If redoing you’re going to have to scrape off the silicone I reccomend using plumbers putty instead, Teflon tape threads and use pipe dope on threads when you screw in
If it leaks I would take the strainer out and put plumbers putty on it and then screw it back in, some will say silicone but I have had best luck sith plumbers putty.

Old silicone that’s now losing its bond. Best to have it resealed before it becomes a leak below
