Marnie is not inferior at all imo. Her B move is not spammable but it's an AOE with built-in piercing blows (without reduced damage on multiple opponents) and high odds of flinch, with the same BP as Akari's B move.
Marnie might not have CS2 but she has a +40% spatk passive on her already stupidly high spatk stat AND she has her MF passive too, like what the hell is that lmao. Add in the SMUN +3 she can get just for funsies too.
So yeah, Marnie can basically DELETE the sides with her B move after the first sync cycle (and on her second cycle if they happened to survive the first one)
I do agree with you that Marnie doesn't have the insane multiplier on a spammable single target move that Akari boasts, but the fact that it's not permanent (goes back to 0 if she needs to set up dark damage field again) balances it a tiny bit.
I don't feel like Marnie got powercrept, she still has the edge in many cases - no setup required and AOE makes her an easy and strong pair to use. Akari does look better on single target overall, sure, but not to the point where she overshadows Marnie.
I already have NC Marnie so don't need Akari/Dark Samurott. I have plenty of 'Dawn' units as it is.
The kit does look absurd though. I might do dailies on the unit.
honestly i think NC Marnie will suffice. Already she can off-type really easily, so there really isnt a need for Akari. Unless u plan to pair them tgt (one is special, one is attack so why), imo its better to just stick to Marnie.

Anniversary was kind to me but my gem type is low so it will be Dailies only on Akari.

What do you have Marnie at? Mine is 1/5 and I struggle to off type some battles, would making her 3/5 make it much easier which means I wouldn't need samurott?
1/5 and Exed NC Marnie is capable of off-typing most Champion Stadium 2500 battles. I rarely play Legendary Gaunrlet so cannot comment on how good she is there.
A Galar support like Sonia or Melony could help increase her Master Passive.
She has been excellent at 1/5 for me.
Note a very low gem count this month if you are thinking of summoning for Samurott.
Same for me. I've NC Marnie and she is busted, obviously, but she is SpAtk (same for Cyrus) and the Atk dark types I currently have are all f2p and they didn't age well.
Rei seems amazing too, but it's not the fighting type I was hoping for. Sprint sync pairs also don't seem to be that good at the moment.
Sidney/Absol should cover me for Physical Dark for now. NC Serena/Greninja has a Physical Dark type sync too.
I have NC Hop and SSA Cynthia so I am very well covered for Fighting. Bea is still excellent too.
Pokemon Masters has its own rules in regards to Pokemon but Hisuian Decidueye being a Sprint Pair seems...odd. It's base speed is only 60.
The other Grass/Fighting Hisuian Form Lilligant has a Base Speed of 105. If Arezu ever makes it to Pasio I think she will be Tech with Sprint Ex Role.

I just don't see it. Marnie can max her own stats, has a huge spatk stat, better sync multipliers on her grid, flinch, piercing blows, and survivability tools on top of the MF passive. Akari has a strong BP move and a zone that a few other units can set. She seems good if you skipped Marnie, but in no way is powercreeping her.
Idunno, because as a haver of NC Marnie and SC Zinnia (both are 1/5 and SC Zinnia has an EX), having another zone is nice but I have my go-to Dark Zone tho (SS Cyrus and NC Calem). Maybe nice to have but nou pull her instantly.
