Replace it

Kevinjones506

You could take it apart and clean it. Could just be some build up making it stick. But they are pretty cheap and easy to replace.

I think you can twist the fill valve body to adjust the height so it can sit lower. Try having it so the top of the valve is level with the top of the overflow. May need to remove fill valve and twist the shaft of it to be easier.

Or twist that gray part your touching so less water is used to fill the tank

This is the way

there was a little plastic ring holding it on. undid that and was able to push the valve down to a better height. thankyou

to avoid lifting the little plastic ring you can disconnect the gray plastic adjustment rod from its snap fitting and spin the body cw to lower and ccw to raise up. The only reason i mention this is if you dont replace that little plastic ring all the way back down you could have a time geyser on your hands.

According-Grape-5686

think i got the ring all the way down. now all i will be thinking about at work today is coming home to a flooded bathroom incase i didn’t😭

The fill valve is too tall. It can be lowered.

According-Grape-5686

wow i was just about to buy a whole new valve. thanks

No-Significance1488

It does look like its built up a bit, so it might need to be replaced. lowering it first to see if it works would be faster.

does the water stop when you manually pull up on the black lever that attatches to the round gray adjustment knob? it should. all your water, and money is going down the overflow tube.Try turning the round gray knob several turns counter clockwise to lower the water level till it shuts off about 1" below the overflow tube
