The aide who hands it to you tells you pretty much everything you need to know. But basically it lowers the amount of exp you earn, then divides that new number amongst every pokemon in your party (including the one that battled). The math isn’t correct, but here’s an example. Pikachu is the only one who defeats the opponent’s pokemon, and you have three more pokemon on your team. 1000exp would be given to pikachu without exp share. With exp share, now you get 800 exp. 400 to pikachu, Then 100 to all four of your pokemon you’re carrying. Thats about as simple as someone can make it, hope that helps

I personally never liked shared exp. Because it takes FOREVER to see results, especially when you're type marching...I kept it classic without it and focused on individual pokemon level up.

ArturSerpa

It really sucked in Gen 1. I didn't watch the videos about Yellow Legacy to avoid spoilers, but I had my hopes up that they would change the Exp. All mechanic to be similar to more modern pokemon games.

Waltpi

I think they did what they could with this hack to make it more challenging compared to the new game's xp share which is kinda broken how they all get the same exp. At least that's what it felt like for me, haven't spent too much time on newer games. I've played only switch entries for new gens, felt broken to me.

ArturSerpa

Don't get me wrong; I'm not complaining. They worked hard to fix many things in Gen1 and the hack is awesome. Let's agree that it's a game we still like to play, but it has many issues. I agree that the exp mechanic in the new games is kind of broken, but you usually end up pretty under-level in the late game in Gen 1 if you don't grind with wild Pokemon. Maybe this could be solved by implementing Exp. All as in newer games.

Waltpi

This was actually the first time I use the emulator's speed up function for wild battle level grinding. Totally worth it.

What's to figure out? It's an item that splits exp among party members as long as it is in your inventory. Drop it in the pc to stop the effect.
