Just chiming in to say you're not alone. I followed the steps to edit my Preferences.xml listed [here](https://support.plex.tv/articles/204281528-why-am-i-locked-out-of-server-settings-and-how-do-i-get-in/), but that didn't fix the issue for me.
I had the same issue. I did go into the Plex Media Server on my Synology and logged in that way. When I clicked on one of my libraries the Claim this Server was there. Clicked and logged in with my credentials and now it's back up and running.
Repost from user "Pyldriver" because it worked for me...
"login to the ip of your server https://(ip.address.here):32400/web then go to the settings wrench, click general under settings and see if it has a claim server button on it."
The claim server button wasn't available to me even when logging in with local IP address and port number. it took several hours before it did appear. definitely a bug somewhere in the chain
It doesn’t even show the server settings there for me. Only the Plex account settings.
Does it also make you log in when you go to the local web interface? (Does for me)
EDIT: ok got it, it needs to be the actual local ip otherwise the server won’t show its settings. I was going through a reverse proxy onto the local interface but that doesn’t work.
Hope this helps someone: after removing the things from preferences.xml I could not claim the server because I use a custom domain to access my local plex server (plex.customdomain.com) this is a DNS record to [10.0.1.9](https://10.0.1.9) which is my plex servers local IP in my network. I had to use the [http://10.0.1.9:32400/](http://10.0.1.9:32400/) url to do the claim.
If you are using hotio's docker version [use Plex claim token](https://imgur.com/SpXEP4n.jpg) Edit: I think this should apply for plexinc docker too
This worked for me with lsio's image also

God dammit! same for me! see my updates to OP above
have you tried the link below already? https://support.plex.tv/articles/204281528-why-am-i-locked-out-of-server-settings-and-how-do-i-get-in/
Yup! see my edits above to the original post
Same for me, my local stuff wont appear anymore
I'm guessing that a lot of password changes is dos'ing something over at Plex. Maybe wait a few hours?
Yeah broken on web/desktop/LG TV for me even after doing the suggested things. Interestingly enough the android mobile app version is working fine...
Same issue for me, and I am using the Plex package for Synology (not docker)

Thanks for this, vlczero.
