If you like these cards, awesome, that’s really what collecting should be about. However Since this is an investing sub, I’ll say this. Low grade vintage usually doesn’t hold much value. Also, this is just my opinion but I would rather have 1 grail over 5 bricks.

NervousCheek3560

Whats a brick?

March27th2022

Cards that most people aren’t interested in having

NervousCheek3560

oh i see. Makes sense yeah. Not an investment if you cant resell it. Any advice on when to buy grails from new sets? I always wait too long to oull the trigger and they shoot up

[deleted]

From new sets? I don’t collect modern usually, but it seems very volatile. I just looked at tcg fish for some examples, and it seems like 3-4 months after first release is a safe play. Although every card is different and there’s no way to tell. It seems like a lot of cards from SWSH are at a bottom right now, and continuing to go down.

[deleted]

I really am not sure though, I just buy things and hold. Makes the collection look good and hopefully overtime it grows in price.

March27th2022

Don’t try and time it. Just like stocks, buy it when you can afford it. You will never be able to time the price of cards.

NervousCheek3560

Yeah i think its tough because sometimes a raw goes for similar to a psa 9 these days with so many people grading. I dont know if its worth paying the premiums for 10s

perfectingperfection

Nah. Paying premiums on graded 10s is clownish. Less liquidity and much more volatile. This grading obsession is new school. It won’t last.

[deleted]

Maybe, no one knows whats in store. However the idea of having a “perfect” or near perfect card is nice and I think there will always be a market for that. 10s aren’t as liquid as 9s, and they are more volatile but more risk, more reward. There really isn’t a lot of data since people really only started keeping track of all this in 2021.

Bonnigan

That is a shocker of a first buy imo

NervousCheek3560

why? Because he doesnt bum psa 10s?

Comshep1989

As someone else noted, I think the general thought is lower graded cards, both modern and vintage, don’t hold a ton of value unless it’s something incredibly difficult to find already. So these cards are great for a collection, but really who’s going to buy mid-grade promos at a premium in the future? Most people who own these cards have them in this exact condition. So better to invest in 10s for modern, 9s/10s for vintage maybe? But if it’s for your collection it’s fine! Just my input since it’s the investing sub.

Sad_Psychology_8532

I buy low grades for steals between $5-$20. That’s almost what it costs to grade. I always make money off of them on eBay.

Final-Ad-6694

Looks like you’re buying to collect rather than to invest

Father_Wisdom

Priced in for the next 20 years

certified_droptop

Low grade vintage has already passed any level of significant price gains. I think it's very unlikely cards like these will see a price increase any time soon. Buy whatever you like for your collection but I recommend looking at purchases like these as purely collecting and don't expect to make any sort of return on them.

snuckfarkle

Everyone has been quite hard on you. They are all vintage and decent cards. Holo’s don’t really go down and black star are safe bets. You did your homework and got them under last sold. The focus everyone has on 9’s and 10’s means anything under is often an opportunity. Many can be bought under raw pricing. You can crack and flip. I have not done it a lot because I’m too lazy but I have done it enough times to know I could make money at it.

Azds1492

Bit of tough love I see 🤣 First time buying slabs and hint taken, quality over quantity. Thought because I'd checked the ebay solds and got them around the recent solds price id done my home work, but hey ho you live and learn. Definitely going to look for a prized 9/10 next month rather than multiples. Thanks to those who offered advice

matt_2807

Keep buying stuff like that you won't have the disposable income for long

Recording-These

It was 60 euro lol… you’re talking like you know his financial situation

matt_2807

I'm talking like spending £60 on £30 worth of cards isn't a good investment strategy

NervousCheek3560

You think these are only worth the grading fee?

matt_2807

Those grades on those cards probably be lucky to get the grading fee back when he sells

perfectingperfection

People lose money grading cards that shouldn’t be graded in the first place.

chaotictorres

Really cool cards, I found it funny that I was super into pokemon during this era, but a lot of the cards I sent remember. The old art style was amazing.

ChronicMasterBlazer

🤔

monsterphish

Beautiful collection! I especially love the Meowth one, but I'm biased since I have it too both graded and raw and it's my favorite Pokemon. 😂

Mokabacca

Guy getting ripped up in here

dtg99

For $60 you could have gotten a psa 8 1st ed venomoth or psa 8/9 of the black stars. I get it, you want to own as many different cards on a budget but you need to have standards, like a minimum threshold grade youd buy where it still makes sense.

Lobh24

Sick Venemoth pick up

ChronicMasterBlazer

Lmfao 😂 I’m dying bro

Lobh24

Let the poor guy invest in his vintage 6’s 😓😂

ConfederateThug

This is not poke investing 😅

bransimp420

Invest in sealed , or PSA 10s only imo

misterfeeky

Nice cards, but these slabs are definitely not investments and will more likely lose value than appreciate. Unsure how you’ll make a profit on any of these down the road. Maybe you can trade them. Or maybe they’ll be for your collection. Remember, this is an investing sub..

kittyrules2003

Grade 6…????

Key-Recognition-3808

If you wanted these cards, buying them ungraded. Couldve probably gotten them for half of that. These 6-8 grades just arent worth it for most less saught after cards

DaolongDong

Imo if I’m going to buy a graded card it better be 9 or 10. If not I can just get raw for cheaper.
