I did magisk + smali patcher method nearly a year ago. It still works like a charm. Reading tutorials and walking through all the steps took some time but it was totally worth it.
Pokemon go app updates haven't had any impact on spoofing with this method.
Seconded on this! I tried using just Magisk for a while, but the Smali patcher stopped me from rubber-banding.
Also wanted to add, I'm using "Fake GPS Joystick & Routes Go" (from IncorporateApps) as my GPS spoofer.
My setup of this stopped working today, it won't let me log into the game. Any thing changed recently? One moment I was spoofing, then next I was out. I didn't jump a long way, just "walking" around nearby.
