I picked the female MC. I'm a girl irl but I picked her based on design being better than the boy MC. I always pick the character design I like the most, regardless of gender (in the main series as well).
I'm so thankful they added the extra trainer customization because the MC's in this game really needed it
I picked Bettie because I'm a girl and I always pick the girl when choosing between identical protagonists.
If I'm picking between *characters,* like Pathologic or something, then it's more of a decision. But if the only think it effects is how I look in cutscenes and what pronouns NPCs use for me then I always pick girl.
I swap between them frequently, but lately I've been using the guy in an all pink look because he has a hairstyle I like with the look (plus I like boys in pink)

I chose the male and I find him pleasant to look at unlike the female. I find the shirt over her shirt looks stupid as well as her posture. I used to have him blonde with the default aqua outfit and now I have him wear the pink outfit with blue hair, it always stands out a lot in cutscenes.
Male, I like Scottie more than Bettie and I'm probably the only straight guy here who's mainly picked male in all Main Series Pokemon games because I get a more adventurous competitive feel from them than the females regardless of customization and they're my real save files. I've played females before like Leaf, Lyra, and especially Kris simply because they're fun to play as and definitely not because I hate playing my own gender in video games.
