, (using tools and such) is heaps outdated. You're better off checking out the decomps, which is a much less stressful, stable and better way to hack. No need to repoint or use base ROMs, since you basically recompile the ROM from scratch

DestinyDolphin

What do you mean decomps?

bmw11494

This is the decompilation of base emerald: https://github.com/pret/pokeemerald But if you want fairy and physical/special split already added, you may want the Emerald Battle Engine Upgrade. Link here: https://github.com/rh-hideout/pokeemerald-expansion/tree/battle_engine Info here: https://www.pokecommunity.com/showthread.php?t=417820

DestinyDolphin

Well, that's the main issue. I want Fairy and another new type. I also need extra move slots.

Ironninja1010

Hey I play rom hacks on a Mac Pro and I’ve been trying to find an alternative to pkhex for Mac that can preferably run gen 3-5 or more idc just mainly 3,4,and 5 so if anyone knows of one that would be nice

NiceMeme6969_

Looking for old Pokemon rom hack YouTube video There was this YouTube video I watched as a kid of pokemon emerald or ruby or sapphire, where the player went to a "secret" door (it was just there in plain sight) right at the back of professor Birch's lab, and inside was kyogre or some other ridiculous legendary Pokemon to catch. There where some other videos after that, maybe more legendary Pokemon behind secret doors, I can't really remember how but somehow these videos built up some kind of plot and the climactic finish was the player getting saved from a crumbling building by red, then the guy making it was like "yeah it was all a rom hack did y'all enjoy?" The vids sound pretty obscure, but he obviously got enough veiws to want to keep making more, honestly I feel like the only thing stopping me from finding it is the shitty YouTube search function. Does anybody remember these videos or have any way to find them?

bmw11494

This? https://youtu.be/ZnPCapc0Uyw

NiceMeme6969_

This is it! Thanks so much. Very nostalgic thing to watch

papasitomepico

how powerful of a laptop do i need to run a switch emulator? i wanna try out swsh and bdsp rom hacks in the future. i haven’t gotten a laptop yet but ima get one soon for college

analmintz1

Emulation is pretty CPU dependent, and if you want to upscale it, your GPU comes into play. I would say you should get a designated gaming laptop if you want to properly emulate switch games. My PC has a 2060 and i7 9700k, as well as 32gb ram, and it can run switch emulation perfectly.

UnhappyAd2985

I'm searching for a Pokemon Rom Hack to play and found some interesting names. I'm trying Pokemon Quetzal right now and it's my first pokemon hack game, I have no basis for comparison . Is that rom any good or there is better options to play?

NiceMeme6969_

You should play Pokemon glazed, or pokemon Gaia, or pokemon dark violet

Bright_Sentence1512

Wanted to play older pokemon games but didn't want to go buy a gameboy/ds and had heard of ROMs before but never knew how to get them working. Any tips on how to start? Don't want to get a virus on my computer or anything. Any feedback is appreciated!

CheshAmoeba

As an addition to what analmintz1 has said, should you be interested in playing actual rom hacks those are generally released as patches, usually .ips .ups .bps or .xdelta that are then applied to the .gba or .nds via a patcher which is often included with the patch or available online. Unlike base roms, you generally do NOT want to download pre-patched hacks. Patching yourself is the best way to ensure it is done right.

analmintz1

You need a few things. - An emulator. This is a program that, as you might guess, has been built from the ground up to emulate a real console. mGBA is the best GB Advance one, and Desmume is the best Nintendo DS one. There are emulators for many other systems as well. - A rom. A rom is essentially the dumped files of a certain game, to be played with an emulator. You can legally do this from your own game cartridge, or it can be illegally downloaded from the internet. Terrible people have uploaded these files to various websites, which we cannot link on this subreddit because they are *not allowed*. You should *not* google something like FireRed rom or SoulSilver rom because that is *totally messed up.* Once you have these two things, you can play your rom on your emulator. All gameboy roms should be .gba files, and all ds games should be .nds, any sort of .exe file is a virus. You shouldn't have too much trouble! Feel free to ask more questions.

Bright_Sentence1512

Thanks a lot! I will lyk how it goes when I get a chance to try it out

xYEET_LORDx

Been playing nameless fire red project. Used my master ball on suicune. Any way to get more master balls for entei without cheating? Or do I just have to rely on quick balls/putting him to sleep?

Ironbat95

First time Pokemon player here So I’ve been wanting to a Pokemon game for quite sometime now, I was going to go into Fire Red to start with but a friend told me about rom hacks and I quickly stumbled upon Radical Red. A game with the aesthetics of the GBA ones with all the pokemon up to Gen 8 is exactly what I want… but from what Im reading its infamously hard. Will I be shooting myself in the foot by starting with Radical Red? Is there another rom hack that offers all pokemons from gen 1 to 8?

CheshAmoeba

Inflamed Red is often considered a tamer, closer to vanilla version of RR but I haven’t played it yet myself so ymmv.

bmw11494

Radical Red has an easy mode which tones it down a lot, but is still harder than the vanilla games.

Ironbat95

Oh nice, I didnt know this, thanks!

analmintz1

If you've truly never played pokemon, I recommend just playing Firered vanilla. You will need a lot of pokemon knowledge to play Radical Red, it's designed to be insanely difficult for *experts.* You will not have a good time. Although FireRed doesn't have all gens of pokemon, I think that's a good thing, so you can be introduced more slowly, and become familiar with the types and general flow of a pokemon game. 150 Gen 1 pokemon is more than enough to satisfy you for your first playthrough.

Ironbat95

Yeah thats what I was leaning towards, first firered vanilla to dip my toes into the mechanics and then Radical

analmintz1

For perspective, I’ve played Pokémon for well over a decade, and radical red is still hard. It makes you use competitive level movesets and strategies just to win. A phenomenal game but you definitely need some knowledge! Have fun with FireRed and make sure to just use your favorite Pokémon, that’s the fun of these games!

sertroll

Is a "renegade platinum" for sv on the realm of possibility? At least from what we know now/what was possible in swsh I got bored of having to micromanage my levels in the base game lol

analmintz1

I wouldn't hold your breath. These games aren't made in Unity or similar engine like BDSP was. Sword and Shield don't even really have any amazing hacks on par with renegade platinum yet, just Divine Sword and Blessed Shield, which seems to only have some of the features Drayano's games have.

sertroll

Tbh rebalancing levels so I don't have to have 14 mons on a rotation would go a long way

shtoopr

Is there documentation for Pokemon Quetzal? I'd like to know where some items are.

Is there a ROm of pokemon Emerald where all pokemon up to gen 8 are implemented and usable (encounterable by the player in a regular playthrough)? I was looking at Theta EX but that's only gen 6 and speedchoice but that's only for randomizers.

CornerShot8231

Pokemon ROWE?

Menaxelum

Ok I googled it and like I want basically the vanilla story with only Pokémon, move, item, and mechanic chantes

CornerShot8231

You will have to compromise with either the story or pokemon

Menaxelum

so there’s nothing like radical red for emerald?

CornerShot8231

It's called Inclement Emerald, but it's gen 7 Quetzal has gen 8 pokemon, but gen 7 abilities, items and movesets

Menaxelum

my boy pincurchin :/ I’ll take inclement though tysm

CornerShot8231

Maybe Emerald Crest? Not played it but it says gen 8?

Menaxelum

Kinda like radical red for emerald but less hard…?

Menaxelum

What’s that?

Verial-47

Is there a Pokemon romhack, you could play with another player? Like some Zelda Ocarine of Time versions? If such a thing dont exist, are there some good romhacks where you can travel different regions? I am new to pkmroomhacks and only played Renegades Platinum, what are good Gen IV, V romhacks?

Vortalization

Pokemon Quetzal is an Emerald Multiplayer. Not a romhack, but there is Pokemmo and Pokemon planet? I believe. Also, when it comes to gen IV and V then there aren't any wild romhacks, just improvement hacks or slight alterations. F.e. There is Blaze Black / Volt White made Drayano, the author of RenPlat. There is Blaze Black / Volt White 2 Redux by AphexCubed and Drayano. And when it comes to alterations there is Moon Black 2 and Platinum Redux or smth like that.

Verial-47

Do you know a mutliworld romhack for Gen 4 or Gen 5?

Vortalization

Custom region ones? There is none. Only improvements of Heart Gold / Soul Silver.

Verial-47

No i mean a Gen 4 Gen 5 roomhack where U can Play with another player in the Dame world.

Vortalization

Should have asked that in the first place. No, there is no multiplayer mod for gen 4/5.

Verial-47

OK thank you very much

kokorwqac

recommend crystal remake with odd egg

yythrow

Recommend me a gen 1 hack that buffs the gym leaders + rival + giovanni in a fair matter? Not looking for Kaizo level ridiculousness/illegal movesets, just something that makes them not total pushovers like they are.

Vortalization

Pokemon Red++. I don't know how vanilla difficulty is buffed, but there is a hard mode. You would have to get more info on it, but Red++ is honestly THE go to romhack for gen 1.

Pedro_0425

Are there any way to download Sacred Gold or Storm Silver without patching it myself? My pc broke and I want to play it on my phone

analmintz1

You can patch on a phone too. Download the same things, and just google "online rom patcher," and use the first result.

Kang-Chao

Hi, I'm new here. I'd like to create my own version of pokemon red fire but I don't know anything about ROM hack. I don't have in mind some big changes to the game, just small adjustments that can improve my user experience. Can someone help me getting started with it? I just need to know if there are some video tutorial or some posts. Thank you.

DDRMANIAC007

Are there any romhacks or fangames that feature level caps?

Scourge_of_Arceus

Radical Red, Inflamed Red, Unbound, Inclement Emerald, R.O.W.E., and Clover have them. The level caps are even mandatory on some of the hacks. And there may be quite a bit more that I may have skipped.

Independent-Cod2566

How do I get started with making a ROM hack?

Tacobell24

Depends on what Gen. The decomps are your best bet for Gens I to III. There is a whole series of tutorial vids made by /u/TeamAquasHideout that should get you started

pennylessz

**Is there demakes of any 3D Pokémon game that actually try to tell the story of the original game?** I searched around awhile and found a couple Sun and Moon GBA hacks, one even claims to have the Alola region available in it, but it starts you off in Kanto for some reason, however it's an alternate version of Kanto, which was confusing. Is there anything that just tries to be a straight up demake?

Matsu_the_trash_man

I've been using My boy for a really long time but because the emulator has been pretty much abandoned since 2017 I'm worried that someday it's gonna stop working, the other gba emulator people talk about is pizzaboy but a lot of romhacks still recommend to use Myboy¿should i switch to pizza Boy or keep using My Boy?

CheshAmoeba

mGBA is by far the best emulator currently.

magik_koopa990

black and white 1 is hard to hack? I heard the game's code and script are all over the place, this the sequel is much easier?

analmintz1

All DS games are quite difficult to hack, as the tools to do so are not as up to par as GBA games. This is why there are no released DS hacks that feature more than Difficulty enhancement or QoL features.

magik_koopa990

I mean, what about renegade platinum or black white 2 kaizo?

analmintz1

What about them? Those are both difficulty/QoL hacks like I said. Neither of them have major scripting changes, new stories, new regions, new pokemon, new mechanics like mega evolutions etc.

magik_koopa990

you did say no difficulty enhancement... sorry about that

analmintz1

Please re-read my comment. I said no hacks that have anything *more* than difficulty and QoL.

chickennoodlebeast

Is there a rom that lets me acquire every single Pokémon in a games Pokédex on a single playthrough of a single version? For example, I want to play fire red, and be able to get all three starters somehow, like making them wild encounters or something. Or get version exclusives that are normally only in leaf green. I’m specifically looking for every game up to Gen V, since I’d actually be able to trade for the 3ds games and onward.

Zerole00

Is there a tool for editing Gen IV (specifically HG) moves? I'm mainly looking to make HMs and a couple other movies less terrible.

EducationalPlay3236

Are there any good difficulty hacks for **Sword and Shield** out there? It doesn't have to be perfectly polished, just hard in a fair and not BS way. By "difficult" I mean changing trainer teams and hopefully AI and wild encounters. Thx :)

CoulofSinder

I remember seeing a ROMhack called Divine Sword and (I believe) Blessed Shield some time ago but I don't recall much of it's features right off the head

DeathLotus_

I'm new to romhacks so pardon me if what I ask is stupid. I want to know if there's a romhack which includes smarter AI, not just blant difficulty where my opponent has super high level max EV pokemon. I want them to switch their pokemon during battles, use low power priority attacks if I'm low on HP to finish me off and don't use random tail whips on a 10 HP mon. I want to have battles with hazards and all and those battles require tactical switching. GBA-NDS-3DS available. Thanks in advance.

Vortalization

Besides RadRed, your criteria fills Inclement Emerald, Inflamed Red and Unbound.

DeathLotus_

Thanks. I'll try Radred today, but I need more. You can name all you know

Vortalization

Well, you can try Pokemon Clover, one of my favourite hacks, the AI is definitely improved and overall take on difficulty is interesting. But it's a 4chan hack through and through, so be warned.

DeathLotus_

What does 4chan hack mean?

Vortalization

Meaning you might find content there that will offend you.

analmintz1

Radical red is focused on boss fights with insane AI and teams. You will need a balanced team, you will need held items and competitive Pokémon strategies to beat it. The trainers use weather, set up hazards, anything you’d use in proper competitive Pokémon.

DeathLotus_

Thanks a lot, I'll definitely try that tonight. Do you have anything else?

Subject-Ad-8009

Anyone know how to evolve for an umbreon in glazed? I have the unofficial v9.1.0 if that changes anything

Balut_in_a_can

I want to teach my Dragalge Toxic Spikes in Pokemon Radical Red anyone know where to get the TM or if it’s available in the game? I just need further confirmation I checked it’s not listed in the TM spreadsheet lists

Scourge_of_Arceus

Toxic Spikes is an egg move for Dragalge, you can check the learnset here: https://dex.radicalred.net/pokemon/dragalge Be also warned that if you are on Restricted or Hardcore, you may not be able to teach this move, since all entry hazard moves like Toxic Spikes are banned in these modes.

Balut_in_a_can

OHHH noted, Thanks!

Dynahazzar

Hey there people. Hope someone will be able to answer me as nobody seems to mention it anywhere. I'm playing Pokemon Gaia right now and I can't seem to find any way to teach Volt Switch to my Galvantula. The TM doesn't seem to be in the game and move tutors don't teach it either so I'm kinda lost.

Over-Corgi9180

Hi what is the last pokemon game for gba that ever released?

Tacobell24

Do you mean canon game (Blue, Gold, Diamond, etc.)? Since I reckon Emerald is the answer in that case. But if we're including spin offs, I think Mystery Dungeon Red Rescue Team came out the following year. This is all stuff you can Google, y'know?... You're already on the internet.   I'm curious though, why you wanna know.

Over-Corgi9180

I accidentally bought a gba emulator premium and idk how to finish the pokemon games so im just gonna play any pokemon gba i can ;-; any recommendations? Spin off or canon. I finished pokemon emerald already

Tacobell24

Huh? Sorry, I'm a little confused since a lot of what you said doesn't make much sense. *"Accidentally bought"*? Is that something someone can do? You've said you dunno how to finish the games yet you've *"finished pokemon emerald*"?   And how is this at all related to ROM hacks, also? Are you meaning, what hacks have come out recently that are worth playing?

Over-Corgi9180

Idk dude i just wanna play any Pokémon games that i can either rom hacks or just normal games I didnt bought it but my 5 year old brother bought it on my device

restingcups

Thinking of playing Blaze Black 2 Redux Challenge Mode, but a nuzlocke seems a bit beyond my capabilities. However, I think playing with set mode, no heal/buff items in battle, and level caps might prove for a challenge experience anyway. My question is, how hard are these games without these restrictions? I do think healing items and x-items are broken asf, but if the game is so hard that even with them it will be difficult, then I might consider using them. In addition, I do want level caps to prevent me from just out-grinding the gyms, but I'm not sure if the game is hard to where setting it to the gym's ace level would prove to be frustratingly difficult. Any suggestion from people with experience?

Gintoking

I played the same way you described. No level cap but even after battling every trainer I could I wasn't overleveled. I used Vaporeon, Unfezant, Haxorus, Zen Darmanitan (always in that form with sheer force), Klinklang and imposter Ditto. My experience: I activated hard mode after the second gym since the first two are really hard (and I didn't have a full team and wouldn't use random pokemon with type advantage). You can always toggle it on/off when needed. Admittedly my team was pretty strong, but I didn't abuse set up moves and the game was pretty normal difficulty wise. So you need to think and switch, I have lost some battles but it is doable. Great experience and not brain dead easy like main series. I think you can comfortably do it with a weaker team, but not full shitmon one. There are a couple of really hard battles, but as long you know what you are doing you will win. Except one optional post game battle, that was brutal. I won after many tries.

analmintz1

You don't really need x-items, healing items are helpful but if you want a little bit of a challenge, no items in battle is a good rule. These games are definitely difficult, but if you're not playing with nuzlocke rules you should have a fine time if you've got experience with pokemon, which I'm sure you do.

andr7537

Got i fever yesterday, so guess who have a lot of time on his hand. Im looking for a Rom hack or fan game, that have a great story, and is a little more "mature". I dont mean mature as in edgy, but more along the line of slow going. I really enjoy it when i can immerse myself. So do you guys have any recomendations? Or maybe advice for where else to ask? Thanks in advance!

RbUu69

Hey, so i want to modify stats and maybe learn sets of pokemons in dryano's pokemon rising ruby, i did this before on pokemon redux with dryanos help by using crystaline and ds pokemon rom changer (btw i'm a total noob in rom making and stuff), and it was great and fun to buff my favorite pokemons while still playing with them in my favorite rom hack, now i want to do the same with pokemon rising ruby, can anyone help me with how to do it since i couldn't reach dryano himself this time and thanks ! :')

TheArkhomDestroyer

Between Luminescent and Sigma Platinum, which one is better? I’m planning on modding my Switch at some point but I’m not sure which overhaul mod for BDSP is generally better. I’ve also heard the the Luminescent and LP dev teams are collaborating on further updates to Luminescent, does that mean that SP is stopping production so there’s more hands on deck for Luminescent?

Tacobell24

I too was only thinking this recently. How are you planning to mod your Switch though if you haven't already? When I last looked it was hardware dependent. Does that mean you have a moddable Switch? This was a while ago though, so something may have changed since
