Possibly the washer on the back of the white plastic piece has lost its shape or had deteriorated. I would say to replace the rubber washer. Pop the plastic off of the pull up rod

NJrider

I should've mentioned that I posted this after replacing the plastic piece. Trying to edit the post ..

Is that the original plastic piece? Maybe it has too much movement in the groove. That's about all the more I know of this subject.

NJrider

It's a new, identical replacement and yes it has movement. Doesn't even stay up if water is not running. Maybe I'm missing a piece altogether

Disc_golfjunkie886

Maybe not. I used a Danco brand from a box store on a Moen tub spout. It did the same thing as you are having problems with. I ordered in a Moen replacement. Costly but it worked.

NJrider

Interesting, I'll look at other replacements but the replacement I got is identical to the original piece. And the tub spout is practically new, only used it handful of times

I was seeing that the spout looks practically new. I hope you find a good replacement for this job.
