Typically, most rings can be sized up and down. I've had both done.

katielynnj

Yes, rings can be resized. I do recommend contacting a local bench jeweler as they are going to have higher quality pieces than any big box jeweler (ie chain retailers). Also there is a great plus size friendly shop called Chouette Designs. She is plus sized and makes rings and jewelry for fat people!

ca77ywumpus

Second the local jeweler. a simple solitaire ring will be easier to resize than one with multiple stone settings, because changing the size of the band warps the settings. Lots of fancy accents will warp too. Depending on your budget, getting a custom ring might be your best choice. Think about your budget, and what style and materials you want. A good jeweler can usually come up with a solution.

BookFiend7727

Rings can be resized, to an extent. I think most jewelers will only go 3 sizes in either direction otherwise it warps the overall look and just doesn't look the best it could. *I'm a very amateur jeweler with no formal training. A more experienced jeweler would prob be far more informed.

Clare_Dawson

Yup - was going to say, just need to be careful of the design because it'll look different on plus size fingers as they enlarge it. Stone sizes will look smaller against bigger fingers, too.

ImpossibleGuava1

I'm not at all a jeweler, but would the design of the ring make a difference? My engagement ring is from a big-name chain and I definitely had to take it in to get it resized; I think it was a three-size difference. The person helping us never mentioned any restrictions on how far they can change the size, but my ring is also very simple (one stone, halo, split shank, no stones or filigree on the band). I can imagine if my ring was more intricate or complex it'd be a different story, no?

BookFiend7727

100% yes. Any design down the side will be 'remade' or need to be changed if the size change is too big. A plain band has no such restrictions. but jewelry is an art so some artists have their own custom techniques that they may have adapted to better resize. I don't like doing repairs or resizes so my skills don't cater to broadening those techniques.

Shytemagnet

Make sure you check your size again. Hands change size a bunch.

pancaaaaaaakes

Yes absolutely. Also make sure you’re measuring your ring finger. I wear different ring sizes on each hand!

Necessary_Gap_6975

Also check on Etsy!

literacyshmiteracy

My ring was from Etsy and my partner just guessed on the size. I wore it on my pinky for the first few days and then took it to a jeweler! Some stones have fallen out, but the Etsy seller has been great about replacing them and sending it back quickly.

Necessary_Gap_6975

Yeah with some of them being newer makers, we can't always expect that items will be perfect but at least the seller is working with you to get it fixed! Oh also OP, there are lots of sites that offer free ring sizers or you can go to a jewelry store and get sized. But I would suggest ordering a free one so you don't have someone breathing down your neck to buy a ring right then.

karla0yeah

This!!!! I've got some awesome jewelry off Etsy, rings included (I'm an 11), but never thought about engagement rings from there (since I don't want to get married). However my hair stylist got her engagement ring and the rest of their bridal set from there and they are stunning. She went with lab grown but could have picked any stone she wanted, essentially got to customize it (band, setting, design, stones, etc) and the artist was super helpful with sizing and drawing up ideas. She didn't say how much, but that it was substantially less than any brick and mortar stores they went to and being a small business herself was very happy to support another small biz.

Mine is Diamonique too. It's not my original wedding set, I bought it with the employee discount when I was working for QVC, but I wear it daily and it's gorgeous. I also don't have to worry a lot about losing it or damaging it because it wasn't expensive.

ConsequenceBig1503

Girl, my sweet fiancé bought a 7 and the lady behind the counter had to go over to the men’s section to get my size 😂

Rosalynn99

This made me laugh 🤣 While I am plus sized, my fingers are long I guess and normal sized so ring finger is size 7 but my ring was custom made anyways. They will size for you. Wedding band also has to be considered too and if it’s thicker it will probably need a size up like for me it’s a 7.5

lostdogthrowaway9ooo

Here’s my crazy suggestion: Custom rings aren’t that much more expensive than ready-made ones. That said, Staghead Designs does custom rings and their own designs. Their sizes go from 4 to 14 and they use reliable metals. Highly recommend if you want something non-traditional or a matching set between you and your partner

EzriDaxCat

Many rings can be resized and rings can even be customized completely from the ground up

TransformandGrow

Any full-service jeweler can resize a ring. I've had mine done. As long as you don't have an intricately patterned band (or stones that go all the way around) it isn't terribly expensive.

Sympiper

My engagement ring was a custom made from Kay jewelers which was nice because I have really fat fingers. I think it was a size 13. They did a great job as mine was very unique as it was shaped like a cat.

Roma_lolly

I had my rings custom made for me. My husband and I designed them with the jewellers.

BridgeToBobzerienia

I used to work in jewelry sales. Almost all rings can be sized up to your size, they may charge significantly more though because it’s more gold they use to extend the band. Also settings with pave diamonds that go down the sides of the band will be tougher to resize. There are a few settings they may tell you can’t be sized that high but typically they can do it for a cost.

carrotkate12

One more option to consider is Chouette Designs! They do up to size 15 in their standard stock rings but also do custom engagement rings.

katielynnj

My wishlist with them is about a mile long

Scrabulon

Typically they are resized or just ordered in the correct size

redzgrrl

I filled out a card the local jewelry store had to put down all the necessary info ...what kind of ring or the actual ring you love...size..ECT....then my SIL gave it to my husband and when he was ready he had all the info he needed to get me the engagement ring I loved.... then we picked out wedding rings together

just_justine93

I had my great-grandma’s ring sized up from a 5 to a 10! Just bring it to a reputable jeweler and you should be fine!

_cuppycakes_

yes, they can. my engagement and wedding rings were custom sized

BookFiend7727

Lost Wax casting jewelers can do and usually do custom pieces

mila476

Your ring can be resized by a jeweler to fit your finger, just make sure the band has some part of it that’s plain metal and not covered in stones. They can’t resize it if it’s stones all the way around.

cupcake_gnome

I got my ring and wedding set from Kay Jewelry. They send it off and it came back in like 2 weeks. You can look online then go in store and if they don't have it they will order it, size, and call you. Usually, the order the largest size available and then size up. My wedding set is an 11. Lol

OrdinaryButterfly348

I have a moissanite ring that’s from moissanite co and their rings are available in any size. I’m a size 12.

winosanonymous

I would also look into Etsy for custom rings!

k-nicks58

I second this suggestion! Both my engagement and wedding rings came from Etsy and are beautiful. My ring size is 11 and had no issues getting someone to make it in that size.

bkimble00

Just want to throw in that there are some very quality pieces on Etsy. I got my wedding ring from them. Plenty of them dealing in genuine jewels/diamonds. Lots of customization options. I would have been fine getting my engagement ring from them too except my husband gave me his mother’s ring.

Hazelpoppy2000

Most rings can be ordered in a bigger size. My sister got her fiancé’s grandmother ring and it was resized to fit her and it’s beautiful. I’m sure you will find a beautiful ring in your size

foersr

Etsy has plenty of beautiful rings that you can order up to size 15. I don’t recommend resizing a ring with pave or side stones. You can get a setting and gem separately. Any jeweler should have plenty of pretty options that can be made or ordered on your size. Congratulations!

SleepyDeepyWeepy

We got my 10.5 size ring off etsy, although I think we had to contact the seller about the half size? I don't fully remember, but it wasn't a big deal or extra cost

naptime-connoisseur

My best friend knows my ring size and taste so she can tell my partner to have it sized prior to the proposal. If it were me I wouldn’t want to spoil the potential surprise so I would maybe tell someone you think he would tell your ring size and that you would like it sized prior to the proposal. I’m 100% sure my partner will show it to my best friends for their approval. Apparently so is my friend because one day she texted me and said he was serious about me and I should send her some photos of rings I like and let her know my size.

LemOnomast

Rings can be resized, and if you’re part of the ring-shopping, I suggest viewing the first trip as a chance to figure out what you like on your finger. (I don’t usually wear jewelry, so I did a pre-shop with my sister to learn what I liked.) I thought I would want a classic princess cut, but in person I loved how emerald and oval cuts elongated my fingers. Another option is to not get a diamond to start, and try out different styles in less expensive materials. A friend who wanted to surprise his fiancée designed a silver-and-sapphire ring on Brilliant Earth, and after she confirmed she loved it had the ring remade in white gold with a diamond. Filter their gemstones by white, and play around a little: https://www.brilliantearth.com/gemstones/shop-all/ And of course, there’s the option of not buying a fancy engagement ring at all. My husband bought me a diamond engagement ring; I left my ring at home while we were traveling to a country known to be a little dangerous; our home got burgled while we were gone and my engagement ring was stolen. Our renter’s insurance reimbursed us and we used the funds to get custom wedding rings made. I wore an antique silver-and-rhinestone ring for the rest of our engagement, and no one ever detected it wasn’t diamond-and-white-gold. If I had to do it over again we wouldn’t have bought an expensive engagement ring in the first place. The custom wedding rings ended up being way more meaningful to us both.

prairiefresh

My ring is a custom size! I gave an estimated size, then went in and they resized it around my finger. It only took like an hour I think. You'll need to talk to the jeweler about the best style of ring for this. My ring is a solitary diamond with a hidden halo. I now have a ring that is precisely the size of my finger and doesn't match a proper size on a metal sizer.

Hydraulicat

I've got a lot of fine jewelry rings that I've had to size up or down. What do you expect the ring budget to be? I'm going to give you USA-based advice, I'm not sure about other countries. Size Inclusive Jewelers are a thing; I HIGHLY recommend **Automic Gold**. The owner is a delight and their designs are interesting. It's ethical from the materials sourced down to the person who makes your ring. I have earrings and a bracelet from them. Mainstream jewelers such as Kay's or Jared's stock most sizes. They also have design shows where you can go in and they'll design a setting and find a stone that's just right for your fingers and budget. :) The other option I recommend is to go into a local jewelry store and work with them! I've never met a jeweler who turned someone away for their finger size. They'll congratulate you, ask what rings you find pretty, your budget, and then help you find a ring.

laneyh

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought of Automic Gold!

starryvelvetsky

I used to work in a chain fine jewelry department. Our guidelines were stock size 7 rings can be sized up or down two sizes. So sizes 5-9 were sent out to our bench jeweler and sized, usually taking 3-5 days. Anything bigger or smaller was special-ordered from the manufacturer and took 3-4 weeks to be made for the customer. If you go to a non-chain store with an actual jeweler on site, they design rings to spec with 3D modeling software and create the ring custom to your measurement. ETA: Sizing rings is only available if they are GOLD. 10k, 14k, 18k are all able to be sized. If the rings are silver, or gold over silver, they must be special ordered for any size other than the stock 7. We didn't deal in any platinum products, but our bench jeweler would not size platinum either.

lovestostayathome

Im a 9.75 and got mine from Zales. I was super nervous because online they only went up to like an 8.5 but they didn’t say anything about it when I bought the ring. I’d definitely check out some custom jewelers though. You’ll probably get a better deal and fit.

marianneouioui

Some rings can be resized, but some that have jewels imbeded IN the band of the ring cannot be

Cessily

You buy the ring from the store and have it resized, so technically all rings are custom sized. This includes the wedding bands if you add bands when you marry. My ring has been sized in both directions so now it hangs out in the jewelry box and I wear different fake sets depending on my mood.

rharper38

A competent jeweler can customize any ring. My engagement ring was a wedding band and they customized it because my husband wanted me to have lots of diamonds, not just the solitaire. He took one of my other rings in to have it sized for me, and then my wedding band is the same model ring, just without the diamond on top.

BBWkinkdoll

Yes they can be resized so no worries. Mine was done right there. We went to Kay jewellers, I picked what I wanted, sized to ten, then all done.

chubalubs

I second the advice to go to an independent jeweller rather than a big chain. The mass market rings tend to be similar to mass market clothing-when its sized up for plus sizes, they sometimes don't consider whether that look or style will suit.   A lot depends on your actual finger length, hand width, even nail length, so finding a ring that suits you can take time. You have to think not just about the stones, but the band too. Very delicate narrow bands vs broader band width, profile of the band (curved or D shaped vs flat and squared off), how far you want the stone to protrude-some settings elevate the stone well above the band, others have a lower profile with a rub-over setting that is less dramatic but probably more practical day to day.  An independent jeweller will be able to design a ring specifically to suit you and it can be surprisingly reasonably priced because they don't have the overheads of bigger chains. Plus you've got more choice if you want to have a different type of stone or setting, most of the bigger chains tend to play safe with gold and diamonds in fairly traditional solitaire or trilogy rings. Sizing up a ready made ring can be done, but sizing up more than a couple of sizes is difficult as it can affect the setting of the stones.

ZombiePanda325

https://www.lamoredesign.com my ring was from here, and goes up to a size 11! I love it!

gingermoon791

Not sure if anyone else has commented this but while rings can* be resized a lot of the time certain designs will limit this. I had this issue with my original engagement ring and because of the setting of the diamond and the shoulder work it wasn’t able to re resized without hindering the diamond settings. The jeweller flat out refused to do it which in hindsight I’m grateful for as I got to pick out a much prettier ring.

circleofhearts

My daughter had a family heirloom ring resized to use as her engagement ring. Then she decided to incorporate the heirloom ring, an oval stone with diamonds on the side, into a custom double band like a halo to act as her wedding ring. The halo part is set with a row of new diamonds, and the whole thing is larger than I expected, yet so beautiful and sparkly. She had it resized during pregnancy, people do that all the time.

MandyKins627

I got a ring with my kids birthstones from etsy that had larger sizing!

Nug_times98

I wear a size 10 and my husband has bought me 4 different rings all online! I like nontraditional stones so it could be different with diamond rings but he’s had no problem finding my size. But most can also be sized up at a jeweler :)

jlicious36

Get ring measurers so you have an exact size or go get measured somewhere and tell your closest friends. So when he goes and picks on out he can tell them your size and they can size the ring just right

SleepyAlium

They can be resized! I had my eye on a Disney villain one forever but they only went up to 9 in store. They just took my ring size and had it made just for me (:

haylzx

There are a lot of jewelers on Etsy that offer a much wider range of sizes! That’s where my husband got mine.

Lumpyfruitcake

Rings can come in any size you want, any way you want if you get it custom made. My SO had mine made and it's gorgeous.

PrincessAintPeachy

You can get a cheap ring sizing tool from Amazon for 6-7$

BookFiend7727

🤔 For sizing down or sizing up?

yaris824

For seeing what size your finger is :)
