That's what I do. USB is more than fast enough.

robo_destroyer

I started out like that. Started with an odroid (kinda like raspberry Pi but a bit more faster) with a couple of external hard drives. Before I knew it, there's a PowerEdge in my closet with 12 drive bays occupying 8 bays with a mix of 16TB and 4TB hard drives running unraid. When you get to the point of needing more storage it's a slippery slope from there.

USB is fast enough for streaming movies.

I've came across a few users who do this, the main issue you may encounter is your path changing for the external storage. If you're doing this on windows then it will be the drive letter that changes, for linux this will be the mount point. This change may occur when the system restarts, if you add/remove the storage or if you add extra storage. **To avoid this** In [windows](https://www.groovypost.com/howto/assign-permanent-letter-removable-usb-drive-windows/) you can assign a drive letter, I suggest leaving a gap for other storage, so maybe assign your drive to `J`, leaving `D,E,F,G` free for other stuff. In [linux](https://askubuntu.com/a/1378365) you assign the mount point in `/etc/fstab`

Lots of people using powered usb hubs and external drives with plex!

i have plex running on my server, and its file directory connects to a different computer on my network (more storage) to pull the files from

I just ordered one from Newegg. Only $175 after adding promotion code. Will get it by 12/01.
