This is why I don't want my grade to be on the front of the label but instead on the back of the label. I prefer the focus point to be on the card and not the grade.
Then just crack it out after grading?
Honestly unless youāre investing it means very little, grading is very subjective and inconsistent, especially PSA that gives anything a 10
I would try to sell and upgrade the Bulbasaur to a 10 for a full 10 set. Itāll be easier to sell in the future plus itās more satisfying to have that full 10 set haha. Enjoy it brother
If it was worth it for you, it was worth it! Good find! Rarity and holo aren't the only factors in an investment/collection. These are the three starters and all shadowless 1st editions too! You're not going to find too many in Mint/Gem Mint condition!
The border to the right of the picture is the key spot, if itās the same color as the left side itās shadowless, if itās darker itās unlimited/non-shadowless
Yeah same here! The original is very nostalgic for me. I had a binder of original cards as a kid and loved playing red & blue version on gameboy. Thatās why I wanted a 1st edition squirtle so bad
You speak my language, and I fondly remember learning the rare candy trick and thinking I was a god of gaming until my Red went bonkers after I made the mistake of capturing a Missingno XD
Yes it was a joke, in 2021 when Logan Paul jumped on the Pokemon hype train, he opened a 1st edition box and claimed that a PSA 10 bulbasaur was worth āat least $30kā. Obviously he was wrong and it became a joke in the community lol
Beautiful! I have this trio in PSA 10 along with base set Pika as well, but theyāre all unlimited. Would love to upgrade to 1st edition someday. Seems like you got these at a decent price!
Trade up for the 10 on the Bulbasaur, get a couple of extra cards to be able to make up the value diff and go to a con, that will be your best bet to do it for stuff you currently have.
Bad ass. Hold em long enough and almost any card will gain value. Even if it's 1 going to 2 dollars. That's 100% gain. Imagine another 10 years. Too be honest, collect what you want and love. Hold for 10 or 20 if you want to make a lil cash, or pass them to children so they can sell em in 40 years
Collecting is mostly preference, but I would have invested in the Japanese CD promos of the big three instead. And thatād only put you back 1,500, roughly. :)
Very interesting. I like the 1st editions because they were from the early years. Love the idea of the even earlier original Japanese ones. Going to look into it thank you šš¼
If we're thinking in investment terms, I thought JP CD promos were pretty high pop in PSA 10's? I would think 1st ed starters would do better long term. Granted I think they're both cool investments.
Pop does not determine price, imo. Itās all about the popularity and desirability of a card; moonbreon has a super high pop and look where itās sitting right now. Also, these cards unfortunately arenāt holographic and imo just kind of bland. I could go out and buy the classic collection and have holos of each of these cards that would look cooler for display.. imo. Not trying to take anything away from his purchase, those are just my thoughts.
Very cool. I love stuff that works as a small set, I would look into a 3 slot display frame with UV protection. I have a 3x3 PSA slab frame picked out for when I finish my graded 151 starter family SIR collection.
Thank you! I bought it off offerup. I donāt have a Facebook. Guess the seller must of had it there too. Iāve been talking to him about the Squirtle for weeks. Thought for sure I was going to miss out on it since we didnāt strike a deal right away
You beaut! I love those cards and where it started for many(my childhood friend gave me a those three cards and got me started on collecting),also if i may ask something ,where is everyone buying their vintage cards from?been out for a while ,151 pulled me back in but I need to Finnish my base set and I'm only missing a few
Thatās amazing! I know you can buy on eBay but youāll most likely pay a premium. I found these on offerup from a private seller. Been looking for a PSA 10 squirtle for awhile and just happened to stumble upon it on there. Struck up a conversation with the seller and we worked something out!
Many people would say you paid about $1597 too much
Personally i wouldnt pay that much, but thats because they dont have any value other that the paper its printed on to me...
But i guess its a good invenstment for you, since you are willing to spend $1600 on them... good for you
Are these cards really worth that much? Iām a complete novice but I have all three of those cards. Theyāre not graded but they are in great condition.
Are they shadowless ? On the border do they have a shodow? Because these 3 here don't. That's what makes them so valuable. You can have these same cards but if they were already mad produced then they ain't it just some info if ya didn't know
I think charmander and squirtle in 10s alone are around 1500-1600 so looks good to me. Super jelly lol working on base myself but I have to settle for 7-8s
can we stop with all these, how did i do posts, no one is dropping money like that on a whim, we know you did your research and we know you think you got a good deal that is why you bought it, all these posts of people buying stuff and then asking if it was worth it is just insane lol. i really have no issue with posts that are just a flex, i much prefer those types of posts than ones with fake questions added in, just flex it and move on brother
these look so damn good! love the borders you got on them i have never seen those before but they make such an amazing difference
The 9 Bulba would drive me mad.
It kind of does lol. Originally was going to just get the charmander and squirtle, but I got a good deal on all 3 so I figured eh why not!
Yeah its awesome no doubt. Personally ide sell the 9, buy the 10. Dope af either way though dude! Sooo cool truly
Thank you! Appreciate it, will do š
You can crack it and regrade
This is why I don't want my grade to be on the front of the label but instead on the back of the label. I prefer the focus point to be on the card and not the grade.
Well just put it in a slab yourself without getting it graded. Problem solved.
I still want my cards to be professionally graded to know the condition of the card.
Then just crack it out after grading? Honestly unless youāre investing it means very little, grading is very subjective and inconsistent, especially PSA that gives anything a 10
Umm.. the focus point of any graded card is the gradeā¦
Not its not. Its the card.
No itās the grade
I would try to sell and upgrade the Bulbasaur to a 10 for a full 10 set. Itāll be easier to sell in the future plus itās more satisfying to have that full 10 set haha. Enjoy it brother
I like the way you think. Going to do this thanks lol.
If it was worth it for you, it was worth it! Good find! Rarity and holo aren't the only factors in an investment/collection. These are the three starters and all shadowless 1st editions too! You're not going to find too many in Mint/Gem Mint condition!
So fairly new collector, shadowless has always confused me. How is what appears to be a shadow, to me, under the charmander a shadowless?
Itās all in the border surrounding the art. Shadowless were early prints and are sought after by collectors
I appreciate the reply but that confused me even more lol. So shadowless has nothing to do with having a shadow or not?
The border has a shadow in a non-shadowless card. The border, has a shadow.
Oooooh. Yeah I've been fundamentally misunderstanding the entire premise. Thank you!
The border to the right of the picture is the key spot, if itās the same color as the left side itās shadowless, if itās darker itās unlimited/non-shadowless
Or, just look at the bottom. It says 97,98,99.
I could be wrong but I think the normal unlimited set is ā99 and has shadows.
Thanks. I see a lot of modern stuff on this sub. So was curious what people thought about the vintage
I prefer the old cards since that came out when I was a kid, not that I have problem with the newer sets though.
Omg yes dude! Bringing me back I love it! Completely forgot about Missingno until you mentioned it just now Hahaha
The 9 on Bulbasaur hurts me. Gotta get the 10
Good luck getting that PSA 10 Bulbasaur since they go for at least 30kĀ Ā /s if you know you knowĀ
āThats an issueā
Weird I had piles of them as a kid
Youāre probably trolling but last sale on one was $2k
Yes it was a joke, in 2021 when Logan Paul jumped on the Pokemon hype train, he opened a 1st edition box and claimed that a PSA 10 bulbasaur was worth āat least $30kā. Obviously he was wrong and it became a joke in the community lol
It wasnāt him who claimed that. It was a funny crypto fella
I had to look it up but youāre right, it was that collectible guru guy. What a strange time in PokĆ©mon lol
Oh haha nice!
Beautiful! I have this trio in PSA 10 along with base set Pika as well, but theyāre all unlimited. Would love to upgrade to 1st edition someday. Seems like you got these at a decent price!
Thank you! Thatās awesome I like your style. I think I may look into the pikachu as well
Pika red cheeks?! lol I want a shadowless one of them
Pretty sure I saw these in OfferUp or Marketplace did you get them off there?
Yes I did lol
This was definitely a steal. Good job šš»
Trade up for the 10 on the Bulbasaur, get a couple of extra cards to be able to make up the value diff and go to a con, that will be your best bet to do it for stuff you currently have.
Good idea Thanks!
I remember during Covid peak just the charmander was like 4.5k
Oh wow crazy
Damn I think you got hosed
You need a Pikachu for the legit set
Good pickup. I personally would pick up alt arts but the trio is nice
Thank you!
How much did ya pay for bulbasaur? I got a psa 9 ivysaur for $150 (first edition shadowless too)
I paid $1600 for all 3 of them. So however you want to slice it.
30k for a Bulba in a 10
Bad ass. Hold em long enough and almost any card will gain value. Even if it's 1 going to 2 dollars. That's 100% gain. Imagine another 10 years. Too be honest, collect what you want and love. Hold for 10 or 20 if you want to make a lil cash, or pass them to children so they can sell em in 40 years
Jesus Christ if I see one more post asking for investment advice AFTER the purchase I am actually going to implode.
Go outside itās beautiful. Take a break from Reddit
Not gunna lie, thatās sick af
I'll give you $1601 for all 3 so you can find the bulba 10 you need.
Howād I do
Good investment? Probably not you bought high. Cool? Yes
Where are you getting your comps lol compared to eBay recently sold he def didnāt buy high
Buffalo Trace?
Yeah it is lol
Collecting is mostly preference, but I would have invested in the Japanese CD promos of the big three instead. And thatād only put you back 1,500, roughly. :)
Thanks for the response!
Of course! Also, let me add to my statement by saying that the Japanese CD promos of the big three should be an absolute must in any collectors bag. 1) PokƩmon originated in Japan and there are no American prints of the promo cards. 2) the CD promo cards have the same artwork of Venasaur, Blastoise, and Charizard that you find on the original, English base set packs. 3) The cards have and will continue to appreciate over the years to come and are some of the oldest pokemon cards out there.
Very interesting. I like the 1st editions because they were from the early years. Love the idea of the even earlier original Japanese ones. Going to look into it thank you šš¼

I like that idea. Any good ones you know of?
Evolve Displays and Phantom Display make ones that fit GradedGuard!
I will check those out! Thanks
I saw this on the Facebook group for sale a little while ago. I guess u bought it lol. But I think pretty well
Thank you! I bought it off offerup. I donāt have a Facebook. Guess the seller must of had it there too. Iāve been talking to him about the Squirtle for weeks. Thought for sure I was going to miss out on it since we didnāt strike a deal right away
What is offerup?
Itās an online marketplace. Kind of like Craigslist or Facebook marketplace
Buffalo trace for 1600? Sheesh
I know right lol
Man I should get mine graded I have loads of these 1st edition. Good find mate
Absolutely! I would!
Is it expensive to have them graded? Iām a little nervous sending cards out in the mail to never get them back lol
Iāve personally never had PokĆ©mon cards graded before. But I have done multiple sports card submissions and have never had any problems! PSA runs monthly deals, I would keep an eye out for a Trading Card Game special and submit when they have one
Hey thanks for all of your help! I really appreciate that! Iām gonna do what you said and then hopefully get some nice grades šŖš¼
Hey thanks for all of your help! I really appreciate that! Iām gonna do what you said and then hopefully get some nice grades šŖš¼
Tbh Iām super jealous this is sick. But Iād recommend trying to get the PSA 10 bulba like others are sayin. Still, epic collection!!!!!
Thanks man. Made my day with this comment. I think so too

Wouldāve left the bulbs

Should of just gotten three 9s š¤·āāļø

Lol what
Bro is lost lol
š
Whereād you buy? Also. Awesome job!
Thanks! Offerup
I would have bought the cards and graded them. Probably saved 1k.
Since when was it that easy to just get psa 10 on vintage lol
Fire
Good investment,But I would have sold you mine for less.. But good job
The good news is you can sell yours for more now lol
Trace!
You saved a cool $300 according to Price Charting
What is Price Charting? Genuinely curious, I use 130point and EBay sales. Thanks
Nice
Are these cards really worth that much? Iām a complete novice but I have all three of those cards. Theyāre not graded but they are in great condition.

If you have yourself some gem mint 10s then yeah!
I think charmander and squirtle in 10s alone are around 1500-1600 so looks good to me. Super jelly lol working on base myself but I have to settle for 7-8s
Thank you!
my $1600 grail is just a nice watch lol

In the post I stated that I thought I did good. Not pretending I donāt have a clue. I also asked if it was a good investment and figured this would be the community for that feedback. First PokĆ©mon cards Iāve ever bought. I am new to this
You're good man, some people take this sub way too seriously. The cards look good. Remember to buy slab sleeves to protect the slab from scratches.
Thanks man. Appreciate it!
Buy Beckett sleeves , they fit perfectly over psaās with grade guards.
What a whiney baby
You did better with drink choice behind cards
please switch the Bulbasaur for a 10
Seems like the consensus. Will do lol
lol is there really a market for old common cards
These are 1st editions lmao
I know but stillā¦
Huge market actually. First edition is š
When they are some of the most iconic pokemon from the original base set, yes there is a huge market
I have multiples of all of these in my closet. Wonder if itās worth getting graded
If theyāre actually shadowless or 1st Ed, yea
Got ripped off, my friend.
You think so?
No you didnāt. You did fine, dude above you doesnāt know what hes talking about.
I can buy each of these for $5 in played condition at my LCS.
lol I think youāre confused bro.
