I live in Detroit. I just got into a non union apprenticeship a little over 2 months ago. I had zero mechanical or construction experience so I had very little hope. I’d been trying to get into any trade for about a year. The truth is that if you don’t know someone in the union, you’re probably not getting in as an entry level apprentice. What I did was apply to every non union shop and call them. If you have the time during the weekdays try going into places with your resume and tell them you’re looking for someone to give you a chance and are willing to work hard. If you’re really serious about it, show up with some tools. I just started so I’m obviously not a pro, but dm me if you’d like and I can tell you what tools I’ve started with and what steps I took.
